...to change the bedding once a week?

Do you think that's adequate? New partner says his ExDW changed it every 2-3 days. Now as far as I know they weren't bonking like mad (or so he told me!) so I don't see the need for that frequency! He's started staying over at mines on weekends, usually a Saturday but this week he stayed on Friday so the same sheets were on since the previous Sat iyswim. Also, we hadn't had sex in the bed the last time he was here (tmi?). I would normally change them on a Saturday morning as I work full time mon-fri. I'm actually feeling a bit Hmm about him comparing my cleanliness to ExDW as she didn't work. Anyway, I'm ranting. How often do you change your sheets?

I had a friend at Uni who NEVER changed his duvet cover. Not once. It was a 6 year course.

Don't change your sheets, OP, change your bf.

snigger · 10/09/2012 22:07

This is about to be a TMI post -

do the people who change their bedding less than fortnightly sleep in fresh pj's all the time?

I sleep nude/dressed 50-50 dependant upon how much domestic mayhem I have to correct after bathtime mood but to be honest by day 6 I'm starting to feel like the bed is a bit grungy - I really can't get my head around anything more than a week between changes.

Obviously, a week is a completely arbitrary figure, technically I suppose we should change bed linen as often as we change clothes, based on the time we spend in it.

Have to admit, it's one of life's little pleasures, a shower, then slipping into a crisp fresh bed.

whois · 10/09/2012 22:42

I would LIKE to change them once per week if I didn't have a job.
I AIM to change them every fortnight.
The last change last night was after 3 weeks tho Blush

When we get a cleaner sorted I'm looking forward to clean sheets every week Grin

iknowwho · 10/09/2012 22:48

I don't get why having a full time job stops you changing your sheets.
Confused

LibrariansMakeNovelLovers · 10/09/2012 22:51

YANBU - fortnightly here. Sometimes longer in winter if I'm not going to be able to get stuff dry.

TraineeBabyCatcher · 10/09/2012 22:59

Once a week it is washed, line dryed and ironed

shesariver · 10/09/2012 23:03

No idea, probably when they get too rank to sleep on anymore.

McHappyPants2012 · 10/09/2012 23:03

When I can but no longer than 3 weeks

AdoraBell · 10/09/2012 23:08

I aim to do them weekly, doesn't always happen though.

With regards to being compared to the ex wife, my OH did it once. something about cooking and how fantastic she is. I asked him why he is no longer married to her, if she's sooooooo fantastic that he feels the need to compare me with her. Only had to pull him up the once.

StuntGirl · 11/09/2012 01:41

Weekly. I wouldn't be happy about the comparisons Hmm

limitedperiodonly · 11/09/2012 08:34

I love these threads.

I'm not revealing my own laundry habits.

imnotmymum · 11/09/2012 08:38

well if exw so bloody marvellous I would suggest that he goes back into her bed.
However I change bottom sheet at least daily and top pillow cases and duvet cover 2/3 days. Kids twice a week.

Fairylea · 11/09/2012 08:39

Weekly but I don't have a set day for it just whenever it fits in!

Op I think you have more problems than your bed linen issues if your dp is comparing you to his ex! I'd put the clean sheets outside the front of the house and suggest he sleeps elsewhere!! :)

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs · 11/09/2012 08:46

My ex used to compare my housework skills to both his ex wife and his mother, use to drive me up the wall. Here's me with two young children and disabled, trying to keep up, and him expecting dinner on the table and absolute perfection in the house. I have pretty high standards btw, but his were just impossible to reach. It really was one of the reasons I broke it off.

nellyjelly · 11/09/2012 08:47

I would do it weekly if I could be arsed. Fortnightly is probably what I manage. I hate the smell of dirty sheets though.

EmmaNemms · 11/09/2012 09:21

Every Friday. I iron duvet covers and pillow cases but not sheets as they're fitted and that's just too complicated.

halcyondays · 11/09/2012 09:59

I aim for fortnightly, but rarely manage it Blush Obviously they would be changed straight away if someone was sick or something. I had to change mine a lot more after giving birth as I sweated like a pig.

I might do it more often but I find changing bed linen one of the worst chores, especially battling with duvet covers.

OhTheConfusion · 11/09/2012 10:00

Once a fortnight here. I do the DC's one week and ours the next. I change DD's cot bedding every week.

More if anyone is unwell, sweaty etc.

halcyondays · 11/09/2012 10:00

Weekly or fortnightly is normal imo, changing them every 2-3 days us a bit excessive and not very environmentally friendly.

PeshwariNaan · 11/09/2012 10:01

I change it less often than that...

Once a week sounds fine to me. 2-3 days is a bit... obsessive.

cocolepew · 11/09/2012 10:07

I do ours once a week, but that's only because the dog sleeps on top on it's always hairy. DDs get done about every 3 weeks.

LurcioLovesFrankie · 11/09/2012 10:30

Show him where the washing machine is and leave him to it.

susiedaisy · 11/09/2012 10:35

Around once every ten days to a fortnight, it's just me, no nookySad and definately no bloody ironing of bedding!!

Icelollycraving · 11/09/2012 10:38

Weekly for sheets & pillowcases, every 2 weeks for duvet.
Ds when it needs it,maybe twice a week.

picnicbasketcase · 11/09/2012 10:41

I try to do them once a week but if I've been too disorganised and have loads of other washing it might be more like once a fortnight. Definitely no ironing though, that's just loopy.
