surely it is a waste of money. and how does the toddler/6 year old even know or understand their t.shirt.

OP posts:

Ooh where are people getting toddler Metallica stuff from? I would love some for DD! DS is 6 and wears AC/DC t-shirts. He probably listens to them as much as many adults who wear the same thing so why not? He also starts a mosh pit in the living room. Grin

Empusa · 29/07/2012 20:55

So, just to piss off the misery guts, which bands should I put on vests for DS?

So far I'm thinking

  • Sisters of Mercy
  • The Cure
  • Specimen
  • Blondie
  • Siouxsie and the Banshees
  • The Cramps
  • Bauhaus
  • Soft Cell

Any Unutterly Wanky fashion tips for 6 year olds Mintyy?

:o

Dress your kids in whatever you like. The time will come soon enough when they want nothing to do with your choices! But if you dress your kids in band tshirts, no one will think it's a band that the child likes, rather a band that the parents want the world to think they like because it's 'cool' and they are interested in how they are perceived by other try hards. My kids like Take That and Abba but I bet no one puts them on a T-shirt. Actually I prefer stripes - maybe that's saying that I want the world to think we are sailors.

WildWorld2004 · 29/07/2012 22:11

What music/bands should a child like then OP??

My dd (8) changes her favourite band/singer every week. She doesnt like justin bieber/one direction those teenybopper bands as they are banned in our house.

FreudianSlipper · 29/07/2012 22:15

ds had a few they were cool prefer it to obvious designer clothes with big labels (which i dislike on adults too)

ds now has really cool lego superman tshirt

DumSpiroSpero · 29/07/2012 23:22

It's really not something I would get wound up about, I think they're quite cute on the whole.

DD is nearly 8 and had recently developed a liking for the CND/Peace symbol design. She also has a Noah & The Whale T-shirt (to be joined by Rizzle Kicks & Jessie J ones when we see them over the next few months no doubt) - nothing try-hard about it, she just loves her music Smile.

Springforward · 29/07/2012 23:26

DS had a Yellow Submarine t-shirt. It was sweet and he did like the song (aged2) when I played it to him, but it was for me really....

My 4 YO has a Kiss t-shirt and several others (whose names I can't remember). DH is a MAD 70s rock lover and DS LOVES that music too. He absolutely chooses to wear them.

I don't know many 4YO+ children who don't choose their own clothes.

My DD turned three, today, and she chooses her own clothes (PINK. Constantly)

So, YABU

GlassofRose · 29/07/2012 23:38

My granddad brought me up on music like the Ramones which I loved and I did have Ramones tshirt, although way too big.

NigellaTufnel · 29/07/2012 23:38

It's not doing any harm. And when they are old enough to like a band I think it's pretty cool.

But it does make the parents seem a bit desperate to be cool when you see a toddler with a band t shirt on.

It's like them saying, "we have a kid but he's so cool he like, loves the Rolling Stones. And we really do too, because we are still totally rocking"

C'mon. Just buy some Mini Boden! Wink

peaksandtroughs · 29/07/2012 23:40

Do kids over 4 usually choose their own clothes? Mine don't.

ravenAK · 29/07/2012 23:52

My ds has several from Empusa's list Grin.

He's also got the Ramones, Queen, Motorhead, Skeletal Family, & his dad's band.

They're all bands he likes, as it happens.

Personally, I shudder at slogan t-shirts which imply that boys are bother & girls are princesses, but the dds seem to have a few hand-me-downs which are considerably more sickly-girly than I'd ever buy. They love them, I live with it.

worrywortisntworryinganymore · 30/07/2012 00:09

peaks - mine do.

My 3YO (3 today!!!) has chosen her own clothes for at least a year. And I mean chosen them from the shop (read: supermarket). SHe decides what she will wear each day.

My DS (now 4YO) has chosen his clothes for at least 6 months.

My DS has HFA and my DD has some 'traits' - Both have got way higher than ave. IQs. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Empusa · 30/07/2012 01:07

Ooh Raven! I forgot Skeletal Family! How did I manage that?!

Nigella There is nothing cool about the Rolling Stones Wink

peaksandtroughs · 30/07/2012 01:19

Mine are 14 and 11 and still just wear what they are bought. The 11 year old has some veto in the buying process but the 14 year old couldn't care less.

ravenAK · 30/07/2012 01:19

They still do good t-shirt. Anne Marie Hurst. Also my mate's on backing vox on the new album, which is ace.

Ds is a big fan .

thecook · 30/07/2012 01:28

YANBU - Fucking loads of middle aged dads round my way dressing their brats in Clash t shirts. That is when they are not at private day school. NIMBYS.

Empusa · 30/07/2012 01:30

Ooh that's excellent Raven :) Shall have to have a listen to it

Frogstomp2299 · 30/07/2012 07:08

Panzee yeh!! Guns n roses my son has one too and now passed onto my daughter, he obviously had no idea who they were at the time but he loves them now

dranksinatra · 30/07/2012 07:29

Lame..

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 30/07/2012 07:44

Surely every parent dresses their children in clothes they like before they can decide themselves...you can't help but transpose some of your personal style on them can you? My DD has had a few band t-shirts (ACDC, Stones, Ramones). She loves rock/metal music...it was the first music that got her dancing. She has a particular fondness for The Travelling Wilburys, but Iv'e yet to find a t-shirt
