a set down and I'm beaming...

YABU. And not doing yourself any favours with all this faux outrage at your well deserved flaming. You did not come across as lighthearted but petty and unsportsmanlike. And hopefully you will take your spelling lesson seriously! It's stuff like that which affects your credibility whether you believe it or not.

galletti · 04/07/2012 17:46

You actually said 'to be cheering for Andy Murray to lose .... a set down and I'm beaming'. Doesn't actually come over as light hearted and flippant OP - sounds quite serious IMO. Bit of backtracking going on, perhaps?

YABU

OvO · 04/07/2012 17:52

I have no idea what that means so I guess you aren't who I thought you were. Boo, thought I could come clean about my MN addiction in RL and not need to hide it like a dirty little secret. Grin

wildfig · 04/07/2012 17:54

YABU to post something 'controversial' in AIBU then play the Nest of Vipers defence when told you're being U. If you want Andy Murray to lose because you can't stand his mother, then fine. Rather unsportsmanlike, but hey...

I imagine Roger Federer's mother is lovely. I bet he always buys her flowers on her birthday.

up the Reivers!

wildfig · 04/07/2012 17:56

Also, HEE, to where has the lighthearted, non personal and non malicious banter gone? coming so soon after I find him arrogant, pushy mother, annoying and not pleasant to watch

WilsonFrickett · 04/07/2012 17:57

Ferrer is playing out of his skin, but I still think hope Murray will win it. He is dour and grumpy like most of us Scots. I think it's the weather. He's shit at PR and interviews but I have first-hand knowledge of what he's like with children and he is fantastic, supportive and extremely generous with his time.

Oh and come on, does anyone think that any of the top 50 singles players didn't have a pushy parent?

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 18:00

OvO - sorry the cursing stone comment was at Saltire!

I completely missed your comment sorry Blush I did post the Jack Dee thing on FB the other day. I like to recycle my jokes.

Frontpaw · 04/07/2012 18:01

And how many of them have been completely ripped off financially by their parents?

The Williams sisters dad is very very pushy too.

I don't think you'd get very far with parents who said
'Won? And who is going to polish that damn cup?'
'I'm too busy to give you a lift to practise'
'Rather watch tv than see your coach? OK then'
'Lost - never mind. Letd have an ice cream and forget all about it'

OvO · 04/07/2012 18:02

Well if you are who I think you are then I'm sure you already know who I am! Grin

Shock

I wonder what terrbile things I've admitted on here.

WilsonFrickett · 04/07/2012 18:03

Exactly Front. I wonder if Judy would be so unpopular if she was their dad?

Frontpaw · 04/07/2012 18:06

I see worse 'soccer moms' at school matches. At least she's not jumping up and down screeching 'Take him down! Take him DOWNNNN!' to a bunch of six year olds.

I think most of use would be just as serious and hard if we thought our wee boy could win at Wimbledon!

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 18:09

Ovo, if you are who I think you are then you know as many terrible things about me as I do about you.

Jings, just got a silent phonecall and about leapt out of my skin.

I think judo mums could out-do tennis and soccer mums - some of them are bloomin' terrifying.

Saltire · 04/07/2012 18:09

I don't know who any of you are on facebook or otherwise.

Mrsreiver - I am a scottish borderer, but your comment about Carlisle made me think you are a Cumbrian borderer?

OvO - are you one too?
Grin

WillSingForCake · 04/07/2012 18:12

Loving the irony of the OP posting "surely people can be a bit pleasant to someone?" after being extremely unpleasant to Murray and his mother!

HappyJoyful · 04/07/2012 18:12

Laughing alot at the comment of thinking myself 'cool' for posting something -thats brilliant, thats so why I post on here not.

I am also totally not backtracking on my desire to see Murray lose..just absolutely (and genuinely) staggered at some of the seemingly very personal comments and assumptions made over something that as I said, was a poorly worded post..jeepers, cut some slack.. I also, did make the comment that I was being possibly fickle and would get 'flamed' so completely fine with that part of it.
I am all for praising someone who achieves great things Murray included, so again was not hinting at anything like that.

OP posts:
SquintAndLookCloser · 04/07/2012 18:14

Well Spanish DH would be gutted if Murray won and had the biggest grin when he lost the first set.

I bet when Murray won the second set a lot of you had great big grins on, and as you're hoping Murray will win you are technically hoping Ferrer will lose.

I know the OP worded her first post badly, but I would lay off a bit as not everyone has to support a certain player if they don't want to!

OvO · 04/07/2012 18:14

Tis true. I'm sure I could dig out some photos to blackmail you with if need be. Wink

Saltire, I'm from Peebles.

LadySybilPussPolham · 04/07/2012 18:15

Go Murray!

WilsonFrickett · 04/07/2012 18:17

I'm sorry, did he just serve 4 Aces in a row??? Grin Grin Grin

Saltire · 04/07/2012 18:18

OOh I love Peebles. I'm not saying where I'm from as it's a small place and someone is bound to know me.
I know people in peebles!

ClaireBunting · 04/07/2012 18:21

The OP is being hypocritical by criticising someone else's character when her own is well down the pan.

Murray is an awesome tennis player - in a totally different league from Henman. Judy Murray has devoted her life to British tennis through her involvement in the LTA.

I used to follow the blogs on Andy Murray's website as well as Judy's blog. The overwhelming impression I got was that Andy and his team had tremendous fun together, with their dares and forfeits. Judy came across as very down-to-earth, for example doing Andy's ironing when he was in his Miami apartment (and moaning that Andy couldn't care less - just like my sons).

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 18:23

I'm a Scottish borderer, we just went to see the stone in Carlisle.

OvO - you've been poked on FB.

HappyJoyful · 04/07/2012 18:24

Thanks to those supporting me in my poor spelling, and perhaps wrongly worded dislike of Murray.
Ah, I also very thick too as just grasped the point because I was vaguely (I admit with no real evidence) justifying my dislike about him and his mother that I get personally slated for it.

OP posts:
Saltire · 04/07/2012 18:25

Ah right mrsreiver.

Are you in peebles too - it's ok you don't have to say on here.

Frontpaw · 04/07/2012 18:25

She is nice. Had to sacrifice a hell of a lot for her kids' careers (including her marriage). I feel a bit sorry for her, but I don't think they would be the players they are/will be if not for her.
