To want to stand in the middle of the shops and scream 'stop fucking staring at him'

I won't. I've just had enough. DS has ASD. He has a regression at 3.5 he lost all his skills. He's now losing skills again at a rapid pace. I'm worried sick.

In McDonald's today after riding lesson he was making his autistic noises and two teenage girls were staring at him, pointing and laughing . I know they're just kids but it hurt. I opted for a hard state but they just laughed more so I ignored them.

Then on the way home I nipped into the corner shop, where all the shop assistants know us, he's usually fine there but now in the midst of another fucking horrible regression he can't seem to handle it there at all. He was shrieking and pulled a tin off the shelf and I was holding his hands in the queue to stop him (we had run out of milk I had no choice but to go) and some older woman was staring at him and shaking her head.

I wanted to shout at her 'what the actual fuck do you want me to do? He doesn't understand words, doesn't feel pain, I'm trying my hardest!'

I opted for standing in the queu and breaking down in tears.

Luckily the shop assistants came over and said I should ignore them not let people like that bother me etc etc.

I feel like i am now at breaking point and I had better not even leave the house because I just want to shout at them all to get on with it and leaVe us alone. Which will only make them think I'm someone who can't even control myself.

Just leave me alone.

Sil perhaps you could wear a t shirt advertising the fact that you don't seem to grasp what is acceptable wrt to invisible disabilities then I and other carers could identify you and point and grin inanely at you to make you feel better.

DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 22:41

Piglet when is it on? I watched one on bbc 4 last Thursday

Silibilimili · 19/08/2012 22:42

Dozy, you can smoke too if you like. Grin.

I can now understand better re. The not being friendly back comment I made. (specially after reading about the poster with the appointment and several kids).

I feel that if I ignore and not smile, then I am being rude. I guess not.

DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 22:44

Not unless you've smiled at everyone rose in the shop as well sil. Grin

DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 22:45

Everyone else! Not rose! Sleeeep DS I'm losing my ability to proof read! Melatonin my tired arse! Sad

How many mgs is your Ds on dozy?

DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 22:47

6 mgs but not sure of the strength. It used to work before his massive growth spurt!

OP posts:
insanityscratching · 19/08/2012 22:48

Ds thinks melatonin is for wimps and vallerghan had him swinging from the ceiling for three days I've given up now and don't expect him asleep before 3am and sadly I'm rarely disappointed.

DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 22:50

What time does he wake insanity?

OP posts:
Claire2009 · 19/08/2012 22:51

Ds is on 6mgs also. It gets him to sleep in 20-30mins instead of 3-4hrs but he is on a high the next day so it definitely has its pros & cons

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 19/08/2012 22:52

'dont be fooled by the small stature and seemingly placid appearance' gene

It looks like I am placid. It's really 'I don't give a fuck until you force me to'

Not proud of it. I am quite nice really. Just seem to have become slightly nihilistic

Claire2009 · 19/08/2012 22:52

Oh & just because he falls asleep doesn't mean he stays asleep... up twice night re-settling him...

insanityscratching · 19/08/2012 22:54

Well when at school he's up at half six now there's no school he'll sometimes sleep until 8 but equally he sometimes doesn't bother sleeping at all. It's not all bad though I can snooze now as he only plays computer games and watches you tube when he was younger it was far worse as he used to go on trashing and escaping missions instead.

FallenCaryatid · 19/08/2012 22:54

''dont be fooled by the small stature and seemingly placid appearance' gene'

I think you and I must share a gene or two. Smile

DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 22:55

Claire melatonin only gets them to sleep (supposedly) not keep them asleep. We have melatonin weighted blanket sensory room, black out blinds...he still never sleeps hahaGrin

Oh insanity DS does that! So it does get easier then? At least in the house? clutches straws

Jamillalliamilli · 19/08/2012 22:59

Don't be fooled by the 'I smile all the time at most people gene' either. If the people I was smiling at had a clue what's really going on in my head they'd be backing of carefully...

insanityscratching · 19/08/2012 23:01

It definitely has got easier here as he's got older. It's not physically draining any more and I don't feel like I'm always fighting fires now. I think I am more sad now as his peers are increasingly independent but then again I don't worry about him drinking or doing drugs or having unprotected sex so I suppose there are always positives.

DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 23:02

Thank you insanity. Does the aggression calm down too? I'm really worried about the constant aggression

OP posts:
FallenCaryatid · 19/08/2012 23:05

My DS is much less aggressive at 17 than he was at 12, a combination of a longer fuse giving him time to implement strategies he's learned and increased understanding of what is happening to him and why.
Plus now he's an enormous teenager there is much less crowding and interference from others, so less stress.

insanityscratching · 19/08/2012 23:08

Ds is a pussycat now whereas he was a sabre toothed tiger when younger, we all have scars, some had stitches and others had chipped bones he had a fearsome aim and threw everything he got hold of at us. Now he's pretty much always lovely, I wouldn't have a direct and loud confrontation with him because I'm not certain he wouldn't lash out then but day to day I know he won't hurt me or anyone else.

insanityscratching · 19/08/2012 23:16

We used to live in a house where the front door opened into the hall with the stairs just to the left. Ds used to use it as a vantage point. The SALT who used to visit was a nervous wreck after she narrowly avoided a bedside table he launched on her first visit. Not bad when he wasn't even three at the time. Now he'll just hide out of the way rather than deter people he doesn't want to interact with.

DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 23:17

Oh thank you fallen and insanity. I have recently been googling myself into anxiety thinking of have to get bars and locks or he would have to go into a home Sad

Thanks so much for telling me that! Smile

OP posts:
DozyDuck · 19/08/2012 23:19

Insanity that is the exact setting of my house and the exact way DS knocked me out with a (now binned) huge solid plastic toy! Sadb

Mine didn't throw or destroy things, he was more like The Incredible Hulk combined with Juggernaut. And he could run for miles.
