To think it terrible that peoples grammar and spelling is critised on threads and posts.

I have seen this so many times on threads when posters are roasted for making minor grammar and spelling mistakes. On some threads it goes on and on and on.
I for one have crap grammar and spelling so maybe i'm being sensitive. I have also noticed posters are usually toasted on this when their comments are not agreed on. Am BU?

This thread has made me realise how much I miss Cod Sad

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 21:49

Oh god yes , it's a wonder anyone can read the posts from my BB.

QuickLookBusy · 07/07/2012 21:50

And while "correters" may look and judge and then comment on spelling and grammar, you can be asssured that a whole lot of other posters will judge YOU for being so sodding rude.

CaptainKirk · 07/07/2012 21:50

No QuickLookBusy, they just had good speech writers and editors to help them look credible.

shera04 I'm not trying to start an argument with you, I was just curious what you meant by "wow".

Serendipity30 · 07/07/2012 21:51

altinkum exactly, people who think this have no understanding of dyslexia. I am lucky I have it mildly but my brother has dyslexia and Epilepsy, so you can imagine he has the additional difficulty of retaining information. Some people may have bad grammar and spelling because their education may not have been as good as others no excuse to roast them for personal enjoyment. So you spelled the word correctly and they didnt , bravo.

I love this Grin

shera04 - When you speak to people in RL do you correct them then? Do you correct their pronouciation while your in conversation?

Yes, I do - I'm an English teacher so it's partly what they pay me for...

Indeed, quicklook. Or just, um, snigger.

FWIW though I think MN is pretty good compared to lots of websites - CiF is really unpleasant.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 07/07/2012 21:54

IAm, you don't know you're only paid to correct SPAG in your pupils, right?

I teach English Lit occasionally, but I do clock off after the students have left.

I have to write assessments and reports as part of my job so when i do I double check and proof read everythin, so its takes me twice as long as other people who i work with but I do this because it is what is expecte, at times I have to ask a colleague to support me while writing court documents, but my work is respected because the content is of a high level. My work is of a different context to an internet forum.

LRD - yes, I do know that Hmm

Am wondering why you would think I think any differently, based on this thread? Where have I corrected anyone?

QuickLookBusy · 07/07/2012 21:58

Yes LRD, sniggering is probably the best option although I usually think "what a twat"

CaptainKirk · 07/07/2012 21:59

altinkum You're right, I know nothing about dyslexia and TBH I don't care. I have said that I don't bother correcting people so I'm not being rude or offensive.

Maybe it's my loss but I just won't read your posts. I'm sure you, being dyslexic, are part of a small minority of bad grammar users. The majority probably just don't care.

Serendipity30 · 07/07/2012 21:59

CaptainKirk Your whole post was wow, as i was lost for words at your rudeness. How you could take so much from another persons post amazes me. If you dismiss people like that in RL i find that really sad.

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 21:59

alkinkum , the majority of MNetters don't judge you for your posts. Don't feel like you have to defend yourself.

IAmSherlocked · 07/07/2012 22:00

BTW, have never met an English Lit teacher who actually 'clocked off' when the students left - all the ones I know plan and prepare their lessons, including all the hours of reading that that entails, and mark the students' work. Good for you that you can do everything within the lesson itself!

olimpia · 07/07/2012 22:00

Stupid spell checks and autocorrect on phones and PCs make me get stuff wrong like their and there or its and it's so it's not always the poster.'s fault. But yes people are quite unforgiving Sad

usualsuspect · 07/07/2012 22:01

I'm sure we won't loooooose any sleep over Captain Kirk ignoring us.

pchip · 07/07/2012 22:01

Stupid question (I did try google first)... How does dyslexia affect grammar? I ask because there are posts from people who are dyslexic with spelling errors (but the grammar is spot on) and there are other posts with minor spelling errors but incorrect grammar. And why not use spell check and grammar check? Why just spell check?

Serendipity30 · 07/07/2012 22:03

TheLightPassenger · 07/07/2012 22:04

credibility? Shock. why would spelling/grammar mistakes be relevant to whether someone is telling truth or not in the vast majority of cases? do only trolls make spelling mistakes Hmm.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 07/07/2012 22:05

IAm - because you said 'in conversation', as opposed to 'in class'. So I did wonder! Presumably you sometimes have conversations outside class where you don't, right?

QuickLookBusy · 07/07/2012 22:05

IAmSherlocked, I hope you have a bit of empathy towards any of your students with dyslexia. My DD is dyslexic and I hate to think she'd have to deal with someone like you. The way you come across on here is totally unsympathetic.
Just a bit gleeful at your superior skills.
