To ask what your blood group is if you had a baby in your late 30s or over

I'm coming up to 36 and can't ttc for a little while (hopefully just a few months) due to unrelated medical investigations. But I'm getting jittery about my age and the fact that my blood group is O+. Have seen plenty of articles online about how women who are blood group O have a much faster decline in fertility than women who are A or B. And I've been searching for anecdotal evidence on forums that this isn't always the case but can't find anything.

I know that other peoples' experiences will have no bearing on whether I'll be able to conceive myself when the time comes but I'm still desperately hoping for some reassurance that there are older mums out there who are also blood group O.

Anyone?? I'm also prepared to hear the opposite, that it really is far less likely to happen if you're blood type O...

I'm an O and had my Dcs at 35 and 37 without too much ttc.

Isn't O the most common blood group?

Feminine · 28/06/2012 09:40

Well I had my last baby at 37 , and I am a type A Confused :)

Try not to worry, you don't know that you won't fall first time -like me!

Good luck...and no more looking for evidence.

Promise?

I'm O+, was 35 when I had DS and recently had DD at 39. Haven't heard that about faster decline in fertility for O blood group. FWIW it did take over a year of trying to conceive DS but we conceived DD after 1 contraceptive-free attempt!

RunningOutOfIdeas · 28/06/2012 09:43

I am O neg and had DD1 at 37 and am now pg again at 41.
I can't see why blood group would have any impact on fertility.

Anniegetyourgun · 28/06/2012 09:43

O+, had DS4 at 38.

I think my mother was O+ and she had DBro at 44!

ratspeaker · 28/06/2012 09:43

O
had pregnant/had child at 35 /36

GrimmaTheNome · 28/06/2012 09:44

My mother was O+ and had me at 37. She didn't hit menopause till 56 which presumably is correlated to fertility.

MrsSnaplegs · 28/06/2012 09:44

I am o pos and had dd at 32 and DS at 37

AlpinePony · 28/06/2012 09:46

O+ - first baby at 36, second at 38

tyler80 · 28/06/2012 09:46

my grandma is type o and had her youngest at 45

AlpinePony · 28/06/2012 09:47

ciderpenguin - O+ is indeed the most common.

AlbertoFrog · 28/06/2012 09:48

Another O+ here.

Surprise pregnancy resulting in wonderful DS at the grand old age of 39.

Good luck OP.

Traineetoddlertrainer · 28/06/2012 09:48

O+ DS (only!) at 39. I even conceived while on the mini-pill (in the defence of the mini-pill, I was rather rubbish at taking it properly), so no problems with fetility impact in my case.

Does that make you feel a bit better..?

TimeForLunch · 28/06/2012 09:49

B neg, and had DCs at 33 and 37 with no problems ttc.

It will be interesting to see if blood group does make a difference, although I've never heard of it before.

Good luck and try not to worry - 35/36 is no age these days, you've got plenty of time!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 28/06/2012 09:49

I'm O Neg and was 31 when I had my DS.

O+ is the most common I think so cant think why that would make it hard to conceive.

CuppaTeaJanice · 28/06/2012 09:50

A+, DCs at 32 and 36.

megandraper · 28/06/2012 09:51

I'm O Neg and had DC1 at 36, DC2 at 38 and DC3 at 40. First two conceived on first try, DC3 on second... So that's some anecdotal evidence in your favour :)

Greypuddle · 28/06/2012 09:53

I'm O positive and I'm currently pregnant at 42. Good luck.

Rollmops · 28/06/2012 09:55

O positive (the 'universal donor' apparently?) and had DTs naturally at 39.
Good luck.

Haberdashery · 28/06/2012 09:56

O+ and had a baby at 37 (nearly 38). Then had a MMC at 40 but I honestly think that was just bad luck.

Popoozle · 28/06/2012 09:56

I'm O+ and had DD at 36 without much ttc, even though I also have polycystic ovary syndrome.

My grandmother was also O+ and had my mum at 44.

I really wouldn't worry about your blood group in relation to fertility Smile.

Dawndonna · 28/06/2012 09:56

O+.
Ds at 36.
Twin dds at 37.

Haberdashery · 28/06/2012 09:57

Also, when I had fertility investigations, they were v pleased with my blood results and considered them excellent for my age.

Quenelle · 28/06/2012 09:58

O+ First baby at 40. Had another pregnancy at 42. Pregnant both times within a month.

Rollmops · 28/06/2012 09:59

Oops, just had a quick Google and seems I'm O negative as remember distinctly the doc saying that i'm 'universal donor' and that's o neg.
