is it so they can spot each other and feel like they are in some middle class club?

this thread is brilliant. also love how everyone's all like 'I just wear boden because I like it and it's nobody's business what I choose to wear so don't judge me, but if you're not like me and you choose to shop at next or primark you're a chav and I hate you and I will judge you so fuck off to netmums with the other scum who didn't marry bankers'.

I paraphrase, you understand.

In my circle, snobs shop at Next. I just ordered DS's school trousers from George. Should I send them back and go to John Lewis so I'm allowed to stay on MN?

ladymuckbeth · 12/07/2012 14:02

Personally I can't bear Boden clothes for adults, the kids clothes are okay but also bear that stamp of "hey, look at me, aren't I just so SUNNY with my bold PRINT for everyday wear!" (disclaimer: I'm a miserablist 50 Shades of Neutral person so Boden was never going to be my thing now was it?). Recently tried to get some clothes for husband from there but the sight of him standing there wearing a "look at me with my happy bright SPORTY polo shirt" and "yes they're oversized and I'm middle aged but would you just look at these youthful BOARD SHORTS" just made me laugh. It all went back. What were we thinking...?

However OP, I don't think that makes other MNetters like 'sheep'. They're obviously genuinely bright and sunny and loving a bright print of a Monday morning at the school gates and I'm, well.... not.

i rather like the 1980's blue crown pain and am in the middle of tiling my kitchen so may choose that color when i paint- thanks for the link.

is boden simmerler to verbet(cant remember the rest of the word and i think its called that) i often wonder this as my previous mil likes to demonstrate that shes just as middle class as me (incidently im not neither is she she just thinks i am.) and she often gets clothing from the v one and boden,i know she gets the v stuff from a catalogue called la redoute but apparently they do have there own website

Propertynightmare I'll be in Sheffield on December 8th. He won't care what I'm wearing so long as its pink and its tight.

Dancergirl · 12/07/2012 14:56

I think with Boden you have to pick carefully. Yes, in total agreement over their loudly patterned prints but some of their stuff is lovely, well-made and good quality. A lot of their knitwear is lovely if you stick to the basic colours - lovely and soft and washes well. Some of their heels and wedges are fab.

Children's stuff is nice and lasts and lasts, especially nightwear.

Dancergirl · 12/07/2012 14:57

What do you wear then lequeen? What's wrong with making an effort to put an outfit together? Honestly, why would anyone care what other people wear?

BeattieBow · 12/07/2012 15:06

none of the mums at my dds school either in London or our old city (moved last year) wore boden. I have only met one person who does. so where do all the boden wearers live? (the grown ups not the children)?

I don't know anyone who wears Joules either for that matter.

cuntflapwankbadger · 12/07/2012 15:11

I have a question. If children grow so fast, why do they require clothes that last?

PropertyNightmare · 12/07/2012 15:15

Migsy, Yeah it looks pretty good and it fits you ok, Wear your Pink Glove Babe, he put it on the wrong way!

Socknickingpixie · 12/07/2012 15:17

cunt so they can be passed from child to child or handed on to friends or sold.

also thanks for the wonderful opertunity to place the word cunt in bold type and directly call a person it with out insulting them or being rude,i feel v v v naughty now

5madthings · 12/07/2012 15:38

i buy boden for my children, well the younger two mainly, so ds4 who is 4 and dd who is 18mths, i love the little cord pinafores for dd, they are practical, wash well and i can sell them on. i tend to buy in the sales or i have got quite a few boden bits on the mnet boards.

ds4 has loads of boden trousers,, t-shirts and long sleeved tops, they are his staple wardrobe, they wash well are really hard wearing and i will be able to sell them on, or i may keep them to hand down to my nephew. i got them second hand in the first place anyway so they didnt cost me loads.

have to say i have never seen any adult clothes that i like in boden ,but my mum got a dress recently that she wore to a wedding and it looks very nice. but then i wear whitestuff Shock which is also frowned upon on mnet! cant win, i just wear a mix of bits that are practical and that i like, from supermarket, high street nad more deisgner bits from debenhams, john lewis etc, ditto the children.

blueglue · 12/07/2012 15:42

Nothing wrong with Boden or George at Asda. I often dress my dd in clothes from both those places at the same time. Not sure why anyone gives a damn where anyone else's clothes are from?

onemorebite · 12/07/2012 15:46

agree that middle aged women in head to toe Boden prints can look a bit strange. But I have some brilliant (plain) shirts and trousers that lasted for ages and so v.good value for money.

