to ask people to read the whole thread before responding...

... or at the very least all the OP's posts?

Just change your settings under Talk: Customise above to highlight the OP's posts in a different colour so they stand out. Then you can scroll through the pages and read all the OP's posts before posting yourself. You can even change how many posts appear on a page in a thread so you don't have to keep going through page after page.

I know some of you see a thread title and nearly wet yourselves in anticipation of posting your opinion before reading barely more than the OP but it might save you some embarrassment when the thread has moved on from say... someone saying her DP complains about her cooking to when it's revealed he's abusing her and the kids. Not to mention it keeps the thread cleaner and more on track.

TIA.

YANBU. I generally make a point to read the first and last page (25ppp here) just in case the thread has gone arse-about, or derailed completely of course Wink

I have the OP's and my posts highlighted - this was my favourite MN upgrade ever, as it makes long threads so much easier to navigate (unless the OP bastarding changes their name halfway through, which is Just Plain Rude)

RTFT should definitely be added to the acronym list.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/08/2012 11:08

Thumbwitch they should make it so that the OP's posts are highlighted even with namechanges, imagine all the sockpuppets coming out the closet then! Grin

Nanny0gg · 16/08/2012 11:09

ViviPru - Grin @ Twat Swat!

ceeveebee I wasn't actually thinking of them as I never go there. (It's actually a parallel to Gransnet but much, much more Hang 'em and Flog 'em)

Couldn't MNHQ just number the posts? It would also make it simpler to reply when everything goes off-topic.

Thumbwitch · 16/08/2012 11:10

ABF - completely agree with that!

ViviPru · 16/08/2012 11:12

Ooh I like the post numbering idea Nanny. That piques my inner stickler...

SilveryMoon · 16/08/2012 11:12

Grin fanjo

I read the start and then the end, nothing ever happens in the middle though, does it? Or have I missed loads all these years?

Seriously though, it is annoying when people don't read the thread but at the same time it is hard to read 700 posts.
This is way I don't end up posting often.

Also, I 've at fingers seen out a really long reply that I think is relevant but then doesn't make sense with all the x-posts by the time I've hit send.

ViviPru · 16/08/2012 11:15

I don't tend to click on really long threads as you describe, Silvery unless the thread title suggests something directly related to my Specialist Topics. (ADHD, Weddings, Motoring, Social Etiquette, Self-Employment, The Urge to Poo in Libraries etc)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/08/2012 11:16

I have seen people piling in on me the OP of a thread because someone gets wrong end of stick due to reading thread then others join in to give the OP a kicking. It wasn't isn't pretty.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/08/2012 11:17

Err not reading thread I meant

Viviennemary · 16/08/2012 11:19

I'm one of the worst culprits for not reading the thread. But sometimes I like to post an answer without reading all the replies in case they influence me too much!!

usualsuspect · 16/08/2012 11:23

Sometimes I just respond to the thread title, thats proper lazy
