a set down and I'm beaming...

my goodness, still getting flamed.. I give up - where has the lighthearted, non personal and non malicious banter gone?

Surely people can be a bit pleasant to someone ? my mistake, again, perhaps AIBU was the wrong place for this.

Ferrer's coach locked him in a cupboard when he was a teenager. Makes Judy Murray seem like a right softy.

JustFabulous · 04/07/2012 17:20

I think you probably thought you were being cool posting this and it has backfired hugely.

It isn't lighthearted to wish defeat on someone who works really hard at a sport they play, representing their country, and has probably nade sacrifices to get as high up the rankings as he has.

AIBU isn't the place for this, nowhere is for daft threads like this.

UnSocialite · 04/07/2012 17:21

I am cheering for Ferrer to win as his is playing very well this tournament and I think he could certainly throw a 'spanner in the works' so to say. Nothing against Murray, I would just rather see Ferrer progress.

Is that such a crime?

Frontpaw · 04/07/2012 17:22

Wish I was good at tennis...

UnSocialite · 04/07/2012 17:22

Just read the end of the thread. Sorry OP but I wouldn't call your first post 'banter'.

BorisTheBold · 04/07/2012 17:22

My goodness, your fake shock and outrage is almost as hilarious as your initial post.

I think JustFabulous has summed it up perfectly.

Saltire · 04/07/2012 17:22

If I'd had to hide in a classroom as a child because a mad gunman was killing my classmates, well I think I'd be a pretty dour Scot too! Hmm

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 17:22

Is there a tennis player playing today who isn't a dreary automaton? It's not as if Andy Murray is the only misery amongst a whole legions of tennis players with Dorothy Parker wits and charm.

I think they all come across as tiresome dullards tbh.

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 17:24

God yes Saltire - wasn't it under his headmaster's desk? I definitely think surviving something like that would give someone a certainly steely determination about them.

Nancy66 · 04/07/2012 17:27

I'd like him to win - i just don't think he ever will.

Saltire · 04/07/2012 17:27

I think he was under a desk, but not sure if it was in a classroom or the heads office.

love the name BTW, are you a Borderer by any chance Grin

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 17:28

I think if he was going to win he would have done so by now, tbh.

Not that I know anything about tennis. perhaps I should keep my trap shut really.

NicholasTeakozy · 04/07/2012 17:31

This is a cracking game, I'll be sorry for the losing player. Ferrer is something else, chasing everything down like his life depended on it.

Petsinmypudenda · 04/07/2012 17:31

I like him. There are enough fake smiles and x factor worthy 'look what i've over come' athletes we don't need another.

NoComet · 04/07/2012 17:32

Andy just never comes over very well in interviews, a bit smug and a bit inclined to moan. I've never warmed to him.

However, I've caught Ferrer grunting, so I may have to here for Murray.

Don't tell my DSIS, she absolutely loathes Murray.

valiumredhead · 04/07/2012 17:32

Oh i think behind every good tennis player is an arrogant pushy parent Wink

valiumredhead · 04/07/2012 17:32

I

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 17:32

Indeed - and the husband is from strong reiving stock as well.

Saltire · 04/07/2012 17:33

MrsRevier - really?, so am I Grin

NoComet · 04/07/2012 17:33

thebody · 04/07/2012 17:34

Well I admire anyone who has the guts and determination to excell at a sport be he David Beckham, Rebecca Addlington or Andy Murray, I know I a lazy arse so good luck to them.

OvO · 04/07/2012 17:39

I'm sure I know you in RL. It was the Jack Dee comment what did it. Grin

paradisechick · 04/07/2012 17:42

Please do not credit Murray with the anyone but England. It was going on long before then!

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 17:43

Yeah? You been to see the cursing stone in Carlisle? A family history to be proud of!
