to think Liz Jones is JUST an odious person with no redeeming qualities?

I caught this programme while driving today
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01mw2d8
and she just came across as unpleasant, self pitying and vindictive.

And said that if the Mail fired her she'd not be worried.

Personally having listened to her - but never read one of her articles, the sooner they do, the better for the planet.

i did see that, matty, but i thought it honestly made the owner sound a bit bonkers so i didn't include it. haven't seen the column yet, though.

i'm no liz jones fan, i hasten to add. i just think that if you have any dealings with her, don't be at all surprised when she bangs on about you in an unflattering manner in her newspaper Because That Is What She Does.

I find the whole "martyr" thing a bit wearying, that and the "I'm in sooooooooo much debt" - mmmmmm - everyone in debt can afford Bottega Veneta and the high maintenance waxing, plucking and dyeings....

I think LJ does have huge redeeming qualities.

Number one, she's done a great deal of work on trying to change the way women are portrayed in the media - ie., trying to include women of all shapes and sizes. She is a huge advocate of plus size women and plus size women's issues (such as featuring a new plus size magazine called "Slink" in a recent article. She also (while she was editor of a woman's glossy) successfully banned ads for cosmetic surgery.

She has tried to get designers to increase their "fit" sizes to be more reasonable and has campaigned pretty hard in the face of an industry that doesn't want a bar of it. I think she's pretty great for doing that.

And she's kind to animals.

I appreciate she's like marmite to a certain extent but at least she's honest and she's an advocate for real women.

No, no, no, no, no... she is not a feminist, she actively tries to denigrate women. When she is confronted with some of her more extreme behaviour (stealing her boyfriend's sperm, for instance) she defends herself by saying "it's what women do". She tars all women with her own madness. She has claimed various reasons for why she was sacked from Marie Claire: trying to get ads for cosmetic surgery banned (she subsequently had cosmetic surgery), for publishing a list of the freebies she'd received (which she still does) or was it for referring to a model as a bag of bones (strange words from a "borderline anorexic". She whines piteously about how she is discriminated against when traveling because she is single... millions of women travel on their own whether they are in a relationship or not, for work or pleasure, and don't seem to have the problems she has. She reaps as she sows: she is appallingly rude to service staff and wonders why she is treated 'differently'. The only mantra she has to fall back on is 'poor me, everybody hates me'. She despises women with children and/or who are married and/or successful... they throw in to sharp relief how shallow and empty her life is. Writing poisonous clap-trap may be "what she does", but you know what happens to those who live by the sword.

She's such a great advocate for women - just ask Holly Willoughby!
And she's not kind to animals, she's like a 7-year old with them. People who genuinely care for animals do things like, oh I don't know, make sure they don't have fleas? Train them? remain with them rather than fobbing them off on her poor "friend" Nic? (oh sorry, groom, she has no friends) These animals she professes to care about "stress wee", we hear about "squirty bot bots on the kitchen table", she refers to her horses' hooves as "paws" and her dogs are untrained (they kill sheep and can't be left off the lead or harness). I take it back, even a 7-year old would probably have more respect for the creatures and allow them some dignity.
Oh and what has happened to the bat sanctuary of late? Or is that part of the same work of fiction as her RS "boyfriend"?!
Odious woman!!!

She hates mothers, children, sahps, meat eaters, indeed anyone who is happy.
She writes bout her own family in such an offhand, careless way....it's very :(

Well done MattyP (if you're right that is)

No outing!

I think LJ genuinely believes she is a feminist. She has done well to address the issue of skinny models, airbrushing in the media etc. Unfortunately she does come across as not liking other women. Although, in fairness, she doesn't like men or kids either!

Vagabond, she's told her followers that women are basically sperm stealers, she said that she married her ex for material and that's what women do. Is that being a woman's advocate? Hmm
And we've already covered 'kind to animals'!

Liz certainly does not like women, kids or any body for that matter.
I dont buy this " I have such low self esteem " rubbish. All experts in Mental health issues would tell you that a person who genuinely has low self esteem, does not realise it, they truly think that they are awful...conversely they usually a narcissistic or border-line sociopaths who rather like the thought of portraying themselves as girlie, vulnerable and lacking in confidence.
Not me saying that, it is an established fact !!!
Liz is more than likely too self obsessed, were she to stop trying to find reasons for her supposed unhappiness, she may find some peace.
It is very difficult to read her self pitying claptrap without thinking of all the people who have huge problems and grief.
Get a grip Liz.

I don't think she likes animals really she's just caught on to the fact that they can't tell her to fuck off. Like the rest of the universe has.

The "I married my husband" for material stance is surely self preservation? I remember when she first write about their relationship (was she still at MC?) and it was like a car crash waiting to happen.

She had had several failed relationships and was desperate to settle down and she ended up with that man who tested her appallingly. It was a tally very painful to read about. Certainly if she'd posted on MN at the time he would have been roundly criticized as abusive.

I think she is an extremely damaged individual.

OK, Nancy66, you're in a position to agree with LJ's work and I am sure you have seen tomorrow's You 'diary' (to paraphrase for those who haven't it's this: "My sister is in intensive care, but enough about her, did I tell you I owe lots of money and it's not my fault. Did I?!".
Yet another diary using personal, intimate family tragedy. I bet her sisters are delighted she broadcasts family correspondence to earn money which she then spends on cosmetics and boots, and other necessities.
I would be interested to read your views?

SarahBellum - I agree she is very damaged, though sadly completely lacking in self-awareness. I find it hard to read her stuff these days especially as most of it seems to be unconvincing fantasy - it makes me cringe with embarrassment that a woman in her 50's invents a rock-star boyfriend - at least her dreadful husband was real.

(Oh and BTW - everything mattyp said!)

I will be interesting to hear from you Nancy66, I have seen tomorrows copy ( it is out in N Ireland ) surely this must be indefensible !!
Those of you going to the convention at which Liz will speak/rant/bemoan her lot please ask her when she will ever feel brave enough to prove and justify herself, please ask her from me, if she gives a proportion of her salary to the family and friends she has disparaged and betrayed and who have given her the copy she needs week by week.

LIZ JONES IS not worth the money - at all, there are millions of better writers out there she harldy appeal to anyone for goodness sake.

i know there are writers we love to hate but we just hate her generally she is boring and stupid adn to me so shallow - i am sure she thinks she does love animals- but what is her perception of love for goodness sake.

she is one very very very lucky lady....

i dont know if anyone else finds it odd how nancy 66 always pops up on liz jones threads to deny nasty things liz has said or done.

perhaps she has something to add because she's actually MET her?

and what other columnist gets this kind of social media coverage? you talking about how much you hate her is precisely what makes her worth the money.

I don't work for the Mail on Sunday or You mag so I don't see that column in advance.

I think she does (financially) support some members of her family.

I actually don't think her You column is her best work. It's turned into a caricature of itself and I think it ran out of steam a good year ago.

eliza -I don't think 'boring' is a label that can ever be pinned on her. The media is an incredibly ruthless business, people are axed on a whim. Believe me if she didn't get the letters, the emails, the clicks on the website, she wouldn't still be doing it.

I feel very sorry.

She has to portray herself as such an unlikeable person inorder to make a living.

It can't be good for her mental health, even if it is good for her bank balance.

I can't believe she (or the editor) cannot see the hypocrisy of her "I'm so broke" bleatings after she wrote about spending £600 on Chanel makeup last week!
