He has refused to move out his washing machine - I have a really nice washing machine - I want my washing machine in my house. I've agreed to pay his mortgage +++ for a year I don't want to have to store his bloody washing machine. Grr. Hate renting.

Buy a house then and stop complaining.

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 03/05/2012 22:56

YABU, by the way.

WorraLiberty · 03/05/2012 22:57

Loopy I'm almost sure it's not that easy Lol

YANBU OP, that's a bummer Sad

bronze · 03/05/2012 22:58

Woah harsh
If the house wasn't advertised with it being included then yes he should really store it himself

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 03/05/2012 22:58

Move it. Put it in the shed or something! We rent and have had to do things like this at times...wrap it up so it comes to no harm and then pop it back before you leave.

squeakytoy · 03/05/2012 22:58

You havent agreed to pay his mortgage, you have agreed to pay rent.

If the house comes with a washing machine included then you can either remove it yourself and put it into storage until you move out, or put your own in storage... or the shed....

wonderstuff · 03/05/2012 22:59

As soon as I manage to save my gross annual salary I will Loopy. Shame I have to use my earnings for silly things like food, electric, oh and some other bugger's mortgage.

But you know good for you being so smug, must be nice.

OP posts:
TheHouseOnTheCorner · 03/05/2012 22:59

We popped a massive and ugly unit in the attic and also took down the overhead storage in our current house. We don't want them....he wouldn''t move them...so we did. They're stored well...no harm done.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 03/05/2012 22:59

You are not paying his mortgage ++++ like it's some favour. You are paying your rent.

As for the washing machine - what was said before you signed the lease?

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 03/05/2012 23:02

You are really bitter aren't you. It's not his fault you can't buy a house, he's letting you live in a house he has bought in return for rent, you need to start respecting this instead of treating him like shit before you have even moved in. You cannot simply 'store' his washing machine, it will do it no good to sit unused for a year. This should have been sorted out before you signed the lease.

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 03/05/2012 23:03

We rent a house out, with white goods etc. as that is what tenants want. If a tenant moves in with a washing machine, they have to find somewhere to store it. Why would I pay to have it stored somewhere when I've provided one with the house due to that being the normal requirement?

And how do you know how much his mortgage is? On our rental property, rent pays for mortgage + insurance. Not enough even for wear and tear of the new bloody washing machine.

wonderstuff · 03/05/2012 23:05

If I had a shed I would put it in. If there were a range of affordable properties I could choose from then I would make a different option, there aren't. Just annoying that I'm paying him well over £8000 and he won't ditch a cheap washing machine. But you know whatever. Just like the £150 I'm paying the agency to print out my tenancy agreement and the £450 I'm paying for them to gather references - my own stupid fault for not being rich enough for a mortgage of my own (or poor enough for social housing).

Could all be much worse, I'm dead lucky to be able to live where I do I'm sure - just annoyed.

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 03/05/2012 23:07

You might want to put that chip on your shoulder into storage too...

wonderstuff · 03/05/2012 23:07

How the fuck an I treating him like shit WTF?

OP posts:
LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 03/05/2012 23:08

You do realise he also has to pay the agency, for the tenancy agreement, for management and for advertisement? You do realise they will be taking about 15% of his money? You do realise mortgages, well, cost... don't you?

wonderstuff · 03/05/2012 23:09

Makes you wonder why on earth anyone would rent out a house - had I realised it was an act of charity I would have approached the whole thing differently.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 03/05/2012 23:10

You don't have to be poor to qualify for social housing

pickles35 · 03/05/2012 23:11

If its a cheap one prehaps you could agree to ditch it and replace it? I rent my flat out, not through choice just cos I can't sell it and I've tried to be accommodating but I've removed beds drawers etc and ended up having to buy it all again when the tenants move out. Ive got nowhere to store anything and your landlord might not either. I'm having to rent now too as my flat is in negative equity and not suitable for a baby. It's not always easy to buy in this current climate and it does make me sad as I would prefer to put the money into a house of my own.

Firawla · 03/05/2012 23:13

yanbu i was in your same situation. place was advertised as being with washing machine which was all good til we actually moved in and found it was a disgusting filled with mould and not working skanky filthy heap of junk instead of an actual washing machine. we told her we wanted to dispose of it and either put our own one in, or her to replace it with a working clean one - she said no to both. she is a total bitch and weirdo though!! very glad to be away from her now

but if its a working one yours has left it complicates it more, hopefully you can sort it out with him though or if he wont budge on it and you will be there longterm then just sell your other one? definitely dont pay for storage on it because it wont be worth it.
even see if theres anyone you know needing a washing machine and lend either your one or the landlords one out to them for a yr! better option than paying these storage places as prizes are horrendous & totally ridiculous

Teeb · 03/05/2012 23:13

Why didn't you choose a flat that didn't come with white goods?

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 03/05/2012 23:15

Ooh why are people being SO mean! OP...chuck it out. If it's a cheap one, you can replace it when you leave. People are being silly saying *why didn't you rent a flat which didn't come with white goods" when people who live in the real world know how hard it is to rent a decent place.

HarrietSchulenberg · 03/05/2012 23:16

YANB totally U Wonderstuff, though if the house came with the washing machine you can't really expect him to put it somewhere else.

I hadn't realised that being a landlord was a charitable act either. I thought it was all about making money out of property. If being a landlord is such a burden, Loopy, well, sell the f*cking house instead of sitting on it waiting for it to lay a golden egg.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 03/05/2012 23:17

When I was looking to rent teeb THAT was last on my list of priorities! We look first at cost, then at area....then at cleanliness and whether the landlord is a weirdo. VERY few properties come up that suit everyone.

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 03/05/2012 23:17

Can't sell it. Can't afford to. We'd be in negative equity and owe money we don't have. Nothing to do with nest eggs.

Teeb · 03/05/2012 23:19

That's absolutely fine TheHouse, but then I would assume you wouldn't need to moan about said white goods you get if they aren't of a priority to you.
