I'm a childminder and am 8 weeks pg. I've got a family coming at the weekend to hopefully sign up for full time care ( 5 days a week) for their lo starting July.
Would it be very wrong of me not to mention the pg. until the lo has settled in with me. I just really don't want to put them off.
If my last pg's are anything to go by, I won't be showing till about September.
Also, I've only ever taken 4 weeks off maternity and last time just 2 weeks. I'm due at Christmas so this would tie in nicely with Christmas hols.
If I needed to take more time off, I have back up CM's who would cover.
Would you prefer to be told now, and would it put you off? ( my other parents have been very happy when my other dc arrived and it really didn't impact on their lo's care ).
Writing it down it seems a bit dishonest, doesn't it. Maybe I'd mention it come JUly when she starts...

I don't know if mumsnet will keep you sane thebody but it's a fun way to pass the time. I hope your daughter has a speedy recovery, bless her.

Ooh I'm going to be slated for this but I don't think you should tell OP. And here's why:
(1) at 8 weeks the pregnancy is not established, I'm not wishing ill on you but anything could happen;
(2) ANYONE, at ANY TIME could get sick, pregnancy is not an illness and if a CM was hit by a bus no-one would be cross with her (unless she had DC in her care at the time obv) so saying 'well you are more likely to need time off if you are sick;
(3) Childminders are people too and have a right to privacy and their own family lives. It's a chance you take with anyone you employ or use the services on that their lives may change and they may not be able to offer the same services. The CM has alternate arrangements, I think you are all being a teeny bit selfish and mean TBH.
