I caught this programme while driving today

and she just came across as unpleasant, self pitying and vindictive.

And said that if the Mail fired her she'd not be worried.

Personally having listened to her - but never read one of her articles, the sooner they do, the better for the planet.

She came across as thoroughly unpleasant. At one point she said she basically nagged her husband into marrying her for a story and men deserved to be warned about that? Or did I mishear?!

yeah she did say that - don't imagine there are too many men living in fear of unscrupulous women wanting to marry them in order to steal their sperm and then write about it.

God. How self absorbed to believe that is a problem men need warning about. I think you are pretty much the only one love. Journalists is quite a small pool, even including bloggers, and I can't imagine that many of them are stealing sperm for a story.

I started off thinking she was odious but actually feel a bit sorry for her having read/heard a few more interviews with her. It seems like she kinda understands that the reasons she has nae pals is because she totally pisses everyone off by writing publically about details of their private lives, but at the same time thinks 'well it shouldn't bother them' and carries on. Even though, as she says herself, one of the people who have been really hurt by her columns is her (as they have resulted in her nae pals status). She described her behaviour as compulsive on woman's hour today and it does sound like compulsive being as it hurts her (and others) but she carries on. To be honest, she kinda reminds me of a close family relation in this regard. They knew their behaviour was destroying a relationship with someone they cared about deeply but insisted in carrying on with that behaviour over decades, as the other person 'was wrong to be hurt by it' . This is despite the fact that they described the destruction of that relationship as 'causing them a pain like grief'. Very sad.
Still, I absolutely would NOT be her friend or want to be related to her. No way!

Thanks Nancy, will pass that info on. TBH I couldn't care less - if people want to keep reading what she writes (and she seems to be very popular, albeit not universally-liked), then who am I to moan about her? My media friends seem to loathe her, but maybe that's because she's very well paid.

I found the interview quite interesting. She seems to have a very low opinion of herself, which is sad as she's very successful in her field. She also came across as somewhat damaged.

Was it her on R4 this morning? I was listening open mouthed and wondering if it was her, but had to switch off.

She sounded dreadful.

I was very surprised by her voice for some reason.....

I think she is more to be pitied than censured tbh.

as i understand it, she is pretty deaf so i think her voice might sound unusual for that reason.

I am just shocked Nina Myskow is still around - I remember some scandal about her waaaay back - pictures of her in a tabloid? A former boyfriend being incredibly rude about her?

I quite liked Marie Claire when Liz Jones was editor ( although she disn't last long) but she seems a deeply unhappy woman - her stories of countryside living were hilarious for all the wrong reasons

Liz jones. Two things:

a) This "kind to animals" nonsense. She has a shocking record as a pet owner... her 'collie husband' (ffs!) has killed sheep on at least two occaisons, she has four dogs, seventeen cats, some horses, she gallivants all over the world leaving them in other's care. The dogs and cats all have behavioural problems (by her own admission). She is currently the subject of a Press Complaints procedure because she tried to pass the buck regarding the death of a horse in her care. People who are 'kind to animals' do not treat them like toys or ornaments.
b) She's a grown woman, making a bomb out of peddling her alleged 'neuroses' and insecurities' while grabbing every chance she can to backstab anyone who has ever slightly pissed her off while wriggling out of taking any responsibility for her actions by playing the 'victim' card time and again. She also blackens the name of all women on a regular basis. Remember the 'sperm stealing' episode? Her justification: "it's what women do, I'm providing a service by telling men all this". Her claims to be "borderline anorexic" and "borderline suicidal" are frankly insulting to those who have real issues.

Liz Jones is appalling. I agree with mattyp that the 'kind to animals' stuff is nonsense and she is indeed currently the subject of a Press Complaints procedure because she tried to pass the buck re. the death of a horse in her care.

why would the PCC have any jurisdiction over Liz Jones' animals? did she blame someone for killing them? surely that would be the libel court?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo, when the retraction is published (which it surely will be) you will see for yourself. Not everyone rushes off to a No Win No Fee solicitor... some just want the truth.

You are right, she is hideous.

I can't decide who I loathe most, her or Shona Sibary. I think SS though the reader comments always make me laugh because everyone else hates her too.
