... or at the very least all the OP's posts?

Just change your settings under Talk: Customise above to highlight the OP's posts in a different colour so they stand out. Then you can scroll through the pages and read all the OP's posts before posting yourself. You can even change how many posts appear on a page in a thread so you don't have to keep going through page after page.

I know some of you see a thread title and nearly wet yourselves in anticipation of posting your opinion before reading barely more than the OP but it might save you some embarrassment when the thread has moved on from say... someone saying her DP complains about her cooking to when it's revealed he's abusing her and the kids. Not to mention it keeps the thread cleaner and more on track.

TIA.

could do with a big swatter as well

LadyBeagleEyes · 16/08/2012 10:41

Of course you know ll31.
It's obvious, unless you're really thick.
Um...
OK then Zaaap.

Nanny0gg · 16/08/2012 10:42

ceeveebee Some forums use a quote facility, which is all very nice until you get ladder quotes, which are quotes within quotes within quotes... (you get the picture) which can be a page long and completely incomprehensible.

(Ta for the phone info, folks)

ViviPru · 16/08/2012 10:42

A Twat Swat?

No, maybe ll31 has a point. Why waste time actually getting to know people's posting styles, it's far less sad to just jump into a thread and make digs at strangers online. Hmm

FoofyShmooffer · 16/08/2012 10:44

Yanbu.
RTFT should be added to the acronyms list.

Yanbu to suggest.
Yabu to expect. There are twats abound on MN. It'll remain that way whether we like it or not.

ceeveebee · 16/08/2012 10:44

Nanny yes I know nethuns and that would not be good! But if there was another way, I don't know, maybe an arrow you could click to see which comment the post related to?

ll31 · 16/08/2012 10:45

its only obvious if you read every single thing they post..... so i repeat get a life... Or else don't expect people to follow your rules and chill

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/08/2012 10:46

this one is resistant

I think the subtle clue we all look for is

"I haven't read the whole thread but....."

That's how we know. It's mystical really.

ViviPru · 16/08/2012 10:50

Why waste time actually getting to know people's posting styles

When you think about it, there are so many Why Waste Time? possibilities on AIBU.

We needn't stop at not wasting time reading the OPs posts.

Why waste time holding down the shift key when using the first-person singular nominative case personal pronoun?

Why waste time making an effort to empathise with the OP and what may have led them to an opinion you disagree with? It's much quicker and easier to project your own personal agenda!

There are so many ways to save time!

Wow - my time wasted spent on AIBU is going to halve at this rate!

EmpressOfTheSevenFlames · 16/08/2012 10:51

Highlighting does work on the mobile site. If you can't be arsed to read the whole thread, what about skipping to the end and reading the last half dozen posts? That should at least give you a bit more of a feel for what's going on.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/08/2012 10:51

why waste time not being a bastard on AIBU? Just be one! Grin

People who just post shitty gubbins without wanting to read any of the thread I suspect are people who love the sound of their own voice but have realised people that have ears also have legs and can therefore escape.

So they come here.

Who are you by the way? That's a cunning disguise you've got going there.

ViviPru · 16/08/2012 11:03

Quite, honey, akin to my bar analogy. I wonder if they do it IRL. Doubtful.

FoofyShmooffer · 16/08/2012 11:03

Yy to Honeydragon who isn't Honeydragon.
