To say that I think Kate Middleton looks like she has an eating disorder?

Umm skinny's not the word. Possibly and probably a size zero? Not natural/down to fast metabolism either as she used to be 'bigger'. That waist is thinner than my thigh by a long shot. Even DH said about it this morning and he's generally not interested in that sort of thing.

Don't understand why it hasn't even been mentioned in the press? I'm confident that any other celeb/person in the public eye would be questioned/accused of being anorexic.

I wonder what her BMI is? I would suggest dangerously low, NOT a good example IMO. However, gorgeous teal dress :)

You only have to look at Kate's mother and sister to see that she comes from a slim family. Bad role model FFS!

Or a family that follows the Dukan diet Wink

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/05/2012 09:59

Never heard of it. OK, but look at their bone structure. You can't make someone's bones wider with a few pies. Or their boobs bigger.

Nancy66 · 15/05/2012 10:11

I think she's gained weight in the past couple of months

Hammy02 · 15/05/2012 10:45

I don't agree that anyone is naturally skinny. They may appear to eat what they want but if you actually knew what they ate and how much activity they do, you will see why they are as thin as they are. You'd never hear anyone say someone was naturally obese.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/05/2012 10:47

So what's "natural" then? If someone e.g. me (wouldn't want to look self obsessed now Hmm) ate normally and just carried out a normal life (no gym or jogging or anything) and STILL remained very slender e.g. hip bones showing, knobbly knees, collar bones showing and a bit "ribby", what other conclusion is there to draw?

bumbleymummy · 15/05/2012 10:50

Hammy, I eat like a horse, do feck all exercise and have always been a size 6/8. I have to add extra meals to keep weight on when I'm breastfeeding. I really don't do anything special. That's just the way I'm made.

LilRedWG · 15/05/2012 10:55

hammy02 of course people are naturally skinny. My sister is desperate to put on weight and she just can't. When I was younger I was the same - I ate loads, did bugger all exercise and was a size 8 at my heaviest. At 16 I had a 19" waist.

I really dislike people saying that you must have an eating disorder if you are slim.

nothingoldcanstay · 15/05/2012 10:58

It was that photo of her next to Nicole Kidman that was a bit shocking though. She made Nicole look like a chunky monkey and people have talked about nicole and an ED in the past.

valiumredhead · 15/05/2012 10:59

Not sure people have 'wide' skeletons but of course your boobs can get bigger when you gain wait Grin

Tbh I don't care one way or the other, I just like a good debate Wink

Goldenbear · 15/05/2012 11:35

Did anyone read the link I provided. Imperial College carried out the research so out of the 95,000 people sample only 50 were found to be naturally skinny, possessing the thin gene. Whatever these people did they would always have a BMI below 18. Carriers of this gene fail to put on weight. Ariel and irishchic talked about periods of their life when they were bigger so you can't be a carrier of this gene.

I don't know how many mumsnetters there are but 50 in 95000 sample who are scientifically deemed as naturally skinny, it is highly unlikely that all the posters on this stating they can't do anything to put on weight carry this gene!

It is more likely that environmental factors have a lot more influence on your shape than you either realise or care to acknowledge. Anyway, if you were larger in the past how would you endeavour to find out that you can not put that weight on again, have you carried out an experiment?

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/05/2012 12:07

Tell us how to put on weight, Goldenbear! Pleeeeease! I would love to get bigger boobs and be able to wear nice bosomy clothes Grin (preferably without sitting immobile all day and eating, eating, eating which is about the only way I can see it happening...)

Maybe you do Jaja considering you've been like that for the last thirty years!

Nancy66 · 15/05/2012 12:19

I absolutely agree that there are some people who are effortlessly thin - I just don't think Kate is one of them. She was much, much bigger.

Every naturally skinny person I know has always been thin - a chunky person who gets thin has changed their lifestyle /eating habits

YABU - all celeb women are skinny, well most of them. The reason is that they and how they look are scrutinised tirelessly by the press.

Have you seen pictures of footballer's wives? Pop stars and actresses? I am not a royalist but why are you picking specifically on Kate?

molly3478 · 15/05/2012 12:26

I come from a family where all my mums side are naturally skinny. I have never been bigger, even when pregnant I only get a bump. My brother cant put on weight easily either. I dont think that Kate is like this though as she has been bigger, however I think she looks pretty and has a nice figure.

nothingoldcanstay · 15/05/2012 12:29

Perhaps it is just because we are discussing "thin " here but anyone else notice that the thin people who post all know how much they weigh? The posters who are larger tend to put their dress size up instead.

squoosh · 15/05/2012 12:29

Jajas I can't even imagine what it's like to inhabit a body that never needs to shed pounds at any stage.

sleepingsatellite · 15/05/2012 12:29

I would hate to be in the public eye, I know she chose it, but it must be completely different being told what will be expected of you and having to live with it on a daily basis. It was noted in the paper that she had already worn those Jimmy Choos before, and it looked like the same nail varnish as well! Bloody hell, my nail varnish is about 2 weeks old.. I would be slated by the press!

molly3478 · 15/05/2012 12:33

I think you can tell in rl naurally skinny people. If they look the same as pre pregnancy within days after birth then its probably something inbuilt in them ime.
