To say that I think Kate Middleton looks like she has an eating disorder?

Umm skinny's not the word. Possibly and probably a size zero? Not natural/down to fast metabolism either as she used to be 'bigger'. That waist is thinner than my thigh by a long shot. Even DH said about it this morning and he's generally not interested in that sort of thing.

Don't understand why it hasn't even been mentioned in the press? I'm confident that any other celeb/person in the public eye would be questioned/accused of being anorexic.

I wonder what her BMI is? I would suggest dangerously low, NOT a good example IMO. However, gorgeous teal dress :)

KM is very slim. This is down to a combination of good genes, being athletic, and yes, probably has lost a lot of weight over the last 18months due to a combination of wedding preparation and the stress of her new role in the public eye.

I am 5ft 9inches and weigh 8 and a half stone. My figure looks about the same as hers. I used to be a good 10 and a half to 11 stone in my twenties, mainly because I drank a lot of beer and had a crap diet! Once i had kids, (have 5 now under 12) the weight fell off me because I am always on the go. I also naturally prefer healthier food, hate deep fried anything, and my only vices are wine and chocolate. I walk for an hour 5 times a week.

People tell me i am too thin, and likely i am, but I feel great, eat 3 meals a day and snacks if i need it, have tonnes of energy and hardly ever get colds.

So lay off Kate. Some people are naturally slim and have very high metabolism, enjoy excercising and eating well.

Why do you have to assume she has an EA for god/s sake?

squoosh · 14/05/2012 13:34

I don't think she's anorexic but nor do I think she is naturally thin. That's clearly untrue as you only have to look at any pre wedding photos and she was much more athletically built. Posh Spice also has the 'I'm naturally thin' refrain, she isn't, as any photo from the 90's will clearly show.

I'm willing to bet that KM's new slimline figure is the result of a determined effort on her part to lose weight.

Her body, her choice.

squoosh · 14/05/2012 13:38

Ugh, lot of people giving into bitchy fattist/slimist abuse on this thread.

Oh so predictable.

Get over yourselves.

Goldenbear · 14/05/2012 13:58

ariel, it's not about me believing it or not with regard to naturally slim people. Of course there are naturally slim people but it is not factually correct to say you're naturally slim if you lay off the chips and reduce the amount you drink. In reality it is a tiny % that can eat all the chips they like, not do any exercise (walking included) and stay the same- these people are naturally thin. KM cannot be one of them if she was a lot heavier years back. You're born that way and never put on weight you're whole life If you are that way inclined!

I initially posted to agree with Diddl that underweight is the new slim in the media world. It is the wrong, self obsessed image to portray to girls.....as for a lot it is totally unattainable and I for one don't wants daughter obsessing over image all the time as she grows up. There are other things that make her up- her brain, personality, soul etc...

MarysBeard · 14/05/2012 14:06

I used to be a good 10 and a half to 11 stone in my twenties, mainly because I drank a lot of beer and had a crap diet!

But that's a healthy weight for most people at 5'9". In fact it would be a good weight for me at 5'7". I'd be a size 10 if I weighed 10st something.

I agree. I think it's a shame that KM seems to have fallen foul of this. She was a really healthy weight a few years ago. I think the "Waity Katie" comments (which some people interpreted as "Weighty Katie, for some reason") tipped her over the edge into being overly concerned with her weight.

She seems a lovely person but I do hope young girls, especially those with a naturally heavier, more muscular build don't take her as a role model in terms of how their bodies should look.

Superstickybeak · 14/05/2012 14:22

I'm 5'8 and weigh 9 stone and am a size 10. Of course I work at it! You don't get to be slim and toned by sitting on your arse all day. I work at it because I love being slim and would absolutely loathe being anythingut very slim for a variety of reasons. Other people feel differently.

Be whatever size you want to be and butt out worrying about anyone else. If you want to be slim, be slim, if you want to be fat, be fat.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 14/05/2012 14:22

Goldenbear, hard as it may be to believe, I could eat as much as I could force in my mouth and still not get fat. Some people are like this and are naturally skinny. For me personally, I don't force as much as is physically possible into my mouth because it would make me feel sick and bloated, but I wouldn't be worried about it making me fat. I would worry on the other hand about fat and cholesterol inside my body and the health implications.

I don't understand how you can tell me I'm not naturally slim because I don't eat loads of chips and drink loads of beer Confused. You don't know me.

You only have to look at Kate's mother and sister to see that she comes from a slim family. Bad role model FFS!

