...to change the bedding once a week?

Do you think that's adequate? New partner says his ExDW changed it every 2-3 days. Now as far as I know they weren't bonking like mad (or so he told me!) so I don't see the need for that frequency! He's started staying over at mines on weekends, usually a Saturday but this week he stayed on Friday so the same sheets were on since the previous Sat iyswim. Also, we hadn't had sex in the bed the last time he was here (tmi?). I would normally change them on a Saturday morning as I work full time mon-fri. I'm actually feeling a bit Hmm about him comparing my cleanliness to ExDW as she didn't work. Anyway, I'm ranting. How often do you change your sheets?

i have no idea perhaps once every 2-3 weeks or longer - when dh says he is itchy Grin

SecondRow · 10/09/2012 20:23

What Ephiny said! By mentioning what his ex used to do, he seems to be implying that it's not what he actually does, otherwise why not just say directly "oh I change mine every two days". So does he think women are meant to be cleaner than men? Or has he in fact kept up his ex's habits?

Play, have you been to his place or does he only ever come to yours? Any idea what the rest of his domestic standards are like?

Numberlock · 10/09/2012 20:24

Mmm he sounds like a real catch! Is he satisfied with how often you clean your oven, fridge, windows, how crispy your roast potatoes are etc? And he's comparing your performance in bed to his ex, isn't he, even if it's just in his head.

noyouhavehadawee · 10/09/2012 20:24

he bathes before bed and on a morning in case you think were dirty b;s and we rarely shag.

chandellina · 10/09/2012 20:24

Margeryk, I do change the pillowcases more often sometimes. They dry quicker than the rest of the bedding so can usually go back on the same day.

BadgersRetreat · 10/09/2012 20:26

dirty cow gordy!! Missing a hypen are you?? Grin

weekly here - sometimes fortnightly if we go away for the weekend

I only iron bedding when selling the house!

pigsinmud · 10/09/2012 20:26

Blimey 3 times a week some of you say, well one. Bloody hell. Your water bill must be huge!

iknowwho · 10/09/2012 20:33

Your water bill must be huge!

I am one who washes 3 x a week and my water bill would be the same if I washed 3 x a year or 3x a day!!! Grin

I put it on an economical wash twice a week and a 'full cycle' once a week and it goes out on the line most of the time.

Like I said it's not a big deal.

Those who said they only do it once every 3 weeks have made my skin itch!!!

IawnCont · 10/09/2012 20:36

We do once every 2 weeks ish, however I recently started to do it once a week. My electricity and water bills have increased a lot, so I think I'll go back to a fortnight.
BTW, if he just said it in a jokey way, I really would reply in a jokey way, "your ex-wife changed the sheets more often than me? Well! My ex husband had a larger penis than you!"

mrsconfuseddotcom · 10/09/2012 20:41

Once a week here.

Laughing at nomoreminibreaks comment.

snigger · 10/09/2012 20:41

Sunday morning every week, start the week smelling of lavender and the great outdoors!

Twice a week in summer if it's humid/sticky (chance'd be a fine thing)

BadRoly · 10/09/2012 20:43

Hahaha once a week inadequate?! Blimey. Fortnightly would be good going here but monthly is probably more truthful Blush

justtryingtodomybest · 10/09/2012 20:52

I change mine once a week - and use lovely Sleep Sensations fabric conditioner just for them. I also iron them - you can't beat a beautifully made bed. But I realise I do really need to get a life.

pinkyp · 10/09/2012 20:53

Every 2 weeks unless needed Blush

hugoagogo · 10/09/2012 21:02

I am also wondering how often he changes his own sheets?

WhereYouLeftIt · 10/09/2012 21:03

playdotcom - how often does HE change HIS sheets? Has he volunteered that little nugget of information?

Once a week here unless anyone is really smelly and yeah, bin him. You know you were wondering if you or his ex are the freak? Nope. It's him.

Imsosorryalan · 10/09/2012 21:19

When I see the yellow on DHs sideBlush

OhDearNigel · 10/09/2012 21:22

Unless you want to become Mrs de Winter I should nip this "my exDW did this, that and the other" in the bud

Redbindy · 10/09/2012 21:27

Only change them when we start to itch.

echt · 10/09/2012 21:31

Jackie Kennedy had her staff change the bedlinen twice daily while at the White House.

The clue is "staff".

Agree OP's new partner is behaving like a colossal arse and is in dire need of an attitude adjustment.

Bluestocking · 10/09/2012 21:31

Ours every four or five days; DS's once a week. And I iron pillow cases. It's therapeutic.

WhereYouLeftIt · 10/09/2012 21:35

Once upon a time all my bedding was removed, washed, ironed and replaced every Tuesday evening, within two hours. And then I got a washing machine of my very own life.

Nowadays, I aim to change the sheets fortnightly; I tend to air the bed daily rather than make it in the morning, so feel that keeps the sheets fresher. The duvet cover will last a bit longer, as it is protected by the top sheet.

"Now who irons their bedding???"

But I like it to look lovely, even if only until the first sleep!

"I've heard some people buy double the number of pillowcases to match the covers."
I do this. Pillowcases have a far harder life than duvet covers IMO. I found that the pillowcases used to wear out faster than the duvet covers, and was bereft when the pillowcases on my favourite bedset ripped, and the duvet just didn't look right with non-matching pillowcases. (God I sound sad even to myself.)

"I send mine to the laundry so they come back all fresh and ironed and starchy "

Gymbob · 10/09/2012 21:58

Did someone say once every 2 or 3 months earlier? Foul. Tried to change it to once a fortnight once, but it didn't last long, so we are a once a week house.

What about all the dead skin in the less often than fortnightly MN'ers? They must have bed bugs the size of bluebottles Shock
