lolaflores · 30/05/2012 14:04

yes. don't encourage them. someone else may not get that tickled at the unwanted attention.

mumofbumblebea · 30/05/2012 14:07

There is a house being built next door to Ds's nursery, a couple of the builders are vair nice (not that I've been looking) but they're all up on the roof now....yesterday I got my first bit of interaction:
Hi Mate, do you want to come up and help us?!"
said to my 2yr old. He was practising brick laying at a college open day the other week, I was v.tempted to send him up the ladder!

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/05/2012 14:25

I think its rather sad to be honest.

WinkyWinkola · 30/05/2012 14:31

Very sad. They erm won't be very discerning!

knowitallstrikesagain · 30/05/2012 14:33

YANBU. I love being whistled at even when I know they would whistle at a rotting donkey at the side of the road

You must have self esteem issues, maybe you should have had lessons in school...

naturalbaby · 30/05/2012 14:55

It's about as sad as the need to put down other women.

Thehillsarealiveyippee · 30/05/2012 14:59

YANBU...I got chatted up by a woman once (I'm heterosexual) and I was flattered to bits....Wink

Thehillsarealiveyippee · 30/05/2012 15:00

and we have some scaffolders straight from heaven down our road...I've half a mind to go and ask them why they haven't whistled at me! (saunters off to hide from the outraged comments!)

FreeBirdsFlying · 30/05/2012 15:00

Seriously Hmm

Psammead · 30/05/2012 15:01

Whatever floats your boat, OP Smile

Technoviking · 30/05/2012 15:03

Does that mean that if they don't whistle, you will be crushed? Smile

Pam270774 · 30/05/2012 15:03

YANBU...if it gives you a wee confidence boost then I see no harm whatsoever. An old guy who looked completely off his face in town the other day came over to me and told me he really liked my hair and I have to admit it gave me a wee chuckle and made me smile...

Well when I was at school and frequently got whistled at and crude comments yelled by builders - I didn't find it nice - its horrible behaviour and I am glad most builders no longer/are not allowed to do this any more. How often do you see women smile when this happens - particularly young women?

And I fail to see how me saying its sad is putting other women down.

Its possible to pay someone a nice compliment without whistling/yelling at them.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 30/05/2012 15:15

I go out running all the time, no one ever toots me Hmm I'm not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed!!

AllRiseForHerVaj · 30/05/2012 15:15

desperate

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/05/2012 15:15

Pam - someone telling you that you've got nice hair is a bit different to the type of comments that can be shouted at women I think.

knowitallstrikesagain · 30/05/2012 15:18

Crude comments = not nice.

But whistling? I thought it was a way of paying a compliment. To me, getting whistled at is no more offensive than having a builder climb down from his scaffolding and say, 'You look nice' though both are equally unlikely

RoxyRobin · 30/05/2012 15:18

naturalbaby - that was really sweet of them!

DS would have been up there like a shot when he was two if only to get away from me

Novia · 30/05/2012 15:18

Love, love, love it! Totally relate to you. It makes my day when I walk towards work along the main road and get a hoot from a bloke driving a truck or van!

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 30/05/2012 15:20

I often wonder why I don't get whistled at anymore... so depressing.

And to everyone make mean comments, I think you're just jealous.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 30/05/2012 15:21

Pam I have to say I do like my admirers to be sober :)
