Would you be upset if a mum said this about your baby?

Bumped in to a mum from ds1 old nursery today. Not seen her for about six months, maybe more.

We both had our dc2 about the same time.

Other mum looked at my ds2 and the first thing that came out of her mouth was.....

" wow, look at those ears!"

Now, ds2 ears stick out a little (pic on profile), but he's not a human dumbo. I just felt that she was rude and it upset me that she said it.

She didn't back track or make a joke of what she said-that was just what she meant.

Am I being too sensitive?

No you are not being sensitive I would be pissed off, how rude of her.

2shoes · 02/05/2012 21:58

yanbu
I nearly swung for my "friend " who commented that my pfb had a large herd"
some people should not be allowed to talk.

FuckedOfftotheFarSideofFuck · 02/05/2012 21:59

I think I'd be annoyed too but would probably cheer myself up with the knowledge that my DC was much cuter than her DC anyway!

It was a bit rude but I bet she feels bad now...probably a foot in mouth moment!

pointbreak · 02/05/2012 21:59

YADNBU She was being rude. And he is a wee cutie and as far as I can see had perfectly normal ears!

kay1980 · 02/05/2012 22:00

YANBU I would be upset too if someone said that to my dc. How rude!!

Eglu · 02/05/2012 22:00

I would be pretty annoyed. Sounds like she engaged her mouth before her brain.

Looked at pics and he is very cute. And his ears aren't that big.

LemonTurd · 02/05/2012 22:00

YANBU. Your DS is beautiful, as is your older boy! :)

SauvignonBlanche · 02/05/2012 22:01

Very rude!

FoofyShmooffer · 02/05/2012 22:01

Yes it was bloody rude !!!

I can understand you were taken aback by the sheer rudeness but this is one of those times where the simple and calm "did you mean that to sound so rude/personal?

Is she really thick? Socially Inept? Does she think you are closer than you are? Like jokey terms?

In fact actually a simple " you cheeky bitch" might've done it.

Winniepooh23 · 02/05/2012 22:01

YADNBU. You have two cuties. How rude.

iago · 02/05/2012 22:01

That comment was very rude.

purpleroses · 02/05/2012 22:02

That was more or less the first thing my dad said on seeing my newborn DD Confused

She's 8 now and they still stick out, but she's got no problem with it and doesn't seem to bother her at all when other kids point it out :)

Yes, I think it is rather rude to point it out, as an adult, though don't suppose she meant to upset you.

Moominsarescary · 02/05/2012 22:02

his ears look perfectly lovely to me, he's a real cutie

She was rude, I'd ignore her.

SherlockGnomes · 02/05/2012 22:02

YANBU.Your son is frickin grogeous btw, had a nosey at your profile and he is edible!

southeastastra · 02/05/2012 22:02

perhaps she thought they were cute? the pics are very cute

ENormaSnob · 02/05/2012 22:04

She was very very rude.

I would probably have retorted with something equally offensive about her appearance.

Firawla · 02/05/2012 22:05

his ears are cute!! just ignore her maybe she has no social skills and your baby is lovely so who cares what she said.
it does sound really rude but maybe she did not realise it came across that way

FashionEaster · 02/05/2012 22:05

[All rush to profile!]

He's very cute, woman clearly had empathy bypass and is possibly not that perceptive - bet she wouldn't like comment passed on her own dc

And Grin @ 2shoes - imagines small child in stetson with his own herd of cows or maybe wildebeest!

jezebelle · 02/05/2012 22:06

He's gorgeous, and yes she was very bloody rude, i used to get lots of 'look at the size of him' as ds2 is a big baby :) not so much now as his weight has slowed loads, but he's my gorgeous big baby, though i was often tempted to say' and look at the size of you' to some of them !!

pointythings · 02/05/2012 22:07

Sorry, WTAF? His ears look completely normal to me. YANBU.

GravyHadALumpyMashBaby · 02/05/2012 22:07

Firstly, he's delicious! Grin
Secondly, ignore, ignore She's either kicking herself now and embarrassed. Or rude, or just plain stupid.
Dont let it upset you. Like I said, delicious!

muddychipmunk · 02/05/2012 22:08

As soon as I saw your title, I sided with you...

Grin
BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 02/05/2012 22:08

I literally didn't know what to say.

I feel I should have defended my baby but I don't know how. I was literally gobsmacked. And now feel guilty for not retorting back at her.

Thanks for your kind comments though Smile
