I caught this programme while driving today
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01mw2d8
and she just came across as unpleasant, self pitying and vindictive.

And said that if the Mail fired her she'd not be worried.

Personally having listened to her - but never read one of her articles, the sooner they do, the better for the planet.

I don't know this well. I've heard it mentioned on here but nowhere else.

It seems unlikely to me since

  1. it relates to something that happened years ago and the PCC will only consider complaints about articles that appeared within certain time frame

  2. i've been reading about this supposed complaint for the best part of a year and yet the PCC adjudicate on complaints within 4-5 weeks.

Viviennemary · 26/09/2012 11:18

She's a very clever person who has invented a persona for her journalism and made money from it.

dysfunctionalme · 26/09/2012 11:19

Viviennemary generous thought but nope, she's just a cow

itsjustmeanon · 26/09/2012 11:27

I think she just likes to be controversial, it's her persona, and she earns a lot of money from it. She is quick to say what her faults are, and is nice to animals. I don't dislike her.

Viviennemary · 26/09/2012 11:38

I wasn't really being generous when I said I thought she was clever. Grin I meant clever in a way that she knows what people will want to read and subjects that will stir up controversy and get people talking about her. Ooooh guess what Liz Jones has written now. How awful!! How could she!! Whether or not these are her true thoughts I don't know.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 26/09/2012 11:55

if you search liz jones and pcc, a thread on here comes up where someone complains that they know a person who gave/lent LJ a horse and it died, and then LJ recounted the story of the death without being wholly accurate about the circumstances.

i should imagine the PCC would have taken the line that it's what a person should expect if they give a horse to a columnist who specialises in a fictionalised account of her life. are you sure they haven't ruled already?

BeetrootJuice · 26/09/2012 11:59

AitchTwoOhOneTwo

Quite sure. The complaint is very much ongoing.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 26/09/2012 11:59

can't see anything on the PCC website either... although they may only show resolved cases.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 26/09/2012 12:01

what's with teh 'no win no fee' solicitor jibe, by the way? is anyone who is libelled and tries to sort it through the courts some sort of ambulance-chaser? surely they also only want the truth?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 26/09/2012 12:06

forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1527300&page=116

oh, it looks like the owner said she was going to a solicitor as well...

madonnawhore · 26/09/2012 12:12

I think Liz Jones is mentally ill and the Daily Mail, true to type, exploits that for financial gain.

I find it hard to hate her because she just seems so desperately unhappy. And because being desperately unhappy and mentally ill is her only source of income, she has no incentive to seek help.

mattyp · 26/09/2012 13:46

So you will have seen this:

^"Despite you assuring me that Nellie would be kept alone, she was put in with other horses who ran her ragged, despite this, you kept her in with the ponies, one of which bullied her quite badly. You and your vet subjected her to many unnecessary invasive treatments.

You NEVER had to purchase feed for her, despite your lies to the contrary. Every time I visited I brought more than enough....that goes for the bute and riaflex she was having, I brought DOUBLE the amount that she needed. But you've conveniently forgotten that too.

I offered to bring a trailer load of the bedding I was using for her but you told me NOT TO and that you wanted her on straw. I offered to pay for livery & you said not to worry, she'd keep Dream company because Dream had to come in during the summer months because of her laminitus.

2 £40 plants in 2 £50 pots are NOT tiny....not all of us can shop at Harrods garden center sweetie. Neither is my leaving over £2000 worth of rugs and equipment for you to use with your horses. If you're that skint, ebay them.

Also why on earth did a healthy horse arrive at your yard only to be dead less than 4 months later? She was in full work and as fit as a flea. You were going to ride her because you were scared of your own horse which is the only reason you had her saddle in the first place. Yes that saddle that when I picked it up was green with mould.
Whilst I'm grateful that you provided a "perfect" home for her, you ignored her needs and the perfect home was far from such. I blame YOU 100% for her death.

And finally;
Not once did you ask if I minded if you wrote all about my horse and her subsequent death in your column, I read about how she was put to sleep in a bloody rag of a newspaper."^

Nancy66 · 26/09/2012 13:56

I'm not saying there isn't a complaint - I'm just doubtful that it's the subject of a 15 months long PCC investigation

OhSiena · 26/09/2012 14:10

MattyP that post doesn't make Liz Jones sound like the mad one...

fitgirl26 · 26/09/2012 14:22

It's not been fifteen months-the comments made about Nellie were in a recent Diary.....And how is mattyp's post mad- he has just copied the statement made by Nellie's owner in response to Liz plastering nasty details about the death of her horse all over a national press column!

Nancy66 · 26/09/2012 14:30

the horse died over a year ago from what i can see

Levantine · 26/09/2012 14:34

I'm no great fan, but I don't think she is particularly mad - just does a job and gets paid a lot of money for it. Who knows what she is really like

fitgirl26 · 26/09/2012 14:34

Yes- her complaint is about what Liz Jones RECENTLY WROTE about the horse dying. That's why she has gone to the PCC!!!

fitgirl26 · 26/09/2012 14:39

If you read the Digital Spy link Nancy66 you will see that the column concerned was written in July 2012. It doesn't matter when the horse actually died- it does matter that she lied about it in that column and was particularly nasty to Nellie's owner in a national newspaper so said owner's only recourse is through the PCC. No idea where you are getting this "15 months" from.

Nancy66 · 26/09/2012 15:10

ok, I assumed the complaint related to the columns, last year, detailing the horses death.

Still can't see it's a PCC matter though given that the woman has never been named, photographed or identified in any way

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 26/09/2012 17:20

I can't stand her. MIL lent me her book, before I knew who she was. She was gushing all over the place about it. I thought it was disgusting. Firstly for the way she talks about her ex husband, and secondly for the whole animal lover thing! She doesn't love animals, she is an obsessive collector. Her dog killed a sheep, she just left it lying there!
The fact that people read her drivel, is very sad.

cyrilpeacock · 26/09/2012 17:25

Nancy66, you seem extra ordinarily keen to defend Liz, the reason the DM might sack her is because she is an untruthful, hurtful person , who recently is given to re-hashing old copy or little bits of sex and the city etc.
The situation relating to Jacqueline ireland is true, ongoing and is a disgrace.
I do not believe Liz loves animals, her rescue animals are incontinent, cannot walk on or off a lead and are given to jumping on tables ( her words ) as one who rescues many animals, it is not loving to allow them to behave like that, please ask any rescue centre to verify my opinion.

cyrilpeacock · 26/09/2012 17:28

Also Nancy66. it is apparent from all the comments on the MOS page, that the majority of the readers can not stand her and wish for a writer with at least some talent.
Jacqueline Ireland has been named and is quite willing to confirm all these facts.

Nancy66 · 26/09/2012 17:31

It's perfectly possible that her You magazine diary might be dropped at some point since it has run out of steam, but the idea that she'll be sacked from the entire group is nonsense.

She won't be. She's worth the money.

Nancy66 · 26/09/2012 17:32

it doesn't matter whether people like her - it matters whether people read her. And they do.
