For his disablist comments? I would like to anyone who shares my anger to post. His a ridiculous person and a crap comedian. I'm sure I must have missed a thread about him already... But can't find one...

There is nothing wrong with good natured ribbing. The paralympians themselves have said that they make a lot of mocking jokes towards each other, but, it is done in the spirit of friendship. I do not get offended when people make a 'blonde' joke or some crack about my job (I am a teacher). However, Frankie Boyle is aggressive, sneering and insulting. He has become increasingly nasty as his career has progressed and moved from edgy to down right insulting. The comments he made about Harvey Price were enough for me not to give him the time of day. You can not attack an innocent child just because his mum is a public figure who isn't very popular. I googled his twitter comments because I was interested in what was causing such an uproar and I thought they were poor taste, although not as bad as the arsehole who tweeted jokes about Gary Barlow's still born baby daughter directly into his timeline the day after the news broke.

I loathe with a passion.

His only redeeming feature is that he doesn't pretend to be something he isn't.

Unlike Ricky Gervase, who is just as bad, but hides it behind the nicey-nicey smiles and I'm just a cuddly puppy routine.

'I can confirm I am definately not a cunt'

I don't think you get to be the judge of how other people see you, toucan, it's a matter of opinion.

oh yes, what Woffling said

Can you come up with a justification for laughing at disablist jokes, Toucan, that doesn't make you a cunt? It's rather like someone laughing at Bernard Manning and then claiming not to be racist.

So what. Many people find lefty comedians like Marcus Brigstocke offensive"

Seriously? Do they? What's he said that anyone could find personally offensive?

seeker it's all those bellringer jokes innit

I do find his corduroys a bit offensive........

I think he's funny and some of his jokes are very clever. DH and I have seen him live several times over the years.

He may joke about paralympics etc. but I don't think for one second he is disablist. The joke about Harvey was 100% aimed at Jordan for the media whoring she does to her kids. Though it wasn't funny it had the desired effect.

Some people like him, going by the sold out tours and other folk think he's a wanker, it's all okay.

Dappyhays: so how do you justify his sketch about children with Down Syndrome if he's not disablist?

Report
seeker · 09/09/2012 09:25

So do you think that so long as it's funny, it doesn't matter who or what group is the target of a joke, dappy hays?

Report
DappyHays · 09/09/2012 09:25

Oh and he doesn't have a contract with Ch 4 for them not to renew and left wasn't sacked from Mock the Week.

Sinister
I don't blame the rise in abuse against disabled people solely on Boyle, but he and others like him make it more socially acceptable to make these jokes. I think that this, combined with the welfare cheats rhetoric is damaging.

toucan
How can you find his jokes about rape funny and then overlook them to enjoy his other comments? I am seriously at a loss here.

The difference between FB and a good comedian is that when you listen to the latter you don't feel bad about laughing.

oh, and to agree with FB that Addlington looks like a dolphin - I am afraid that I am going with Pagwatch's definition of a cunt on this one.

seeker, I'm not saying I find absolutely all of his jokes funny. I don't think he targets the disabled though.

Jimmy Carr has much more offensive jokes than FB I think, but because he's smartly dressed with a naice accent they seem to fall under the radar.

I used to belong to a group of disabled/able bodies waterski-ers a few years back where the ratio was 50/50 (this was in Oz and the group got some funding for being inclusive, I think...any they were great times) The people who had the disabilities had some of the sickest jokes about each other imaginable, Frankie would probably blush at them.

seeker · 09/09/2012 09:34

But that's the point. Of course some people with disabilities make jokes about themselves. So do other minority groups. That does not mean that anyone else has a right to.

And if he makes offensive jokes about disabled people, then he iis targeting disabled people.

As does Ricky Gervaise. Does Jimmy Carr? I haven't heard him doing it, but I may have missed it.

YANBU - I have actually been to see him (I went with friends as they had spare tickets), not knowing who he was. I was so shocked at the topics he chose to have a laugh at - people with cancer FF. What a sick F!

You'd need to see Jimmy Carr live seeker. It is a very toned down JC on 8 out of 10 Cats.

seeker, it is alright with a man with one leg to make a joke about his blind mate? But if he has 2 legs, he's a cunt?

Dappy
I think it very much depends on the people involved in making the jokes.

Of course those who have impairments are going to tell jokes, even ones very close to the bone. They may also be fine with close friends telling similar jokes, if they enjoy that kind of humour and have a close relationship.

There is a huge difference between that and a person who has no connection with the person making a joke that pokes fun at his impairment and invites others to laugh at that person.

Moominsarescary · 09/09/2012 09:43

So because you think it was aimed at the mother it's ok for him to say such disgusting things about a child?

Why anyone would want to watch him after that I don't know

Report
BeanieStats · 09/09/2012 09:46

Not a fan myself, too depressingly offensive. Enjoyed him on mock the week but a whole show is to just to wearing to enjoy.

But having said that, I'd rather have 24x7 Boyle on every channel than have the "Mumsnet Massive" dictate what is and isn't acceptable comedy.

Just think of how upsetting it must have been for that woman to get up and walk out with the whole audience laughing at children like her daughter. Anyone who can laugh at children with Down syndrome is a cunt.

Hands up, I confess, I saw that routine and saw no harm in it. They were jokes, that's all.

Report
Lolwhut · 09/09/2012 09:51

They were making lots of funny jokes about the paralympics and the paralympicans on Mock the Week, there were a few cringeworthy jokes but they weren't nasty or malicious. I don't think jokes about people with disabilities are off limits, although jokes mocking children with disabilities such as Katie Prices DS should definitly be off limits.

Report
DappyHays · 09/09/2012 09:52

Katie Price/Jordan is a bigger cunt than Frankie Boyle, I like to think.
