Mumsnet and McDonalds

DH popped into a Mcdonalds yesterday to (ahem) use the facilities. Did his usual trick of taking his iPhone with him, and later let me know that when he was connecting to the Internet, the free wifi for McDonalds users popped up 'in conjunction with Mumsnet'!!! The blurb on mumsnet still says they don't allow advertising from mcdonalds, but when we googled it, it turns out this ban was lifted last May, and 'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.

Grin at MnDonalds. It should be the name of a new McD Lentilburger.

CrispyCod · 03/05/2012 08:55

Seriously, am I missing something here? Is there an ethical reason why MN shouldn't allow McDonalds to advertise?

If it's due to diet and health then that's for the individual to decide and avoid such places. There is enough information out there to enable you to make an informed choice on these things.

If it's regarding meat/animal cruelty etc then again, you have the choice to avoid such establishments.

I personally don't eat McDs anymore. I am on the Vegetarian journey! However, when I did eat them I bloody loved them!

knowitallstrikesagain · 03/05/2012 08:56

You should definately be more concerned that your DH sits for ages on the loo in McDonalds on his iphone than the fact that McDonalds is advertised on a website which you want to use for free.

It really bothers me that people can't even take a shit now without checking whether they have missed anything. PUT THE BLOODY PHONE DOWN FOR 2 MINS!

I bet MNHQ are distraught that they didn't personally check with you first OP.

lol at dh dumping and dialling...

don't get the fuss, personally. mcdonalds isn't my favourite food (nor is it the kids' favourite) but sometimes, when you want to feed an entire brood for under a tenner there is nothing, NOTHING to beat it.

also, mcdonalds fans, did you know that adults can order junior meals and substitute a coffee for the drink? so you get a junior cheeseburger and chips a bag of fruit for about 20p.

plus, the brownies (think they're about a quid) are seriously amazing. we ask for a knife and cut one up like it's belgian truffle. you'd barf if you ate a whole one, i imagine.

PrincessScrumpy · 03/05/2012 08:58

Agree md is fine occasionally... not sure of the definition treat though..

MadameChinLegs · 03/05/2012 08:59

Hmm McDonalds don't drag people in off the streets do they? Or have I missed that campaign? People choose to go in or to avoid it. If you don't like their food, their service etc then just don't use it.

I'm sorry but nowhere on this site does it advertise McDonalds, so IU can't see what all the fuss is about. And even if there were adverts for it, just don't click on them if you are that bothered.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 03/05/2012 08:59

I went to McDonalds on Tuesday night.

I had a grilled chicken salad with balsamic vinegar dressing and it was lovely as was the half a hamburger and fries that I stole off the children and not completely unhealthy.

I wish we had a KFC nearer though.

GingerWrath · 03/05/2012 09:00

Aitch I always order a happy meal for myself as I have a smaller appetite, never had a problem!

Chandon · 03/05/2012 09:00

i don't have issues wit McD.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 09:01

oh god no keema, i once had one of those salads, it was disgusting... there was a guy sitting near us who actually came up to ask if it had tasted as revolting as it had looked... it had.

stick with the junior meal. Grin

eagerbeagle · 03/05/2012 09:02

Emergency McDonalds poo. Or as Mr Beagle calls it a McShit.

That is all.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 09:02

i don't have a smaller appetite, Ginger, that's generally me holding my place for something MORE ENORMOUS later on. Grin [malaysian curry]

MadameChinLegs · 03/05/2012 09:03

See i'm of the opinion that if you are going to do do, do it right: Quarter Pounder with cheese meal, large fries and full fat coke.

Once every couple of months isnt going to kill you. (unless that's literally all you eat)

cocolepew · 03/05/2012 09:05

I went to McDonalds everyday for 3 weeks when I had morning sickness. It was carb heaven.

TalHotBlond · 03/05/2012 09:06

I strongly support an association with McDonalds if it means we get free burgers. Grin

Get0rfMoiLand · 03/05/2012 09:06

Why aitch WHY did you have to tell me about the brownies? I always thought the brownies looked completely nondescript. Now I will had to try one Sad

I very rarely go to Mcds - I have been on a diet for 4 months but when I broke the diet and had a quarterpounder and fries it was like it was the most delicious thing I had eaten in my entire life.

Ithink possibly in the bad good old days MN regulars would have been UP IN ARMS at the thought of MN linking with MCds. But I (and it seems most of this thread) don't care.

Get0rfMoiLand · 03/05/2012 09:07

And that is VERY good news about the happy meal and a coffee. What a great idea.

I am going to avoid reading aitch's posts in future. Grin

DogEared · 03/05/2012 09:08

Aitch I could teach you to eat a whole brownie. Or five.

Get0rfMoiLand · 03/05/2012 09:08

I loathe their breakfasts though. How can they get something so wrong? Egg with cheese and muffin?

cocolepew · 03/05/2012 09:10

When I get a kids meal I always give my toy to a small child, then i look really nice.

But if it's a good one, then stuff the child, i'm keeping it.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 09:10

they are completely nondescript as brownies. but as a slab, yes, SLAB, of belgian chocolate truffle for a quid, my good friend... they are heavenly. plus it means the children don't ask for a mcflurry of any of that aereated shite.

EnjoyResponsibly · 03/05/2012 09:10

Well they sponsor our site, but we still get to slate them with impunity. Proper democracy Grin

I HEART McDonalds!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 03/05/2012 09:10

I really want a McDonalds now, they are ace for banishing morning sickness.

McChicken sandwich, fries and a strawberry shake...