Love some Boden's kids stuff - I bought some for DD1 and now will be worn by DD2 before flogging on ebay.

Dancergirl · 12/07/2012 15:57

They have to last so they be handed down! Boden stuff is still in brilliant condition after having been worn by 3 dds....then they can be passed on to someone else/charity. I like clothes to last and be worn lots rather than 'disposable'.

SoupDragon · 12/07/2012 16:00

I am currently wearing a lovely beige linen/cotton/silk cardigan from Boden. It is completely and utterly plain - it even has plain cream buttons :)

Cokeaholic · 12/07/2012 16:07

I have just received my order of sale goods from Boden.

£118 for 7 items - age range 11-14 for ds1 - jeans/trousers/shorts/shirts combination. No visible brand logo's, no black/goth/skulls, no on-trend character transfers which will date quickly. Classic "pieces" of clothing that will not date.

From past experience ds1 will wear these followed by ds2 and then I can put them up for sale on ebay and get £40-£50 for them in total. Hems and seams will not unravel after a couple of washes, buttons will not fall off in the second wash (even if they did, there are spare buttons), seams will not twist making it harder to iron the clothes.

So, nice durable clothes, which will be worn by 2 boys and the sold for 40% of the purchase price. This works out at roughly £5 per garment per child over the life of the clothes.

I've done the maths and I'll continue to buy wisely in Johnnie's sales getting clothes that the dc are happy to wear and I'm happy to see them wearing.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 12/07/2012 16:09

I bought a "Rainy-Day" mac off ebay the other day! But it's not stopped raining since 2011. So I have a legitimate excuse.

ssd · 12/07/2012 16:13

ha, didnt know this thread would kick off!

lequeen wins best answers, agree with all she said

piprabbit · 12/07/2012 16:14

I've just bought my first ever Boden item of clothing for me.
I've lost shed loads of weight recently and have celebrated by buying a new Boden dress off ebay. It looks lovely and is very comfy.
I'm still losing weight, so I don't know if I'll wear Boden when I am skinny - but for now it is a very nice change from polyester sacks.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/07/2012 16:18

Some people will look frumpy in anything... it matters not who the designer is or the shop it comes from. The Boden models don't look frumpy... just saying. ; )

The posters who think people wear clothes to 'try desperately hard' must be doing a bit - or quite a lot - of that themselves... I wear what I wear to be dressed and feel good in what I'm wearing. I don't think it takes much effort to do that and I don't care what other people wear or where it comes from - I doubt if I'd know where it was from anyway.

This thread is an eye-opener... :O

GoranisGod · 12/07/2012 16:25

Wasnt there an article where johnny himself admitted that Boden clothes were for women who didnt want to "look sexy" enough to put me off straight away!

GoranisGod · 12/07/2012 16:26

It sure is lying-I buy a lot of dcs clothes from primark,h&m and supermarkets-apparently that makes me a chav.Who knew.....

QuickLookBusy · 12/07/2012 16:35

Well Gorin, I for one don't want to look sexy all of the time. I'm sure a lot of women feel that way.

There are some very obvious loud prints which scream BODEN, but you can buy plain, classic bits that last for years. No one would recognise them as Boden.

I don't care if people don't like or consider it, it just means more in the sales for me.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/07/2012 17:10

Who the hell defines what's 'sexy' anyway? You can bedeck yourself in anything you like, it's doesn't make it 'sexy', that depends on whether you actually suit the look or not.

I really dislike snobs and people who are always weighing up other people - not sexy at all, shows a lack of self-esteem, which is very sad in an adult.
