to be really annoyed about scented Always pads?

I?ve used Always since they first came out in the UK (waaaay back when) and always (sorry) been happy with them. They were a revelation after the inch-thick leaky horrors of my early teens. Anyway, I notice they are now only available scented ? at least the ones I use (Night ? for those heavy heavy times). WHY???? Not only do I really dislike the heavy implication that a) my fanjo smells terrible and b) I don?t know to wash myself and wear clean underwear, but the smell makes me heave - it?s like the worst elements of synthetic old-lady and teenager perfumes mixed together ? and I really don?t want to stick chemicals right on my most sensitive part. Bought some last month because I hadn?t realised they were scented, and while I can almost never smell my own period I can constantly smell the stupid scent.

Thanks a bunch Always Angry I shall be switching to Boots? own brand from now on (until they become bloody scented as well)

I'm another who had stopped using the new scented pads but noticed last week that you can still buy the old Always pads , they're branded as Always value.

Allonsy · 11/01/2013 12:41

Had used always since starting my period, since the new 'scent' im allergic to them come out in awful rash and cuts down there, wont go back to always, i can imagine they have lost a LOT of customers since changing them.

MrsLouisTheroux · 11/01/2013 14:40

I don't understand [thick]. I have just clicked on OP's link and Always have a scented/unscented range. Click link on left hand side.

lisata · 04/02/2013 12:44

MrsLouisTheroux - It is the Activpearls that are the problem - smell like babies nappies. My kids have mentioned the smell too (when I first put them on!). Really un-necessary - I will never buy Always again.

They have been making me feel so rubbish. Am chucking the rest of my packet out. And have been moved to complain to Always.

Hope the lil-lets ones are better.

Narked · 04/02/2013 13:01

They don't say they're scented. That's the point.

I have two packs sitting in a drawer because DH was here when the shopping arrived and didn't want to refuse the substitution in case I needed towels. So instead of Bodyform, I have rancid Always towels that when you first put them on smell a bit but after an hour of body heat made me feel sick when I went to the loo - it was like being pelted with magic tree air fresheners. And I was sore and itchy after using them for less than a day.

meddie · 04/02/2013 13:17

I had terrible problems with towels causing rashes, soreness etc. I switched to washable natural cotton pads and the difference in comfort is wonderful, no scratchy itchy plastic or nasty chemicals.
Just throw them in a bucket to soak then in the washing machine. No good if your a bit icky about periods.
Havent got as far as some with throwing the soaking water over my veggies yet, but apparently it makes them grow like crazy :P

oldraver · 04/02/2013 13:59

I accidently bought some scented ones, niot only where they vile but they made me sore.

My fanny doesnt need artificially scenting, thank you

pissovski · 04/02/2013 14:08

Hate the new stinky Always . I have really sensitive skin and so would probably have reacted. Fortunately I had seen this discussion before buying any more pads (thank you MN!). Managed to get some very similar to Always, but not yacky smelling pads from Home Bargain (only 59p!) and they seem great.

oldraver · 04/02/2013 14:12

Flowery Twat Grin. I've belly laughed at that

OneLaundryBaskettoRuleThemAll · 10/06/2013 20:13

Sorry to raise a zombie but thank buddha for this thread, I thought I had a disease. My cats litter tray is more fragrant. Actipearls you smell of evil.

hollyisalovelyname · 10/06/2013 20:20

Did you read my mind. Was thinking exactly the same thing today- bloody Always - making them scented. We don't need them scented- even more bloody chemicals (excuse awful pun). WHY ? If it ain't broke why fix it? I'm changing brand too

meditrina · 10/06/2013 20:21

It may be a zombie thread, but I'll just add that I'm another customer that Always have lost. unfortunately, Ocado didn't make it clear enough that the 'bought before' product had had a major change.

I've switched to Bodyform now - and discovered that they're better and cheaper. And don't have itch-producing vile smell.

I wonder how much market share Always have lost in recent months?

trinity0097 · 10/06/2013 20:25

It's the panty liners too, took me about a week to realise it was them rather than me having a weird infection (even took a canisten pill to be on the safe side).

I found some asda ones that are about the same size (large ones) and unscented, but not as happy with the quality (not as much of the backing is sticky so they bunch up a bit during the day) - I haven't found unscented all days anywhere to buy - has anyone else seen any???

hollyisalovelyname · 10/06/2013 20:28

Looks like Always have lost a lot of customers!

NutcrackerFairy · 10/06/2013 21:05

I am quite Confused at this thread...

I use Always Ultra with Wings and think they are pretty good - absorbent and don't move around, comfortable to wear...

I hadn't really noticed any 'eau de old granny', haven't had a burning fanny, no blisters, no thrush...

I think the Active Pearls or whatever they're called do seem to reduce the smell of old blood [and yes I do change SP regularly but sometimes have noticed that menstrual blood gets a little whiffy, sorry if tmi...]

And I can offer get them quite cheap on offer in the supermarket.

So yes, I've been happy with them really.

Shock at how many of you have issues with them though, some of which sound quite serious - infected Bartholin's Cyst WTAF!

BlackStiltonBoots · 10/06/2013 21:41

I had to use some of the always ultra pads recently, my god the itching, burning feeling was horrendous and I had to wear one overnight as the shop was closed. They stank like artificial flowery air freshener too, bleurgh.

I emailed them to complain and they told me that the pads were not scented but that the actipearls neutralise odour by covering it up with headache inducing chemical smell and this may be what I could smell Confused.

Thankfully I now have my mooncup, so won't be using their vile, itchy, rash inducing, pongy pads of distress again!

emanjay · 10/06/2013 22:17

So angry with the manufacturer. I have had several courses of antibiotics for what I thought was cystitis and it was actually caused by these pads. Thats about £22 wasted on unnecessary medicine!! They have ignored my e mail which makes me even more angry!!

Crouchendmumoftwo · 10/06/2013 23:06

The main problem is the itch of the stuff. It has made my fanjo itch like crazy so much so that I cannot use them very often. It was driving me insania until I realised the whiff of chemical perfume or something!

Onesleeptillwembley · 10/06/2013 23:10

I agree, who on earth would imagine a woman needs a scented foof plug? Bloosy ridiculous idea. Mumsnet campaign?

MadameOvary · 10/06/2013 23:22

Just adding my voice to the thread. I used to use Always nighttime too. Not any more. They are rank. Angry

NameChangeFoSho · 10/06/2013 23:50

But they still make them without the smell don't they? I'm sure the ones I use don't have the active pearls.

Well why don't we all complain to Always? I am quite depressed at the messages that are being sent out to girls and young women. Apparently as well as removing all trace of hair, spending hours grooming themselves to look like porn stars, womn are now supposed to smell like a glade air freshener. Hmm you can bet your bottom dollar that men won't be getting jizz-freshener anytime soon.

Gossipmonster · 11/06/2013 00:21

honeytea your post made me cry laughing :)

NameChangeFoSho · 11/06/2013 00:28

Not sure if anyone even cares but I've just checked mine and they do make them without the pearls so if you don't want a stinky minky, just buy the ones without!
