To ask what your blood group is if you had a baby in your late 30s or over

I'm coming up to 36 and can't ttc for a little while (hopefully just a few months) due to unrelated medical investigations. But I'm getting jittery about my age and the fact that my blood group is O+. Have seen plenty of articles online about how women who are blood group O have a much faster decline in fertility than women who are A or B. And I've been searching for anecdotal evidence on forums that this isn't always the case but can't find anything.

I know that other peoples' experiences will have no bearing on whether I'll be able to conceive myself when the time comes but I'm still desperately hoping for some reassurance that there are older mums out there who are also blood group O.

Anyone?? I'm also prepared to hear the opposite, that it really is far less likely to happen if you're blood type O...

I'm another one who's never heard this before but just to reassure you, I'm O negative & had 1st child at 27 & twins at 36!!

Good luck.

OuEstCoco · 28/06/2012 10:04

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thanks It's such a relief to hear that there are women out there who conceived so easily.

feminine I do try not to go looking for things to worry about but can't help it. I was the same when pg with my DS (who's nearly 2) Blush

Part of this is that I had an early miscarriage a few weeks ago. I know this is extremely common for all ages of pregnant women but I have still had this sinking feeling that it must be because of my age. Especially as the pregnancy with DS, when i was 33, was fine. And now that I have to put off ttc again for some months, I'm getting more anxious about it.

FunnysInLaJardin · 28/06/2012 10:06

I have never heard of this. I am A rhesus negative and had my DC at 34 and 39

Feminine · 28/06/2012 10:08

((hug)) op I know how sad it is to lose a pregnancy.

Try not to think about it anymore...it will be alright. :)

SunflowersSmile · 28/06/2012 10:08

hiddenhome · 28/06/2012 10:16

4lbsOfShiteInA2lbBag · 28/06/2012 10:18

O+, 36 years old. Currently 40+9 Hmm with DC1. Conceived in 3rd cycle after stopping the pill.

newport67 · 28/06/2012 10:20

o+ with a dh with mild fertility issues. Had dc at 36 38 and surprise pregnancy at 44!
Had also recently been told I was in perimenopausal period.
Good luck op.

oldsilver · 28/06/2012 10:26

O+ Seven years ago, stopped the pill at the end of December, wasn't really TTC just carried on as normal, had a month off when I had chicken pox (yes, it is worse when you are older) conceived in the April. I was 39 when I had DS Smile

OuEstCoco · 28/06/2012 10:30

Wow, quite a few 40+ group O mums then. My great grandmother was 44 when she had my Nan but of course I don't know what her blood type was.

Good luck, everyone who is currently pg. 4lbs hope things get moving soon! You poor thing. My DS was a week early but I was still utterly fed up and uncomfortable by then.

ElizabethPonsonby · 28/06/2012 11:59

O neg here, dc one I was 31, no problems conceiving, and trouble free pregnancy. Currently 37 weeks with dc 2 at 37. Had a miscarriage last year at 15 weeks, but had no problems with current bump, conceived about 2 months after miscarrying.

I still can't stop worrying though, even this far along, so your anxiety is perfectly understandable.

Alligatorpie · 28/06/2012 12:23

O pos. First baby ( unplanned) at 34.
Second baby planned ( and conceived first month of trying) at 40. She is now 15 days old and has no medical problems at all.

swearytramp · 28/06/2012 12:25

0+ too. First (unplanned) aged 25, second (sort of planned Grin) at 35, third (total and utter surprise) at 41!!

lynniep · 28/06/2012 12:25

I was 32 & 35 when I had DS's. No issues with getting pg. Am A+

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 28/06/2012 12:26

O+, 1st at 35, 2nd at 40

theDudesmummy · 28/06/2012 12:27

Blood group O+. Baby at nearly 46.

LimburgseVlaai · 28/06/2012 12:30

Never heard of the O thing!

O+ here, had DD1 when I was 39, after well over a year of ttc; got pregnant again aged 41 very quickly after starting ttc but was molar pregnancy; then got pregnant again aged 43 (again very quickly) and had DD2 when I was nearly 44.

It's almost as if, after the first pregnancy, my body knew what was expected and got on with it much more quickly. Or perhaps we just timed it right.

BaronessBomburst · 28/06/2012 12:31

A+ and had DS four days before I turned 38.

3duracellbunnies · 28/06/2012 12:31

O something! Universal donor was 37 when had last one. Think your mother's age at menopause is best indicator if you can bear to ask her! Mother and sister both 37 when had last child too!

voituredepompier · 28/06/2012 12:39

O neg, first baby just shy of 42, not having much success with no 2 mind, now 45. Mother and grandmother were in menopause in late 30s!

ophelia275 · 28/06/2012 12:49

O-

First baby at 32.
Second baby at 35.

CadleCrap · 28/06/2012 12:54

O+
36
and 39

Bagofholly · 28/06/2012 12:58

Babies at 38 and 39, O+

boschy · 28/06/2012 13:01

OP, maybe this will give you hope? I'm O+.

we struggled for over a year to conceive first pregnancy then miscarried at 8 weeks in the September. We were already on waiting list for IVF; there was concern that the first pregancy was ectopic.

By December I was pregnant with DD1; gave birth the following Sept aged 36. When we thought we'd try for no. 2 we thought it might take a while; conceived first time and she was born in the April when I was 38 (about to be 39).

Fingers crossed and hope it all goes well for you.
