To ask why some people think McDonalds is the devils food?

What have some people got so against it?

I use macdonalds not so much as a treat but more when I really cannot be bothered or we're back really late which usually comes once a month. Everytime I go it's always really busy, weekends it's absolutely full of kids so people must be eating it and they're not all dead/obese/chav scum. So why is it so frowned upon by some?

Netto but I like to eat in places I can come out feeling full and not full of shite,it is possible to have treats and not still feel hungry, bloated and full of shit.

MangoHedgehog · 07/06/2012 22:10

there is a place in the world for Maccy D's. it might not be food strictly speaking, but it still tastes nice

McHappyPants2012 · 07/06/2012 22:27

i agree they do taste rank but they work.

FamiliesShareGerms · 07/06/2012 22:27

My main objection is the eating out of a paper bag / box bit of it. It's basically designed to be eaten on the go, rather than to sit down together as a family to eat. We don't get to do this much during the week, so when we do I don't want to eat off a plastic tray and a cardboard box. Fine for others, not for me.

Serenitysutton · 07/06/2012 22:30

Hangover food! I've only ever had a fillet o fish in there and that's fine by me- not too bad nutritionally either actually. We prob have it about 5 times a year.

If I had children I wouldn't like to stigmatise it really, but just have it treated like any other foo outlet - cafe, fish and chip shop, Starbucks- I wouldn't want it to be the forbidden fruit- they'll never be out of the place by the time they're 15

Rockpool · 07/06/2012 22:43

What I also hate is the way their food continues to contain high fructose corn syrup and trans fats in the US(US menu contains some utter shite)they are also according to Wiki the worlds biggest distributor of toys which they use to encourage kids to eat more.

Again according to Wiki Peta still aren't happy with them ditto Greenpeace. Seem to be causing damage to rainforest in Brazil and there are slavery allegations, links to Cargills.

I really hate the way they do what they have to to shift their shit around the world ie in the UK apparently gone all Riverfordy(although it's all still high in calories, sugar, fat and devoid of anything remotely healthy) but in the US it's still open season on pumping HFCS and transfats into the American public etc.

After the awful hoodwinking they used to do eg cooking "veggie" chips in meat oil etc I just take everything they proclaim with a pinch of salt if you'll pardon the pun.

They want to shift as much food as they can, make as much profit as they can and really they couldn't give a stuff about anything other than the McBuck.

larks35 · 07/06/2012 22:47

Because it isn't really food and this goes for BK too. It's reconstitued stuff and none of it is good. Also McD is just the first example of global Americanism capitalism to have hit us here as well as the 18 teaspoons- of sugar in one glass Coca Cola.

I decided many moons ago to personally boycot McD and BK and have held true to this since. I have no probs with having a quick and easy takeaway meal but what I dislike about about McD particularly is their pretence at being "green" grrrr that gets my goat!

Rockpool · 07/06/2012 22:50

Me too Larks but they are soooooo savvy. They've done the research and after the backlash know it's what is needed to seriously shift some shite in the UK-and it's working.

usualsuspect · 07/06/2012 22:52

All restauranrts try and shift as much food as they can to make as much mobey as they can.

usualsuspect · 07/06/2012 22:53

Or money

usualsuspect · 07/06/2012 22:59

The one near to me also employs a lot of local teenagers and students, you may sneer at the Macjobs but I can assure you a lot of local teenagers are grateful for them.

Rockpool · 07/06/2012 23:00

Wouldn't have as much of a problem with that if they weren't so aggressive about it and had some healthy options.A fruit bag with a few limp apple pieces instead of fries(not even sure you can buy a fruit bag on it's own) and organic milk. That's it.The toys, the advertising, links with films. etc.

Disney have banned them(and other junk food brands) from advertising on their channels and have stopped the use of Disney characters in Happy Meals to try and help with the obesity epidemic.

Hope we get the same over here.

usualsuspect i would work in McDonalds i am not picky where i work.

geegee888 · 08/06/2012 00:12

I don't think its the devil's food. Though why someone would see it as a treat is beyond me. I can't bring myself to eat it because of the smell. The overwhelming stench of fried unhealthy food hits you as soon as you open the doors to the place (can't even bring myself to go in). Unless you are used to that smell it is pretty off-putting.

Buntingbunny · 08/06/2012 00:14

DD2 is very pissed off with "healthy" tastes of nothing nuggets.

Tries to drag me to Bugger king, which I hate.

skybluepearl · 08/06/2012 00:16

have you taken a close look at the ingredients and how they are cooked?

Solo · 08/06/2012 00:18

It tastes like the polystyrene it's served in to me (or what I'd imagine that tastes like). Don't touch it and whilst I'm controlling the Dc's diet, nor will they but sometimes I know Ds 13 eats it

skybluepearl · 08/06/2012 00:20

tastes greasy and salty.

Noqontrol · 08/06/2012 00:22

It tastes rank. Even the Dc won't eat it.

qo · 08/06/2012 00:34

Burger King butger > McDonalds burger

McDonalds fried > Burger King fries

qo · 08/06/2012 00:35

burger* although their butgers are also mighty fine

curiousgeorgie · 08/06/2012 00:37

ScarletLady - I'm a vegetarian too and I've recently discovered ordering a burger with no burger in it... It is Amazing! (like a super convenient cheese, pickle & tomato sauce sandwich ;))

I now go at least once a week to make up for the 27 years I've wasted

Krumbum · 08/06/2012 00:39

Supersize me was a pile of crap. Watch a documentary called 'fat head'. McDonald's is not the end of the world, it's food.

sydneysuze · 08/06/2012 00:48

McDonalds and other fast food burger chains are not food as far as I'm concerned - it's processed plastic with flavourings added. Why would you eat that or feed it to your children?

It also leads to extensive deforestation to raise beef and corn crops, which are often subjected to horrific conditions, in developing countries, not to mention the rocketing levels of diabetes in Western countries - why eat this crap???
