Seriously why would you want to be treated worse than men?

Nope! It's based on what you say and how you say it.

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/09/2012 21:48

Bored now.
All the FWR are coming on and taking over as usual

florencejon · 17/09/2012 21:48

handbagCrab - It is illegal to be sexually harassed, raped and discriminated against in the workplace. We do not have to tolerate this and have the law on our side.

Being expected to do wife work, look and act feminine and expected to do childcare; these are lifestyle issues. I think it is our personal responsibility, as women, to show that we are not obligated accept these expectations, should we not wish to.

Mmmm. Well you shouldn't assume really.

messyisthenewtidy · 17/09/2012 21:50

She was with her husband. Who was he with?

But anyhow, both are awful invasions of privacy. The point is, though, women's bodies are more sensationalised than men's in the media. More targeted by ads, more displayed, more regulated.

messyisthenewtidy · 17/09/2012 21:52

"Bored now.

"

What a nasty thing to say.

doorbellringer · 17/09/2012 21:55

Eh because I am a bit scared of radical feminists. I have my beliefs but am too scared to express them on here for fear of being bashed on here for being extreme enough.

florencejon · 17/09/2012 21:55

Kim - Many, many, many women read the Daily Mail sidebar. Women hunger after celebrity gossip. Where there is a hit on the website, there is money. Pictures of the Royals semi naked bring in mega buck$$$$$$$$$$$. It's all about the money and the very women that are condemning the invasion of privacy to Kate Middleton are the ones that are fueling the demand.

If you really feel strongly about the invasion of privacy, show your disgust by refusing to search or look at the pictures. We have the power to make those pictures worthless.

doorbellringer · 17/09/2012 21:55

for not bring extreme enough

SigmundFraude · 17/09/2012 21:57

What difference did it make that William was there? Confused The pictures were taken by a woman too, which is a whole other debate.

I'll agree there is more female than male flesh on show, but that tide is definitely turning. Flesh of either sex doesn't particularly bother me.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 17/09/2012 21:57

doorbell - I am sure no one will jump on you. Feel free to post your views. And most women on this thread are not radical feminists. I might be the only one?

OP posts:
SigmundFraude · 17/09/2012 21:58

The pictures taken of Kate, that is. Actually, weren't the ones of Harry taken by a woman too?

SigmundFraude · 17/09/2012 21:59

Eats, you are far too reasonable to be a radical feminist. Maybe you're just one notch below radical?

messyisthenewtidy · 17/09/2012 22:02

Florence, absolutely, lots of women are responsible for creating the demand for those pictures and lots of women are guilty of body snarking. Because women too have been brought up in a society where women's bodies are considered fair game.

The fact of women doing to other women doesn't negate the need to stop it though does it?

Anyways, I'm off to bed now. This thread has been really interesting, informative and well, pretty friendly!! So thanks to Eats for starting it Smile Sleep well everyone.

gordyslovesheep · 17/09/2012 22:04

yanbu - equality, fairness, respect - who wouldn't want that?

messyisthenewtidy · 17/09/2012 22:05

Grin @ Sigmund - OneNotchBelowRadical - I'm loving that as a username!

Right I'm really off to bed now!

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 17/09/2012 22:06

Sigmund - I can assure you, I am a radical feminist. And one of the more extreme ones as well.

Night Messy.

Most of the scary (nyac) etc rad fems seem to have vanished after a big barney 3 or so months ago. Apart from the belief in abortion to term I usually agree with most of the feminists in the section. It is nicer now but a bit boring. I went on to be outraged, a bit like reading the daily mail--

blackcats73 · 17/09/2012 22:08

Ahhh. Cant strike through properly!!!!!

florencejon · 17/09/2012 22:08

If women are doing lots of body snarking to other women, then that is not a feminist issue. A female issue, yet, but not a feminist issue. An ageist issue possibly, a sizeist issue also possible, a racist issue also possible, but not a feminist issue.

Good night Messy. I've enjoyed the debate too.

Empusa · 17/09/2012 22:08

"yanbu - equality, fairness, respect - who wouldn't want that?"

Feminism doesn't have the monopoly on those things

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 17/09/2012 22:09

I loved NYAC's posts and agree with what she says. But she was massively bullied on mumsnet

OP posts:
handbagCrab · 17/09/2012 22:12

I'm very tired, it has been interesting! Nice to chat without someone carping about evil rad fems bullying the whole of mumsnet every third post :)
