I have seen this so many times on threads when posters are roasted for making minor grammar and spelling mistakes. On some threads it goes on and on and on.
I for one have crap grammar and spelling so maybe i'm being sensitive. I have also noticed posters are usually toasted on this when their comments are not agreed on. Am BU?

Typing a post in Pedants' Corner is a complete nightmare. You are so nervous about grammatical errors that you make easy spelling mistakes! The abuse goes on for ages! Grin

Wow what shera04? Wow good? Wow bad? Wow I'm such a twat?

LentillyFart · 07/07/2012 21:40

Bad grammar/spelling bugs fuck out of me too. I would try never to pull up someone with difficulty - like I said - but I think lazy use of the language is inexcusable really. Did you not go to school? If you don't have a specific learning difficulty but just can't be arsed to learn your own language properly then you're a sitting duck as far as I can see.

As for this - Why does anyone have a right to correct anothers spelling or grammar in this arena FFS - why do YOU think it's ok for our own language to be used in a lazy and incorrect manner - and what does this say about you?

LentillyFart · 07/07/2012 21:41

CaptainKirk - bloody well said - and I agree with you.

QuickLookBusy · 07/07/2012 21:42

I'm dyslexic.

I think people who are great spellers have no idea how embarrassing it is to have these kind of mistakes pointed out.

I also think these "correcters" are rude, crass and a bit "Mrs Hyacinth Bucket".

Good spelling and grammar are important and you simply owe it to yourself to strive to have both.
If your spellcheck is American, change it for a UK one. If you don't know how to do that, Google it.
If you are dyslexic, instead of using it as an excuse be extra vigilant, use spellcheck. Grammar can be learned at any point in life. Foreigners are able to learn to spell and use correct grammar in English so no excuse exists for native speakers really.

Serendipity30 · 07/07/2012 21:45

Dyslexia is not alaways obvious, and it does not mean the person has no intelligence as impllied by some in this post.

Ah ignore 'um , let them be all Angry at their inferiors on MN.

LentillyFart · 07/07/2012 21:45

But usual - you don't plaster yourself all over threads using 'ur' for 'your', 'loose' for lose, 'ppl' for 'people' and all the other aberrations we have to suffer on a daily bloody basis do you?

I'll forgive you the whatevs because it's funny Grin

LentillyFart · 07/07/2012 21:46

LentillyFart You really need to calm down

How rooooooooooooood.

You need to get a grip but we'll not let that come between us!

YANBU
My grammar and spelling is are terrible and whilst I don't mind a quick correction I would be irritated to be subjected to some of the unpleasant comments made by some of the more snarky MN grammar police. It some cases it has nothing to do with people's English and more to do with being mean.

Captain Kirk Einstein, Churchill, Agatha Christie, Fitzgereld were dyslexics.

I expect you think they had no "credibility?"

I don't think I'm better than you at all altinkum - why do you think anyone is better than you? Do you really believe that?

I just don't care on a chat forum TBH. I have no excuses

CaptainKirk · 07/07/2012 21:48

You have every right to disagree with me altinkum. All I am saying is that if a person knows they have issues with writing and don't take the time to do it correctly and don't care what people think of them then I don't need to give any credibility to their post. I won't correct grammar anymore unless someone is attacking me... I'll just ignore the poster.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 07/07/2012 21:48

Ah, captainkirk. Bless you.

And I thought my 'credibility, intelligence, background, character and disposition' was called into question by getting into daft bunfights about feminism or admitting I don't give a fuck about the fruitshoots debate. Nice to know it's my SPAG instead.
