To ask what your blood group is if you had a baby in your late 30s or over

I'm coming up to 36 and can't ttc for a little while (hopefully just a few months) due to unrelated medical investigations. But I'm getting jittery about my age and the fact that my blood group is O+. Have seen plenty of articles online about how women who are blood group O have a much faster decline in fertility than women who are A or B. And I've been searching for anecdotal evidence on forums that this isn't always the case but can't find anything.

I know that other peoples' experiences will have no bearing on whether I'll be able to conceive myself when the time comes but I'm still desperately hoping for some reassurance that there are older mums out there who are also blood group O.

Anyone?? I'm also prepared to hear the opposite, that it really is far less likely to happen if you're blood type O...

I'm A+ and had my last baby at 38.

minouminou · 28/06/2012 13:13

I really wouldn't waste too much time looking for evidence!

headfairy · 28/06/2012 13:15

O+ and I had mine at 37 and 39. DD (second baby) was conceived after 2 cycles of ttc.

minouminou · 28/06/2012 13:16

Oh, A+, 35 and 38.
I second asking your mum if you can....it really is the best indicator - not foolproof, but a good rule o' thumb.

WildEyedAndHairy · 28/06/2012 13:22

O+ here too and my DC were born when I was 40 and 43 Smile. Did however take me 3 years to conceive both but that's probably more to do with only having one tube.

scrablet · 28/06/2012 13:30

O+, 1st DD at 38, 2nd at 40, both conceived within weeks of consciously trying, if not less ,was so quick, did not have time to work out cycles Grin

DueinSeptember · 28/06/2012 13:34

I'm O+.

Got pregnant within a month of trying at 30, but unfortunately had a miscarriage.

Then tried for nearly a year and got pregnant, and had my DD at 32. Not sure what took us so long, but I was feeling pretty desperate and maybe this stress affected everything.

Now pregnant again, had a bit of a shock initially as took a chance without protection (just once at Christmas, and it was very early in the cycle so I thought I was 'safe') and must have got pregnant without trying. Will be 36 when baby is born.

wasabipeanut · 28/06/2012 13:40

Never heard of this one! I'm O neg and had children at 34, 36 and 39. The last one (now a whole 8 days old) was conceived the quickest - I was pg 2 and a bit weeks after coming off the pill.

I think you need to chill a bit OP! Trust me, you'll find loads to worry about when pg :)

Calabria · 28/06/2012 13:40

O+, got pregnant at 42 after 14 months of trying.

Rezolution · 28/06/2012 13:42

B+ I have just read this thread and realised that I must be out of the ordinary!

archibaldmonkeyface · 28/06/2012 13:51

I'm O+ and had DC1 at 38 and am currently pregnant with DC2 at 40. Conceived this baby with 3 months of trying and same time for first pregnancy - had early mc with this pregnancy but fell pregnant a month later with DC1

mimbleandlittlemy · 28/06/2012 13:53

0+ and had first child aged 39

tempnameswap · 28/06/2012 13:53

O+ and had second at 40

NimpyWindowMash · 28/06/2012 13:54

A+
Conceived when I was 38. It took me about 8 months of trying.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 28/06/2012 13:56

A+ 36 and 39. Hadn't heard of blood groups affecting fertility before.

RantyMcRantpants · 28/06/2012 13:56

o+

37=DC1
41=DC2
43=DC3

Though that was after lots of MC for DC1&2 (to many to count). DC3 was our little surprise Grin

herecomesthsun · 28/06/2012 13:58

O -ve here. 44 and 47 Grin

GoodPhariseeofDerby · 28/06/2012 14:09

Over 40% of the population has an O blood type, the other groups are much smaller (obviously) so in any group it is likely most people will be an O. I'm O+ and my DH is O-.

fatlazymummy · 28/06/2012 14:17

I am 0+, I had my 2nd child at 36 and my 3rd one at 39. I'm not sure how fertile I am now [and have no wish to find out, shudder] but I am still having periods at age 52.
TBH I have never heard this before.

Noqontrol · 28/06/2012 14:36

AB positive

Dd 38.
Ds 40

ThePathanKhansWitch · 28/06/2012 14:39

O+ 38.

Solo · 28/06/2012 14:46

Fetility problems and about to start IVF.

O- and pg at almost 32 (miscarried), pg at almost 34, gave birth to Ds at 34, pg at 40, miscarried very early, pg again at 40, miscarried, pg again at 42 (birthday gift Wink) and had Dd at almost 43.

I don't think your blood group has anything to do with fertility, but what do I know?!!

dondon33 · 28/06/2012 15:13

Oh pleased to see there doesn't seem much truth in this as TTC at the age of almost 34.
I have DC already but from when I was much much younger and all fertility tests have been ok so was beginning to worry that failure TTC was due to my age.
Good luck OP x

Make of that what you will :)
I was 3 months off 44y when I had my last dc.
I have never heard of fertility being related to blood group.
If your grandmother was still fertile at 44 then it's not impossible that you have inherited that trait :)

phlebas · 28/06/2012 15:26

I'm O-, my dh is A+ & I have anti-A antibodies which affect my group A babies (anaemia & jaundice). I have pretty crap obstetric history

24 - m/c
25 - dc1
26/27 - 3 m/c
28-30 - infertile
30 - IVF, twins m/c second trimester
31 - dc2
32 - m/c second trimester
33 - dc3
35 - dc4

All the pregnancies except the IVF were spontaneous, first time trying conceptions. ime there is no rhyme or reason to fertility, or lack of :(
