To think it terrible that peoples grammar and spelling is critised on threads and posts.

I have seen this so many times on threads when posters are roasted for making minor grammar and spelling mistakes. On some threads it goes on and on and on.
I for one have crap grammar and spelling so maybe i'm being sensitive. I have also noticed posters are usually toasted on this when their comments are not agreed on. Am BU?

Do you mean criticised?

WhatWouldMargoDo · 07/07/2012 21:12

I'm sorry, I had to do that. I am a bad bad person. Sorry.

WhatWouldMargoDo · 07/07/2012 21:12

Yanbu.

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 21:13

Just ignore them , I do

JollyGoodFun · 07/07/2012 21:13

In my experience, YABU.

This happens a fair bit in AIBU when folk are being twattish. It's not likely to happen much in chat where things are more lighthearted or in relationships where someone is asking for advice.

Mintyy · 07/07/2012 21:14

I have never noticed "roasting" that "goes on and on". I reckon about one in a thousand (or fewer) grammar/spelling mistakes gets remarked on on Mumsnet.

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 21:14

I have only ever corrected someones spelling once, I mean if you are going to insult me at least spell it correctly.

Serendipity30 · 07/07/2012 21:15

You know what i meant, I know it sounds minor but considering how people defend SN on this site you would think they would not take the piss out of other peoples spelling and grammar. Its not even usually done in a nice way, but in a sneering way.

OP posts:
IAmSherlocked · 07/07/2012 21:15

Why is it terrible? Do you not think that people should have good spelling and grammar?

LeeCoakley · 07/07/2012 21:16

It's usually when the poster is being a twat anyway and never if the poster is in a bad way and posting for support.

Mintyy · 07/07/2012 21:16

Have you got any examples shera?

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 07/07/2012 21:16

Boone comments on my grammar and it is terrible. I type it was I would say it!

I'm obviously not important enough to be corrected Grin

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 21:16

It's a bit snotty to correct someones spelling, I agree with you OP.

GrimmaTheNome · 07/07/2012 21:17

It depends on the context. On the whole it's best reserved for pedants' corner but sometimes it's relevant. Mostly it's just a form of ad hominem attack which is a low tactic.

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 07/07/2012 21:17

No one*

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 21:18

That Boone is a right pedant Grin

Sorry SP

germyrabbit · 07/07/2012 21:19

generally though, standards have dropped dramatically re spelling lately

(talking generally not just mn) annoys me to see it in print so much!!

LeeCoakley · 07/07/2012 21:19

I type it was I would say it!

What the hell is that? Wink

Serendipity30 · 07/07/2012 21:19

I am not saying people should not have good spelling or grammar, its just some people are not good at it including myself. If you are able to understand the point the person is making why correct them I have to say there have been some threads when people have asked for clarification because the post has been hard to understand and that is sometimes asked in a nice way which i think is great.

I feel little better for that usual Grin
