is it so they can spot each other and feel like they are in some middle class club?

OP posts:
GoranisGod · 12/07/2012 17:14

Lack of self esteem is not something I have ever been accused of lacking lyingGrin

I thought by non-sexy what johnny meant was we make clothes for women in their 30's who for some unfathomable reason want to dress like they are in their 60's.

Sexy possibly isnt the correct word-frumpy has been used a lot on here but I think non threatening is probably more appropriate.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 12/07/2012 17:49

Has anyone been to a Boden factory sale? They hold them every now and again and the one I went to in Wincanton was carnage. Brilliant fun too. I have very pointy elbows and a lot of stamina.

"ha, didnt know this thread would kick off!"

Of course not. it never occurred to you that insulting a group of people would annoy a lot of people Hmm

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 12/07/2012 18:14

OP i am sat here in my Boden Printed Vest Top, Boden Cardigan, wearing Boden Jeans, Boden shoes and oh when i went out earlier i took one of my many Boden handbags.....dislike me much!

I will probably dress the same way tomorrow as 90% of my wardrobe is from Boden.

Why the hell you care is beyond me and why others think is some sort of middle class lifestyle is beyond me.....and even if it was why do you care, don't like it don't buy it but seriously get over yourself.

Oh and as SunnyDelight Personally I wonder why so many people are like sheep buying cheap shit from Primark without ever considering who might be making the stuff so they can sell it at those prices, but it would be really rude to be so judgemental out loud!

hokey-I would presume that primark stuff is made in a sweat shop somewhere by people who are paid pennies-pennies that I will guess probably save them and their families from starvation.

Difference is with boden is that it is also probably made for pennies* yet ridiculously marked up so that a certain demographic of people will buy it...

Roseformeplease · 12/07/2012 18:30

Love Boden as the children's clothes last for ages, have pull in waists for my veruy skinny son and do not make little girls look like porn stars. The clothes let kids be kids and are hard wearing and practical. But I use all the sales and then sell on eBay and make a lot of my money back (also buy on eBay). For myself, I can get a whole new wardrobe each year if I buy and then sell on eBay and the prices hold up. I might buy a dress for £20, wear it for a while and then sell it for the same or, occasionally, more. This is true of other makes as well but Boden jersey dresses are good for work as you don't need to iron, they wash well and can just be pulled on with tights.

Why have I just written that? I don't really care what you think of what I wear.

more expensive does not mean more ethically made. it just means a bigger mark up.

noddyholder · 12/07/2012 19:07

MN is so bloody earnest now We used to laugh at things like this but now everyone is so po faced Weird

Migsy1 · 12/07/2012 19:13

I can't believe people are actually offended by the OP!!!!

I am wearing a Sainsbury's skirt, a White Stuff top and a H&M cardigan.

I like Boden too and I will be wearing a Boden cardigan later when I go out.

It is such fun being so yummy. I even went to an interview the other week wearing a silk Boden dress and I rolled up on a vintage bike with my salmon pink handbag strapped to the back - I kid you not. I got the gig too. The Boden dress did it for me. It didn't occur to me that I might look frumpy Hmm.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/07/2012 19:19

Congrats, Migsy

noddyholder... You may call it 'po faced', I call it fed up with the judgemental morons here. The thread was written to be insulting and it was. It's not funny, amusing or any other kind of adjective to make derogatory comments about other people. Not in my er... "Boden-shaped world" anyway.

Now Worra laughs at my Boden-clad behind and takes the mickey... and I laugh with her. But she IS funny, there's a difference...

diabolo · 12/07/2012 19:20

I've got some pretty, summery Boden dresses that have lasted me through 6 summers so far and look the same as the day they were new.

DS has some of their Johnny B brand polo shirts and jeans - he actually grows out of their clothes rather than them being worn out. Saves me ££££

Some of their women's stuff is a bit frumpy, but most of it (while a bit too feminine for everday wear), is lovely, if expensive.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 12/07/2012 19:20

I've got a few bits o'Boden in my wardrobe
I'm 5'9" and 35, so I like that the dresses and skirts come in a longer length
and yes, given that I work with offenders, non-sexy and non threatening is exactly what I'm aiming for.

DilysPrice · 12/07/2012 19:48

Well Diabolo it's hardly surprising that your flimsy dresses have lasted you through six summers is it? How many times have you been able to wear them over those "summers", Three? Four?

If you are in fact posting from somewhere which has had a nice summer since 2006 then don't correct me, there's a love.

I am currently wearing Gap jeans and a T-shirt from Mark One, which, for the benefit of our younger readers, was New Look's less successful competitor, and closed down in, errm, 2009. T-shirt has been worn regularly since around 2006 and is still looking fine....at 1/4 the price of Boden. And it fits, because I tried it on, in an actual shop.

diabolo · 12/07/2012 20:08

They're not remotely flimsy dilys. They are thickish cotton, and are fully lined. I wear them quite a lot Confused. I live in one of the driest parts of the UK and go on lovely hot summer holidays.

I don't much care if that makes you feel bitter - there's a love! Wink

IWantAnotherBaby · 12/07/2012 20:13

I think its hilarious that anyone has such strong opinions on what someone else is wearing. Don't you have a life of your own? I don't give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks of my clothes, and I couldn't care less what anyone else is wearing!

DilysPrice · 12/07/2012 20:36

Cow! I specifically told you not to tell me that.
The only way my summer dresses are ever going to wear out is if the moths eat them.

Dawndonna · 12/07/2012 20:38

I wear Fat face.

Lucyellensmum99 · 12/07/2012 20:41

I don't and i live in Boden on sea, its almost like a uniform but i always found catologues a bit chavvy myself ;-)

Lucyellensmum99 · 12/07/2012 20:44

I did have to sit in a coffee shop with two school mums while they discussed which denim skirt they had bought from boden, whether they got the A liner with the single line of stitching or the straight one with the double line of stitching. These were two highly qualified intelligent women, i was Shock that you could fill half an hour with talk about a denim skirt.

Noqontrol · 12/07/2012 20:47

Who gives a fuck what anyone else wears. Seriously Hmm Stupid thread.

Anonymumous · 12/07/2012 21:01

Sigh... I'm wearing a maternity skirt from Mothercare (I had my baby three months ago), a baggy purple vest thing from Primark, a spew-infested nursing bra from Mothercare, and plain white cotton knickers from M&S. Oh and a couple of reusable nursing pads that I found in the garage the other day. At some point in the next decade I hope to dye my hair, re-learn the art of applying make-up, have a pedicure, tone up my baggy mummy bits, and remember what it feels like to wear nice, fitted clothes that don't smell of sour milk. In the meantime, I shall just sit here drooling over all the lovely clothes in the Monsoon sale that I have no reason whatsoever to buy... Sad

(I do have a Boden skirt, but that was an accident - I got it from a charity shop and didn't realise it was from Boden for months!)

ravenAK · 12/07/2012 21:51

I wouldn't buy it for me, because the women's clothes are far too colourful.

I would buy the kids' stuff in the sales mind you, were I not blessed with Catalogue Queen Mate whose dd is a bit older than mine, so all I have to do is wait Grin.

I have fond memories of one pair of red cord trousers which are currently adorning their 8th toddler amongst my group of friends. Bloody indestructible!
