... or at the very least all the OP's posts?

Just change your settings under Talk: Customise above to highlight the OP's posts in a different colour so they stand out. Then you can scroll through the pages and read all the OP's posts before posting yourself. You can even change how many posts appear on a page in a thread so you don't have to keep going through page after page.

I know some of you see a thread title and nearly wet yourselves in anticipation of posting your opinion before reading barely more than the OP but it might save you some embarrassment when the thread has moved on from say... someone saying her DP complains about her cooking to when it's revealed he's abusing her and the kids. Not to mention it keeps the thread cleaner and more on track.

TIA.

sort of makes it a bit more exciting

whats bookmarking

TheHeirOfSlytherin · 16/08/2012 16:39

I haven't read the whole thread because it's 153 posts long and quite frankly I don't care what other people think but personally, I often post from my phone on the app which hasn't got a feature to highlight posts and you can only see 30 messages at a time. It's a huge PITA and often much easier to just flip a long thread and read the last few posts.

TheHeirOfSlytherin · 16/08/2012 16:40

The bit about not caring was tongue in cheek obviously, of course I care what you all think Grin

Haven't read the thread since I posted but I'll post again anyway. Grin

Seriously though, changing settings is really easy (and I forgive those using the mobile app which I've tried and just made me want to chuck the phone across the room).

Given that you can't really delete posts easily on MN and many threads get a lot of traffic and derail quickly, I just sort of figured if everyone tried a bit harder to contribute usefully to a thread, the thread might be more useful. You know, like a nice Golden Rule sort of thing.

But that's ok, for those who think that's beneath them or they can't be bothered, that old saying "It's better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it" comes to mind.

Original thread that triggered this post was moved to Relationships I believe. Hopefully she will post a new thread so she doesn't have to wade through "plate up one for the kids and one for him and leave it in the oven" a million times in the middle of trying to figure out how with no money, no job, no autonony and no family nearby, she can leave her abusive husband. Sad

Oh do read the thread OP, that point was covered on page 3 Grin

I find your username ironic, OP, considering the current thread, the thread you're referring to and this line:

"But that's ok, for those who think that's beneath them or they can't be bothered, that old saying "It's better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it" comes to mind."

usualsuspect · 16/08/2012 19:46

I hate threads that tell me how to use MN tbh.

Nagoo · 16/08/2012 20:13

OP you are coming across like 'mother' now. [bossyboots]

Tee2072 · 16/08/2012 20:14

Me too, usual.

Actually agrees with the OP but will never admit it.

lovebunny · 16/08/2012 20:22

i think that is an unreasonable request. the thread title and the o p prompt the response, there should be no obligation to read the rest! if its an interesting topic, people might like to plod through every post, but not every time...

Ormiriathomimus · 16/08/2012 20:26

No

Ormiriathomimus · 16/08/2012 20:27

I mean 'yes, you are being unreasonably'.

The 'no' was to the request for everyobne to read the entire thread. That's one of the joys of MN - to be the muppet piling in at the end.

lovebunny · 16/08/2012 20:28

i so love that feeling...

BlueCanary · 16/08/2012 20:39

In theory, MN etiquette dictates that the following are frowned upon:

  1. Posting after not reading whole thread
  2. Posting an OP and then disappearing
  3. Thread about a thread.

OP, you are guilty of two of the above, so I really don't think you have a leg to stand on. So, YABU!

Plus arguably, pointing out the bad manners of others is also bad manners. So you are doubly BU.

HTH!

(But this thread has encouraged me to at long last customise my page sizes, so for that YANBU!).

unless the OP bastarding changes their name halfway through, which is Just Plain Rude I agree with Thumbwitch! (also my favourite upgrade)

FreudianSlipper · 16/08/2012 21:07

i love how on mn anything can turn into a full blown bitchfest debate

how funny op made me giggle

ShellyBoobs · 16/08/2012 21:09

OP, I'll post what I want, when I want, where I want.

so long as it's within MN guidelines

If people didn't drip feed so much, what you're complaining about wouldn't be such an iussue.

YABU.

notmyproblem · 16/08/2012 21:52

Ooh the evening crowd comes out and gives me a pasting. Grin

Lots of people don't understand the Grin in my second post either... shock surprise.

Keep bumping my thread though, the more people read about how to adjust and customise their preferences, the more will do it and the fewer will miss the OPs posts in any thread.

(am I allowed to say that - "any thread" - and not be guilty of posting a thread about a thread? what say you, MN harridans experts?)

"I'll post what I like when I like how I like"

toys ---> pram Sounds a bit like my toddler.

Sorry mum. anyway who made you head of MN?

ShellyBoobs · 16/08/2012 22:05

I didn't read anything other than the OP.
