Mumsnet and McDonalds

tattychicken · 03/05/2012 08:13

DH popped into a Mcdonalds yesterday to (ahem) use the facilities. Did his usual trick of taking his iPhone with him, and later let me know that when he was connecting to the Internet, the free wifi for McDonalds users popped up 'in conjunction with Mumsnet'!!! The blurb on mumsnet still says they don't allow advertising from mcdonalds, but when we googled it, it turns out this ban was lifted last May, and 'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.

I have seen hundreds of threads where people are asking for advice about eating habits, mealtimes etc and then get the sawdust and water feeding supermums who attack and absolutely slate them and make them feel crap about their parenting. The phrase "why would you feed your child poison" brings out the fishwife in me. If you judge others, as well as use their bloody toilets because you are too tight to buy a cuppa in a waever cafe then you deserve no sympathy. Remember how the rest of us feel when you try to make us feel inferior all the time.

theodorakis · 04/05/2012 09:41

and the (ahem) reeks of snobbery. You probably watch Big Brother but "only in an ironic way" as well.

sairygamp · 04/05/2012 12:18

theodakoris I actually love you.

sairygamp · 04/05/2012 12:20

Although of course, I only watch Coronation Street for its fascinating sociological slant on the ever changing working class northern man thrust into technological 21st century Britain..which I will probably use in the thesis I will write in the 'Rainbow Vegan Cafe'

theodorakis · 04/05/2012 12:52

But sairy, just realised the real irony, I was eating a really scrummy homemade lentil soup as I was typing. I hardly ever make soup or eat lentils and it was only because Subway is closed.

I would like to point out that none of my posts above that have been deleted contained anything that breaks the talk guidelines. I would like to know why they were deleted mnhq

CockyPants · 04/05/2012 13:39

Bemused to see that this thread is still boring on.
If you want to shove empire of evil clown in to your face go for it. I will!
If you want to frequent the mouldy lentil cafe go for it.
But please get some perspective and devote your attention to issues that really matter, Syria, kids going hungry or drinking filthy water, child soldiers etc.
Jeesh.

ooooh be careful LeQ, that sounds like a personal attack to me Hmm

CockyPants · 04/05/2012 14:00

Dd goes to a private school. I'm a lawyer. Household earns above average wage. Some people may call this middle class. I eat at mcdo. I buy some organic produce. I think joules and boden is quite Chav actually.
This post is more about people having too much time on their hands rather than class warfare. Like I said, perspective, people...

CallMeAl · 04/05/2012 14:17

How can it be a personal attack when its about lots of people? Do you know what personal means?

bringmesunshine2009 · 04/05/2012 14:17

Cocky pants, if Joules and Boden are chavvy, WHAT do your children wear? Handmade imported Italian separates?!

Love a bit of McDs myself. Don't take the DCs. Double standards me!

perceptionreality · 04/05/2012 14:19

Joules is 'quite Chav'? (laughs) Chav is an horrible expression / way to describe anyone anyway...

bringmesunshine2009 · 04/05/2012 14:23

Was paraphrasing not using term :) in context I took it to mean a bit common Grin

hairylemon · 04/05/2012 14:31

CallMeAl - my post was a crap attempt at sarcasm because two of my earlier posts have been deleted for....I dont know why tbh.

LeQ is spot on with her post.

But to answer your question yes I do know what personal means.

EXACTLY. a chicken farking nugget is a chicken farking nugget.

Vessel · 04/05/2012 18:51

Everything in moderation. Hating McDonald's is a trend.

ivykaty44 · 04/05/2012 19:05

everything in moderation - but why would I want to do everything in moderation if I dislike the food. I have tried it and don't like the food, the burger buns gave me heart burn and the burgers inside didn't have any taste IMO.

Give me a steak between two slices of bread and I am happy, or a bacon sarnie and I think this type of food is lovely taste good and enjoy eating - so why eat food I don't enjoy just to eat everything in moderation - madness.

It isn't just mcd's I don't like - there are plenty of other chain type places that I have tried that I don't like the food - pizza hut, cafe rouge, frankie and somethings. I think the buffalo grill which has plenty of places in france is the worst of the lot - it was the most awful food.

I will admit I have never had a KFC so have no idea what it taste like, but have no particular desire to try the food they serve as not that keen on breaded chicken - I could be wrong though and possibly I am missing an enjoyable meal?

There is no way I am going to have any food from Mcd's apart from their milkshakes - which I do like, But as I don't go to mcd's I rarely have a milkshake.

it isn't a trend if you have tried the food and don't like it.

Vessel · 04/05/2012 19:13

ok, hating mcdonald's is a trend AS WELL AS sometimes perfectly fair enough but you don't start a thread like this just because you're not keen on the burgers.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 04/05/2012 19:15

to be fair, the OP started the thread because she thought MN and McD's were an odd association (she's new, she didn't know this had been debated endlessly and when she looked it up online there was a bloody big bit on here about how they'd never accept ads from McD's.

which is really just an error on MNHQ's part, that page should have been updated a year ago.

and then people with mahoosive great french fries on their shoulders started seeing things that weren't there. Wink Grin

Vessel · 04/05/2012 19:25

but i don't understand what her problem is with it. That said, I can hardly be arsed reading through every post...
