AIBU?

to be really annoyed about scented Always pads?

I?ve used Always since they first came out in the UK (waaaay back when) and always (sorry) been happy with them. They were a revelation after the inch-thick leaky horrors of my early teens. Anyway, I notice they are now only available scented ? at least the ones I use (Night ? for those heavy heavy times). WHY???? Not only do I really dislike the heavy implication that a) my fanjo smells terrible and b) I don?t know to wash myself and wear clean underwear, but the smell makes me heave - it?s like the worst elements of synthetic old-lady and teenager perfumes mixed together ? and I really don?t want to stick chemicals right on my most sensitive part. Bought some last month because I hadn?t realised they were scented, and while I can almost never smell my own period I can constantly smell the stupid scent.

Thanks a bunch Always Angry I shall be switching to Boots? own brand from now on (until they become bloody scented as well)

hold on - forgive me if I'm being dense but that isn't what it says on the linked website - when I click on the "unscented" option it comes up with always ultra with wings which is what I like..... I only ask cos I want to stock up if it is going to change!! I hate scented - horrible horrible.

yadnbu - I hate that fake floral smell. I've switched to Boots own brand, and hope to reach the menopause before they go smelly too.

Cloth San pro. It's the way of the future. You can make it as smelly or not smelly as your heart desires by experimenting with your washing powder.

YANBU - Isn't the generally accepted theory that you shouldn't have anything scented down there?

I wear them [shrug] can't say it even occured to me that they were trying to blot out any female scent. They're covering up what is, frankly, a horrible smell. It doesn't matter if you bathe twice daily, the blood will still hit the pad and it will still smell.

I noticed this when I got my first period after child birth. I'm pretty sure they make me itch, and my skin feels thin an itchy when I wear them.

They make good draw liners though. My knicker draw smells lovely now.

I'm allergic to them, so have switched to cloth san-pro and a mooncup....I wish I had done it years ago. Much, much nicer than all that hot sticky plastic and horrible chemicals!

YADNBU op. I posted this exact same thread a couple of months ago. I can't use them anymore as the smell makes me heave and I hate the idea of having my fanjo smell like old lady perfume.

Someone very kindly pointed out that the Orange always ultra are unscented, I have had some from my local co-op. although I plan to switch brands out of protest (really need to sort out washable sanpro!)
U
I use a Mooncup but I flood after an hour so needed the added protection.

I just checked the ones I bought recently. They don't even say if they are scented or unscented but they do have a very faint scent.

shrug

I have been able to get unscented night time towels from Always. TBH I am moving away from using Always. I have bought Kotex night towels from the pound shop and find that they are good. Day time ones still need investigating as I have heavy periods which are combatted with tablets and would like to continue using Kotex.

If they've recently changed the product, try scouring your local pound shop and stock up - this is where all "end of line" stock usually ends up Grin

What sort of idiot thinks of these things? Hmm

Abel and cole have started selling organic tampons and towels which are chemical and scent free. Why would you want something which is unnatural in/on your fanjo?

So glad I swapped Grin
I can't use tampons, never have been able to and hated pads, used to leak loads
Month 3 of mooncup, love it, can't feel it, periods are lighter, shorter and less cramps

They should just be upfront about it on bus shelters:

Always Scented - for those who are terrified of the smell of their own vaginas!

Does anyone know for for sure that they have disountinued the fragrance free pads or have we just all been caught out by a change in the packaging? TBH when I am shopping for things like this I don't give it much thought. I just pick up what I think is my normal pack.

I don't think blood smells really? It just smells of, well, blood. It doesn't smell nasty, not unless you don't change it often enough.

Scented tampax - ouch! I'm surprised they're allowed to sell something like that given it must irritate a fair proportion of us - does it come with a warning?

Bodyform isn't scented.

Don't like Always because they seem more plasticky than other brands anyway. I always liked Kotex in my younger days, but haven't been able to find them round here for ages. I use wooaaaaaaaahhhh Bodyform nowadays.

I used to find that it smelled when I used disposable pads. With washable ones or using a mooncup it doesn't smell at all, except when it's getting to the end of my period. God knows why Confused

Me too! YABNU.

I opened a new pack and wondered what was wrong with them. Then realised they were supposed to pong like that. It is very wrong. I will finish the pack (waste not want not) but then will have to find something else.

I use a Mooncup and washable Sanpro and liners .
No smell,no fuss and two fingers up at the misogynist arseholes who tell women they smell Hmm

I switched to Boots own brand for exactly this reason (and found they are just as good, plus cheaper - well done Always).

I also got a terrible allergic reaction down below to Aloe Vera toilet paper. Just saying.

They stink, and the smell of them reacts with me to make a really unpleasant smell.

I had used them for many years but they lost me after my first scented pack.