TheBigJessie · 14/05/2012 14:30

Waity Katie. Well, that was a load of nonsense, whichever spelling you use! Journalists spinning a limited amount of facts into a story, based on sexist assumptions about how relationships work.

Goldenbear · 14/05/2012 14:38

You contradicted yourself ariel by saying you have laid off the chips and larger a d quelle surprise you became slimmer in your late twenties. You choose not to stuff your face with chips and fatty stuff because it is not healthy. So you have a healthy diet and dont get fat but you were bigger in your early twenties when by your own admission you ate more chips and drank more lager- makes sense doesn't it?

I'm sure you are very slim but we will have to agree to disagree about what constitutes being naturally slim. Like I said before it is something like 1 or 2 % of the population that are that way inclined their whole life!!

Goldenbear · 14/05/2012 14:40

I didn't say 'bad role model', I would never ever dream of KM being a rolei model for myself and hopefully anyone I'm friends with or related to!!

irishchic · 14/05/2012 14:44

Can we please knock this fallacy on the head that just because you weighed more, 1, 5 or 10 years ago means that if you are thinner now it's because you are working at it. For 10 years after I got married i was 9 and a half stone, despite having 5 kids, doing no exercise and eating a diet that was way too high in sugar, fat and too much wine, (two glasses each night and more at the weekend.)

Why do you have to be defined by what you weighed 10 years ago?

Who is to say, (and by what authority) because I used to be a size 14 at some point in my life, then that is what I should be ever after that?

Incidentally, I know quite a few friends of mine who were heavier in their twenties, and then after getting married and having kids ended up slimmer, despite eating better now than when they were in their twenties and starving themselves on permanent diets.

I just dont get this, "oh well she was heavier a couple of years ago so she cant be slimmer now" line at all.

Goldenbear · 14/05/2012 14:45

Anyway Ariel enough about you.....you're sounding obsessed with yourself....I'm sure you are very very thin....ok is that the right response?

Goldenbear · 14/05/2012 14:49

Irish Chic you say you walk an hour a day, that's quite a lot if you are fast. I walk 4 x a week 4 miles. Yes I can I eat what I want and stay the same weight or I can eat less and loose it. There is nothing natural about it.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 14/05/2012 14:49

I feel like going back onto the chips and beer now just to prove you wrong. And I can add that when i was 17 and living at home I was nine and half stone as opposed to my current eight and half. My mum certainly did not feed me nothing but chips and beer Grin. People's shapes change as they get older. Larger women are always saying that and it's true, but people are different and can change differently

Irishchic, thank god. Someone else sees sense.

Kate is "too thin" indeed. Too thin for what?

squoosh · 14/05/2012 14:53

She was always sporty slim, now she's very slim. It's very unlikely that has happened by accident. More likely it's a result of her now being one of the most photographed women in the world. Being constantly being bombarded with photos of yourself must be a bit surreal and it must be very easy to then get very self criticial (not saying she is self critical but it's a possibility) and then try to 'correct' this.

I wish she'd lose the Cheryl Cole hair extensions though.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 14/05/2012 14:54

That's right, I am completely obsessed with myself Hmm

I am using myself as an example that not everyone is naturally "curvy" (which I believe is the current word to use), to stick up for Kate who is facing completely uncalled for flak about her weight and shape.

squoosh · 14/05/2012 14:58

There are
very few 'naturally skinny' people,
lots of 'naturally slim' people,
lots of 'naturally bigger than slim' people
very few 'naturally obese' people.

Stop lobbing stones, skinny stones, fat stones at your opposite number.

Goldenbear · 14/05/2012 15:13

Well ariel, I don't think KM is naturally skinny, you align yourself with her by all means but naturally skinny is not the same as slim, which is what KM is.

JosieZ · 14/05/2012 15:28

I was researching a relative's war history.

All the young women in the photos were Kate Middleton size, and they looked fab in their 1940s dresses and hairstyles. This was partly due to rationing but also just that food wasn't as easily available or affordable, men were slim too. They looked v healthy.

PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 15:39

Squoosh - "I wish she'd lose the Cheryl Cole hair extensions though."

Shock is that not her natural hair? I've always had massive hair-envy of her!

Superstickybeak · 14/05/2012 16:02

What is " naturally fat"?

Is it like " naturally skinny" but in reverse?

squoosh · 14/05/2012 16:05

Panda I'm afraid it' true. There's no way all that bouncy, glossiness is all hers. A village in Russia has been shorn for The Duchess (maybe).

Or maybe it's her hair rejoicing its new royal connection and growing all lustrous in celebration.

CremeEggThief · 14/05/2012 16:07

I always thought it was her real hair too!
