Mumsnet and McDonalds

tattychicken · 03/05/2012 08:13

DH popped into a Mcdonalds yesterday to (ahem) use the facilities. Did his usual trick of taking his iPhone with him, and later let me know that when he was connecting to the Internet, the free wifi for McDonalds users popped up 'in conjunction with Mumsnet'!!! The blurb on mumsnet still says they don't allow advertising from mcdonalds, but when we googled it, it turns out this ban was lifted last May, and 'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.

Oh and by the way, it's Thursday night.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 23:22

Daily fail will have immigration articles every other day or use the nationality of a person in the news usually to drum up hatred or despise of that person especially if they are on benifits.

FOXY NEWS will nearly evry day have a new story of impeding doom, economic collapse, China, North Korea has weapon x y or z or Iran x y z or Islamic nation has done x y z.

Guardian loves the articles demoniisng fast food rising sugar consumption yadda yadda But often forget that even in the 50's in the UK sugar was rationed. and the populatoin has doubled and has a mych higher disposable income.

All are examples of padding out news with things that are not really news

tattychicken · 03/05/2012 23:22

Ladybeagle you need to read the actual threads. Not your made up ones.

OP posts:
AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 23:23

because LBE demonstrated once and for all that she has me mixed up with someone else, pimp. btw nice posting there. Hmm absolutely bizarre. never seen anything like it on here in my life. Shock

LadyBeagleEyes · 03/05/2012 23:24

so, er, why are you on the thread, pimpmytunnel? why are you on here, trying to make other people get off it? if it's so, ya know.. pointless? what a fucking freak show... Hmm

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 23:30

Did anyone actually read Mrsheffley link to the dental story link which it turn out that the reason some children were loosing their milk teeth was not from sugary things but was because of "the mistaken belief that milk teeth should not be filed"many dentists are not bothering to fill Milk teeth because the thought they fall out anyway and didn't want to cause the discomfort. The article never mentions sugar or any other cause of caries.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 23:32

And the reason the poorest are worst hit is because they're are few dentist who set up a practice in the poor areas.

But as I wrote earlier lets actual facts get in the way of a good outrage :)

Oh yes a full moon

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 23:39

I never thought that actually providing genuine facts about McD's not being the devils semen would be so headbangingly bizarre. It's worse than going on the FOX NEWS chat and saying you think it would be a good idea to have guncontrol laws. :)

JustineMumsnet · 04/05/2012 00:35

@MrsHeffley

Yes I'd like to know which post was deleted,I'm totally bewildered.

Was it the one when I described my teaching experience which is no different to the newspaper article I linked to or a lot of research?

Kind of find it slightly upsetting that I've tried to be civil, polite and measured in my posts and have received some quite nasty, vitriolic, bullying insults but a post of mine (of which I can't for the life of me think could go against guidelines) gets deleted.

ConfusedThink it's time I went to bed.

MrsH - have checked and it was a post in which you said another poster was "deranged". Thus a personal attack.

How do you think that milk teeth get to the point of needing to be filled? Because of SUGAR, bad diet & bad oral hygiene. Teeth wouldn't need to be filled if there were no caries in them.

And I do not believe that it is the dentist deciding not to fill/treat the teeth, because no dentist I know (over 15yr of dental nursing experience) would leave any tooth untreated. I think, where ever he got his facts/figures from, they are not entirely correct. Perhaps interviewed parents are deciding not to tell the whole truth? Dentists can get struck off for leaving a child's teeth to get into that state. I for one take the article with a pinch of salt.

I am not sure if you are for or against that article, novack, so sorry if my point comes across as harsh/rude.

differentnameforthis · 04/05/2012 06:00

Actually, now having read on from when the link was posted, I have NO bloody idea what relevance the link has!

buggyRunner · 04/05/2012 08:40

Wow your still at it this morning- you can indulge in a sausage and egg mcmuffin and hash brown now... Mmm... Grin

McDonald's certainly brings out the worst in people! I have only just come across the thread and masses of posts have been deleted!

theodorakis · 04/05/2012 09:10

Have only read about half of the 700 replies and some good points on both sides. we eat McDonalds if we feel like it, couldn't give a shit what people think.
Anyway, regardless of the principles involved, that man is a steaming hypocritical snobby arse to use the McDonalds toilets, if he is so anti the company. Of course, the local organic lentil weaver cafe would have stopped him and told him not to be so fucking rude and buy a cup of tea or fuck off. Hate middle class fussing when laced with snobbery and hypocrisy.

AIBUqatada · 04/05/2012 09:11

I'm just amazed and the rudeness and anger people have displayed towards posters who criticize McD. I don't feel especially critical of McD because many other food producers are just as bad -- McD was one of the first purveyors of ultra-standardised highly branded junk, so it has an iconic-baddie status that equally culpable food providers escape. It does seem to me irrational to distain adverts for McD more than adverts for other rubbishy food that are also on MN, and when my children were small enough to want to, we went to McD from time to time.

But I'm utterly on the side of MrsHeffley et al on this thread, partly because their criticisms have been very reasonable, and reasonably put, but mostly because of the nasty posts from their detractors. I think this depressing thread has finally freed me of my Mumsnet addiction.
