to use bondage tape on dd and dsd?

Rachog · 05/06/2012 22:21

Dd and dsd both 4 are into the little mermaid at the moment. Dd found a Christmas stocking in the toy box and was wearing it like a fin.

This of course caused arguments because dsd wanted a fin too. I remembered that I had a roll of pink bondage tape in the grown up toy box so I used it to bind their legs from knee to ankle leaving their feet Aw flippers.

The girls were made up with their mermaid tails and had lots of fun but when dp came in he was less than impressed.

The tape is like punk plastic on a roll that sticks to itself but not clothes or skin. It's quite flexible and easily torn to remove it.

So was I being unreasonAble?

Oh my mum always used to say she was feeding me and DB mud for dinner. Or that we were going to be living in the garden. Or that she was going to throw us out the window. She also said she'd change the locks while we were out.

My dad says he'll throw me/DS in the sea, used to say he'd tie me to the back of the car and drive, etc etc.

Neither or my parents were child abusers. Neither did they condone child abuse. My mum used to fundraise for child abuse charities in fact!

The "threats" were just their sense of humour. The same sense of humour that meant we, as a family, talked about having a variety of inappropriate songs at mum's funeral.

We just find darker things funny. We aren't alone. Just because you don't doesn't mean we should have to stop.

"pearl clutching" i had to think about it for a while but Grin

lovebunny · 07/06/2012 18:52

is this thread still going? goodness.

there is nothing right about using your sex aids on your children, no matter what your excuse. even 'dp was less than impressed'.

so why are people bothering to get upset or to insult each other? the o p asked if she was being unreasonable, and some of us thought she was. others didn't.

you don't agree with me? are you mistaking me for someone who gives a damn?

Rachog · 07/06/2012 18:53

Dittany - I never said I didn't want to hear opposing views, I actually said a lit of pages ago that I was interested in different points of view and left the thread with the opinion that not everyone will agree with me. Just because I don't change my opinion to agree with yours doesn't mean I am not interested in hearing it.

I would find the comment but it I am on my phone.

Rach it's actually not what you wrote that seems to be upsetting people.

With the mermaid tails no-one is right or wrong - it is not an illegal act just some people would feel comfortable and be able to seperate it from it other use(s) and some couldn't.

It seems because someone jokingly suggested using tape to tie their wriggly child to a chair there are now child abuse accusations. Posters are just pointing out that our parents idely threatened similar to us as children in jest.

Rachog · 07/06/2012 19:18

Thanks youarekidding, I was just addressing dittanys comment about people posting in aibu but not wanting to hear other peoples points of view.

I never expected 12 pages on my thread.

it must have been a big surprise to you, OP

that bomb you dropped Wink

Rachog · 07/06/2012 19:27

It was actually af, I expected a few people to laugh about it, I certainly didn't expect my dp to be accused of being a peadophile or an innocent game likened to child abuse.

Nobody has accused anyone of being a paedophile. But the thread took a turn that was a bit Hmm and is generally not terribly sensible, for the reasons AF explained far better than I.

Rachog · 07/06/2012 19:38

Of course it was innocent I was making the girls a mermaid tail, a game they thoroughly enjoyed. I can seperate the fact that the tape originally was bought for bondage because I don't see our dds in a sexual way. I can watch a dvd snuggled in my bed with them even though that's where we have sex after all.

I don't feel the need to justify my actions any further but I can accept that some people are less able to seperate things in their mind. That is their view which they are entitled to.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/06/2012 19:41

Inappropriate, that's it exactly dittany.

I also very much resented that expressing concerns about the wisdom of the thread means I'm a prudish clutcher of pearls.

youarekidding · 07/06/2012 19:42

OK. This tape is tape. Used for many different purposes. Athletes use it, dancers/ gymnasts use it. Some people use it as clothing, some apparently for DIY! and some to spice up their sex life.

My friend used it to hold her large boobs in place under dresses.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer (at 27) which then spread to her brain and became terminal she made a pink dress out of this tape on a fundraising event for Breast Cancer. It was representative of her journey.

I doubt most people who saw this tape would have thought bondage - I had no idea that the tape my friend wore as a dress was bondage tape until this thread Grin

AmazingBouncingFerret · 07/06/2012 19:44

So far for uses of this magic wonder tape we've had: Bondage, mermaid tails, craft, DIY, and plumbing. I remember seeing some on a stall at the clothes show many many years ago being marketed as a rubber dress. Funnily enoughI didnt buy any cos it was gross.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 07/06/2012 19:45

You know those bales you see on farms all wrapped up in plastic...

Wink
Rachog · 07/06/2012 19:57

Haha tiggy bondage bales.

I mentioned the nature of the tape to explain why dp was a little suprised at first.

I agree the thread title could have been better thought out but it was only ever a light hearted tounge in cheek thread. I obviously should consider that other peoples minds work differently to mine although a lot of people are similar judging by the responses.

Bondage tape is just what it is what if it was 'brown tape' ? would that have been projecting the op's feelings about race onto her children....or parcel tape, would that be seeing them as a possession or a gift?

Seriously, some people need to get a grip

Rachog · 07/06/2012 20:27

Thanks rabbitee, suggestion taken onboard. Though I think next time I will say who thinks aibu for playing mermaids with pink tape. I will probably get a telling off for it being pink or encouraging them to believe nonsence about mermaids.

OP posts:
doggiemumma · 07/06/2012 20:36

The thing that mildly irritates me, is that the "bondage tape" was pink! Do the manufacturers actually think that we think that pink is in any way sexy?? I would say it was far more suited to the use the OP described than any sort of bondage play.
