a set down and I'm beaming...

Tennis annoys me. It isn't enough about the tennis. Andy M is quiet and focussed,I have seen him being quite funny but because isn't a stunner or has a bubbly personality people are always having a go.

Same for the women, its all about their looks and clothes. I really like the Williams sisters, they have been at the top for nearly 15 years but they never get the recognition they deserve.

I really want Andy to win, just to prove everyone wrong though I can't help feeling that it would have been better for him to have won the US open.

trixymalixy · 06/07/2012 19:46

Goan yursel Andy!!!!!!!

LentillyFart · 06/07/2012 19:49

at the wonderful Boris!!! Yeah OP - where are ya?

PorkyandBess · 06/07/2012 19:51

I was rooting for Tsonga, but I'm pleased for Murray as it was a great match.

I do love Federer though, so I'll be cheering him on on Sunday.

DeathMetalMum · 06/07/2012 19:54

Carry on cheering for him to loose it seems to be working :o

BorisTheBold · 06/07/2012 20:10

I aim to please Grin

LaVolcan · 06/07/2012 20:35

I like the Williams sisters too and agree they don't get the recognition they deserve. I would like to see Serena win tomorrow.

Hownoobrooncoo · 06/07/2012 21:43

MUUUUURRRRAAAAYYYYY!!

NicholasTeakozy · 06/07/2012 22:31

The two ladies I rooted for in the semi-finals are in the final. I went for them partly because they don't do the shrieking that the players they beat do. And also because Serena is just a great player, and Radwanska deserves to be in a final.

Lopsided, my favourite female tennis player ever is Justine Henin. She just got the job done, and was bloody good at it.

I would love to see Murray win on Sunday. Much as I admire Federer, I want to see a Scotsman win. Yes, I'm English. I always root for the Scots, unless they're playing England. I always cheer for Wales too, and both the Republic Of Ireland and Northern Eire. I know the Republic aren't British, but they are neighbours.

moonblushtomato · 06/07/2012 22:49

YABU yes, he is monotone, sometimes miserable but he's a bloody brilliant tennis player and WE'VE GOT SOMEONE IN THE FINAL !!!!!!!!!!!!

Re the Williams sisters, they're a definite no-no! Arrogant, feigning injury etc etc

yellowraincoat don't worry, it was meant to be a joke, albeit a borrowed one! Like the murphys, I'm not bitter (or thin skinned unlike some Scottish posters on here!)

Even though this silly thread is full of posters who are taking it very seriously and even bringing up historic terrorist tragedies (surely abit OTT?!)

Please correct me if I am wrong as I haven't read all 13 pages, but is QueenofSiburbia referring to the Dunblane massacre as a historic terrorist tragedy??

CurrySpice · 07/07/2012 10:13

Watched the whole match yesterday and really pleased for him.

Did you see in the interview afterwards they asked him what he was saying when he muttered up at the sky when he won. He refused to tell him. I wonder what that's all about. Does anyone know?

Having a final party on Sunday Grin

PrettyCherryTrees · 07/07/2012 10:20

igggi yes she did.

Queenofsiburbia I'm sure you didn't mean to sound so flippant but please bear in mind that you are talking about the muder of 16 five year olds and their teacher, plus serious injury done to many others.

How far being in the school at the time impact Andy Murray is something only he knows and may not be relevant to a discussion of his tennis but your comment did leave a very bad taste in my mouth.

The people of Dunblane do not consider it historic.

CurrySpice · 07/07/2012 10:23

I didn't realise that he had been involved in those terrible events until I read this thread.

LaVolcan · 07/07/2012 10:42

I went for them partly because they don't do the shrieking that the players they beat do.

I so agree. I caught Sue Barker saying something about decibel meters, and the response from one player (Serena's shrieking opponent, I think), was words to the effect - we've done it since we started playing, we can't change now, try stopping us.

I thought to myself, if they started docking points for the noise, you would find pdq that you did stop.

limitedperiodonly · 07/07/2012 10:48

I watched his aftermatch interview where he answered a wet question about the 'agony' his mum and dad must have gone through watching him when he faltered with something like: 'it was a bit worse for me'.

First he hates the English and now he hates his parents, I thought. Typical Scotch miseryguts. Though obviously he's justified in hating his mum. Pushy cow.

The whole family probably think of so-called droll things to say while they sit in their Highlands hovel of an evening with only a burning cross of St George to warm them.

NicholasTeakozy · 07/07/2012 10:56

Limited :o:o:o

igggi · 07/07/2012 12:05

I thought the comment about his parents was very dry!

Thanks prettycherrytrees, I did hope not though! As well as flippant she was inaccurate twice - "historic" would require rather more years to have passed, and as for "terrorist" - wtaf? What terrorist organisation was responsible? If I were as ignorant about something as QueenofSiburbia, I would keep my mouth shut. Or open it and cause lots of offence, like she did, I suppose.

PrettyCherryTrees · 07/07/2012 15:09

igggi The orginal comment seems has been now so that's good. I suspect the poster concerned was thoughtless rather that deliberately trying to be offensive, I would hope so anyway.

Meanwhile back to 'MON MURRAY!!!!! I may be a little bit over excited will go and sit in the rain for a bit to calm down

igggi · 07/07/2012 20:27

Thanks for passing that on, I wouldn't have thought to look back Smile. Not sure why that rattled me so much, just for someone to be so dismissive of something that must have had a big impact on Murrays's life and then to not even have a basic understanding of what the tragedy actually involved... I'd no personal connection but I remember exactly where I was when I heard.
Will be watching tomorrow (from behind the couch).

Nervousfirsttimer · 08/07/2012 18:15

Beaming all round! Grin

Sad
AmIthatbad · 08/07/2012 18:26

Good for you, you sound nice

RobotLover68 · 08/07/2012 18:29

He was very gracious in defeat - good for him

KellyElly · 08/07/2012 18:32

I was supporting Federer. I don't see tennis as a support your country sport like football. I support the players I like - Nadal first, Federed second.
