To not let my 12 year old stay up for opening ceremony

He's in tears, I'm the worlds cruelest mother :( it goes on till 00.30 and I'm shattered. I've a 9 month old and 4 year old. Been a busy week with lots of days out. He's seen 2 different friends today and grandparents. His dad is picking him up at 9am, I am taking the little ones to a party as well so busy day tomorrow.

So am I being unreasonable?

Depends whether you have the facility to record it for him. It is a one off thing, it will never happen again.

GhostShip · 27/07/2012 21:01

YABU.

Rainshine · 27/07/2012 21:01

Yabu. Let him be tired for the day tomorrow and make sure he's in bed by half ten.

SauvignonBlanche · 27/07/2012 21:02

Can't you just let him watch someone it?

Mamamaiasaura · 27/07/2012 21:02

Won't it be on iplayer?

DuckingHell · 27/07/2012 21:02

My DD is 10 and DS is 5 and they are in bed watching it, I give it half hour before they are asleep! Is he likely to fall asleep any time soon if you put it on for him?

kilmuir · 27/07/2012 21:03

Yabu. Let him watch it. Surely he can turn telly off and go to bed?

emsyj · 27/07/2012 21:04

YABU - let him watch it and take himself to bed. Do you need to stay up til he goes to bed? I'm pretty sure I was able to turn the lights & TV off and go to bed by the time I was 12, but it was a loooooong time ago so can't be 100% sure Blush.

Or at the very least, let him stay up til you go to bed. Go on, don't be a meanie. It's a once in a lifetime.

Mamamaiasaura · 27/07/2012 21:04

I hate backing down. He's an argumentative pain in the bum at moment and constantly pushing for more (I know typical kid). He's been to Paultons, iow, country park, seen friends, meal out and that's a lot and I just want to sleep.

Sirzy · 27/07/2012 21:04

Let him watch it, chances are he will fall asleep before the end anyway. Its a once in a lifetime thing.

griphook · 27/07/2012 21:04

Yanbu, I think it's really silly to have started so late, isn't there something about kids and legacy that's been talked about for seven long years.

But If dad has him tomorrow he can be grummpy with him and you can have a sleep with 9 mths old
.Reckon he'll fall asleep any way as it shit so far

emsyj · 27/07/2012 21:04

Oh, and watching it on iplayer is NOT THE SAME! You know that.

Mamamaiasaura · 27/07/2012 21:04

He's just tidied his bedroom... Bigger big sad eyes...

emsyj · 27/07/2012 21:05

Go to sleep then, don't wait up with him - but let him watch it. It's worse to be a stubborn old mule than to 'back down' - or rather, tell him you've thought about it and changed your mind and that, since it's a once in a lifetime event, he can stay up after all.

Mamamaiasaura · 27/07/2012 21:05

"what have I done wrong today so that I can't watch it? Sad?"

OP posts:
Sirzy · 27/07/2012 21:06

Aww just give in this once!

eurochick · 27/07/2012 21:06

It's a once in a lifetime thing. Don't be a meanie....

usualsuspect · 27/07/2012 21:08

YABU

Mamamaiasaura · 27/07/2012 21:08

I've just said he can watch 10 minutes... It might end up an hour but I'm not telling him that

OP posts:
Natzer · 27/07/2012 21:08

Go on... tell him MNers told you to!

inchoccyheaven · 27/07/2012 21:08

Let him watch it. You don't have to, I'm sure he can be trusted for one night to turn tv off and go to bed if he doesn't fall asleep before it ends.

emsyj · 27/07/2012 21:09

It's okay to admit you were wrong - it's not 'backing down'. Let him watch it to the end!

You big meanie.

emsyj · 27/07/2012 21:09

Yes, tell him you put it to a poll and you lost and he won Grin.
