is it so they can spot each other and feel like they are in some middle class club?

Buttwart · 12/07/2012 10:31

I'd never heard of it before MN either! Grin

SoleSource · 12/07/2012 10:31

I'm older than giggles mum Shock

wearing Primark and Asda though.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/07/2012 11:09

I'm a Boden fan, I have lots of dress, flutter tops, swimsuits and er... more dresses. I don't care who else likes it.

I am looking askance at LeQueen though... 'lifestyle'? These are c-l-o-t-h-e-s. Boden suits my figure (some of it, anyway) and I bet it's cheaper and a bit less pretentious than that bloody Farrow & Ball paint you smear on yours wall... Grin

Migsy1 · 12/07/2012 11:12

I like Boden stuff but I think it is overpriced and not always good quality either. It is hit and miss. However, I NEVER pay full price and I always wait for the sale. They clearly don't expect anyone to be daft enough to pay full price 'cos it is always reduced / on offer.

Buttwart · 12/07/2012 11:14

I REALLY don't get F&B paint. ILs cream over it. It's paint ffs. Weirdos.

Migsy1 · 12/07/2012 11:17

There's several Mums at school, who basically buy the entire Boden catalogue, twice a year...they do the school run dressed like space clowns Grin

This thread is the funniest I've read for ages.

Northernlurker · 12/07/2012 11:21

solesource I would see pretty generous. You need to read the reviews and then you can get an idea of what will suit your shape. I am 5ft 3 with a H cup bust and I've got lots of things. Some stuff is never going to work - like the cord pinafores for example but there's ton that will and a lot is cut to be helpful.

Mandy2003 · 12/07/2012 11:22

Oooh 'eck! I just did a quick eBay search for "Boden, 16" and I seriously had to look at the item descriptions next to the pics in many cases to work out what I was looking at! There was, for example, something that looked like a very baggy stripey boob tube which turned out to be a skirt Shock

But thanks OP for introducing me to the world of "Uplifting Rain Mac"! I will ponder on the meaning of this all day Grin

SoleSource · 12/07/2012 11:28

Thank you Northern I shall follow your advice. I'd scecretly love toown a Boden plain jersey dress. The boots look gorgeous too.

theodorakis · 12/07/2012 11:33

I used to work with a moronic idiotic woman in the UK who looked as if a Boden catalogue had vomited all over her. She was very jolly hockey sticks and wholesome until she had a very public affair with the slimeball deputy head and suddenly moved to Kenya (in a very colonial manner). I hope she is able to get mail order there or she will be naked.

BigBoobiedBertha · 12/07/2012 11:34

I don't mind Boden, some of the prints are a bit out there, admittedly but probably OK if you tone them down with plainer accessories. I wouldn't pay full price for it though as it is out of my price range.

I don't care what anybody wears though. So long as it fits and is suitable for when you are wearing it who gives a damn.

Having said that, I just don't get the fascination with Next. Why people queue up for hours for their over priced, badly made, drab boring stuff I will never know. On the plus side, it is sooo nondescript that outside of the shop it can't really offend me because it just merges and disappears from view.

Hate the children's clothes in Next too. I want to be paid to for the advertising space of having my DC wear their logos all over their clothes. At least Boden doesn't do that.

melika · 12/07/2012 11:35

F and B paint for period houses only? That's what I think anyway! Won't do for my 1960's abode!

I feel left out but it is expensive. Moving to a 1980's house, my dilemma, what paint do I use now????

gordyslovesheep · 12/07/2012 11:50

Melika - Crown do a range for more modern homes - I have 1976 yellow in my hall !

SoleSource · 12/07/2012 12:02

theodorakis PMSL @ naked.

Viviennemary · 12/07/2012 12:02

Boden has never been a part of my life. Now I have to read about it every day on MN. Not that I'm complaining or anything. Smile

BeattieBow · 12/07/2012 12:29

I don't know anyone who wears Boden, but I have read a few reviews which say the a/w stuff is v different . (actually I did once get a jacket for work but abandoned it when I saw an old lady who must have been at least 70 in the same one)

I buy it for my children though - lasts through 4 girls so is vg value. And much nicer than Next shite

gastrognome · 12/07/2012 13:28

I've got nothing against Boden - so many friends rave about the brand that I've even tried to like the stuff they sell. But I just don't.

There always seems to be some element to the clothing that I don't like (admittedly it's sometimes just the price). Including the kids stuff.

Maybe it's the prints?

dixiechick1975 · 12/07/2012 13:34

I buy for DD from boden for the simple reason they don't do the annoying young girls/older girls split that Next, M & S and supermarkets do.

DD is very tall so needed 'older girl's' range from age 4 or so. 90% is not suitable for her age imo.

She is 6 and likes clothes like her friends eg a proper party dress. Boden still do them in a 7-8 or 9-10.

Resale price is excellent on ebay aswell. On a lightly worn girls summer dress you can easily get £10 back.

brettgirl2 · 12/07/2012 13:36

I'd never heard of it until last week. And I'm middle class!

Hopefullyrecovering · 12/07/2012 13:38

The women's clothes are frumpy and horrible but the children's stuff is fantastic and good quality.

PropertyNightmare · 12/07/2012 13:58

Following my husband's recent receipt of 2 very average and of disappointing 'made in China' quality sale items i have this message for Johnnie boy:

You've lost your lip gloss honey,
Oh yeah,
Now nothing you do can turn him on,
There's something wrong,
You had it once but now it's gone.
