is it so they can spot each other and feel like they are in some middle class club?

OP posts:
ariadne1 · 12/07/2012 09:44

methinks the OP doth protest too much

freddiefrog · 12/07/2012 09:45

LaQueen Grin

I have a friend back where we used to live who dressed like that. I think she bought everything from the catalogue everytime a new one came out.

I don't think Boden's got down here yet. It's either casual Quiksilver/Animal/Billabong or jaunty nautical themed tea dresses from Joules

noddyholder · 12/07/2012 09:45

List not lit

DontmindifIdo · 12/07/2012 09:46

well, I love the fact that Boden petite size 8 jeans exactly fit me like they've been made for me. the only other jeans I've found that fit perfectly cost £150, so I can justify having several pairs of Boden ones.

I know it's reputation, but the thing is, I am a 30-something middle class mother who lives outside the M25 but with a DH who commutes into the City each day to work in a bank. I am their target audience and after fighting it for a while, I can't help but concide when I was looking at the jeans I noticed a few other things I like. They know their market. I'm giving in this time round, I've just spent £250...

Tanith · 12/07/2012 09:47

Hate Boden. So middle class tacky.

Only Armani and Dior is good enough for my precious darlings Smile

Actually, joking aside, I did once pick up an Armani jumper on Ebay for my niece. It was so beautiful, the wool so fine that I kept peeping at it and stroking it until I gave it to her Blush

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 12/07/2012 09:50

OP, maybe people just like the clothes they like? Get over it, would be my suggestion.

damn you Mumsnet! Was reading this thread and felt compelled to check Boden's current stock only to find the bastards are having a sale.
I now appear to have an email with 'Boden Order Confirmation' in the subject title and a bright flippy skirt is heading my way...

googleberry · 12/07/2012 09:52

I think I look nice today in my BODEN dress :o

HipHopOpotomus · 12/07/2012 09:52

I think Boden are very overpriced. Some of their dresses are quite nice - but I don't know how all these MN'ers are getting £10 bargins in the sale - I've just looked and it is very much £15 off a £120 dress, and only size 10's in stock. I really can't be bothered with sales like that.

LettyAshton · 12/07/2012 10:00

I wish the Boden catalogue still used their friends as models. Now that was a hoot. Things like "Marmaduke, Potter" and "Crispin, Pilot". It was never "Keith, Accounts Clerk" or "Brian, Head of Fruit & Veg Section".

goodasgold · 12/07/2012 10:00

I hate Boden because however many times I tell myself that I am not going to waste time reading the models' answers to the same old pointless questions, I always do.

CockOff · 12/07/2012 10:02

I reckon Boden is ok if you're in your 50s meybe. I can imagine my mum thinking some of it was "snazzy" (her words not mine) Grin

If you wear it in your 30s it instantly adds 10 years to you. Now I can understand someone who is say 35 wearing it if they have absolutely no interest in fashion / appearance. But if that's the case why spend so much money on your clothes, you could just go to Per Una - there's some reet bargains to be had there ATM Grin

The kids stuff is ok, but soooo overpriced - you can get similar stuff elsewhere for so much cheaper. And I imagine most kids would actually prefer a Peppa Pig tshirt from Asda. If their opinion counts for anything.

SoleSource · 12/07/2012 10:05

I always thought middle clarrrrssss peeps loked down their noses at catalogues. Maybe it is a bad joke, on you them. Grin

Mrsjay · 12/07/2012 10:06

oh marmaduke is a potter and crispin was a pilot I thought that was their full names Grin

Itsgottabebags · 12/07/2012 10:11

Cockoff Grin there's not enough emoticons to express how much I laughted at your postGrin.

Honestyly OP get over yourself why the hell does it matter what people wear?

I suspect this post was just to get people riled up.

AlpinePony · 12/07/2012 10:15

I thought Boden did actually have a shop or two - Swiss Cottage or somewhere? Confused

Anyway, being as I live overseas in an area where the only other UK mums are "netmums", I can assure you I am the only person wearing Boden around here.

My boys look fucking ace too and the stuff is generally so well made that it does well for hand-me-downs - not so expensive now eh?

Anyway, back to the original point about over-priced, 250 quid for a sequined cardi? Lovely jubbly, I'll have 3.

lowfatiscrap12 · 12/07/2012 10:19

I prefer Laura Ashley to Boden. You have to wade through a sea of old fashioned stuff to find the gems though> They have some classic, beautifully cut items which, although quite expensive, wash very well and look great for years. Very chic, very on trend. Well worth it.

Buttwart · 12/07/2012 10:21

YANBU. I've never understood paying for a label.

FunnysInLaJardin · 12/07/2012 10:23

Grin LaQ you are so right. It is a lifestyle and a bollocks one at that. Those women do NOT have children. They are too slim and fresh and young looking. Plus if you look closely you can see summer flowers in the Christmas shoot. V poor

akaemmafrost · 12/07/2012 10:23

There is a Boden shop on Hanger Lane in Acton, West London. Never been in though. Weird location, stands alone and you suddenly have to swerve off the A40 to go to it.

Buttwart · 12/07/2012 10:25

I've never understood why people look down on other people in regard to what they choose to wear. You want to pay for labels and whatever? Good for you. I choose not to, which is good for me.

I get it if it's a superior quality item.
