Would you be upset if a mum said this about your baby?

Bumped in to a mum from ds1 old nursery today. Not seen her for about six months, maybe more.

We both had our dc2 about the same time.

Other mum looked at my ds2 and the first thing that came out of her mouth was.....

" wow, look at those ears!"

Now, ds2 ears stick out a little (pic on profile), but he's not a human dumbo. I just felt that she was rude and it upset me that she said it.

She didn't back track or make a joke of what she said-that was just what she meant.

Am I being too sensitive?

Some people are unbelievable. Your boys are gorgeous. She just sounds like a spiteful cow to me. Ignore.

essexgirl31 · 03/05/2012 07:00

Your DSs are gorgeous. There is nothing wrong with his ears.

Just after I had DS2 the midwife told me I should tape his ears back as they stick out. I didn't have the energy or mind power to respond at the time.

Mrsmuppethead · 03/05/2012 07:05

I'm afraid you have to ignore some people..often the mouth engages before the brain.

Debsbear · 03/05/2012 08:28

My DS2 was born with a birthmark on his face. I took him to the school (at 1 day old) to pick up my DS1 and another mum, who had NEVER spoken to me in her life came over and asked what was on his face. A friend turned round to her (seeing that I was upset by this) and said "She's painted a f pidgeon on it, what do you think?" Some people really need to engage their brains before opening their mouths. Don't let it upset you.

Psammead · 03/05/2012 09:07

Argh. Rude cow.

When we had a meet up with my ante-natal group, one of the women looked at DD, who was about 8 weeks old and dressed in beige dungarees and a pink teeshirt and said 'Oh, I thought you were having a girl'. I said that she was a girl and woman said 'but she looks just like a boy! Really badly!' and then proceeded to ask everyone else who entered the room if they thought my DD looked like a boy too, and how funny it was. Angry

So I told her that her baby looked like a troll, squirted her in the eyes with breastmilk and smothered her with Teddy. In my head.

Longdistance · 03/05/2012 09:22

Awwww, he's such a cutey :)
Yes, she was really insensitive, but think it was a foot in mouth moment.
Personally, I HATE ppl who point out ears, only from my experience, as my ears were big as a child, and really stuck out. I was bullied 4 this :( But, am glad in the knowledge that the bully is shovelling horse shit 4 a living ;)
I had 2 have plastic surgery as a result when I was 8. Was not a good time 4 me, but I'm over it now.And she looks like the back end of a bus Grin

F3rgie · 03/05/2012 09:57

My 'friend' told me that my son had a large head but it was normal as all black babies have large heads Shock she then went on to tell me that her DD was afraid of black people!

sue52 · 03/05/2012 11:17

Your baby is lovely. When DD1 was small someone said that it was a shame she had rather wonky teeth. DH replied that teeth were something that could be corrected unlike some people who have the misfortune to be born with an unfortunate personality,

SarahStratton · 03/05/2012 11:21

He really is a seriously gorgeous looking baby, and I don't often say that on here. When DD2 was 6 months old my DSis told me she looked like a chimpanzee.

I was good, I didn't hurt DSis, just gave her The Look.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 03/05/2012 11:33

I was told dd looked like Danny Devito she did tbh, it really upset me, she wasn't a very 'pretty' baby girl, but she was mine and i felt really defensive of her plain looks.

Your friend was very rude.

Hullygully · 03/05/2012 11:37

His looks look completely normal, especially for someone with no hair!

Just take no notice.

treadwarily · 03/05/2012 11:37

Nothing wrong with your son's ears, but a lot wrong with your friend's mouth. Maybe a brown paper bag would help.

I had a friend tell me my 2month old baby was "slow" because he hadn't rolled yet but her baby (a month older) had. Made me laugh actually, was so absurd.

AWomanCalledHorse · 03/05/2012 11:37

His ears are a little sticky out-y at the top, and I mean a little, not enough to make a comment about. Think she was just being a rude cah.

My DS looks like Chevy Chase when he cries...I still luff him though.

Decameron · 03/05/2012 11:38

She was so rude. Both your sons are gorgeous. My baby has a strawberry birthmark, we have had a few comments from strangers. I will have to remember the "Did you mean to be so rude?" retort next time!

nickelhasababy · 03/05/2012 11:40

YANBU!

what's wrong with his ears anyway?
DD's are bigger and more sticky-outy than that!

(he's well cute)

and she was rude

catgirl1976 · 03/05/2012 11:41

How rude! Your DS is just gorgeous (and has the same star sleepsuit as my DS so you have excellent taste :) )

Maybe she's jealous because your DCs are clearly beautiful

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/05/2012 11:43

Your friend is knobber.

I got told 'they cant be your children. They are too good looking'

Fecking cheek.

Not a stealth boast btw. I was genuinely pissed off. I know they are good look. I just wasnt ready to be told what a munter I was.

Get0rfMoiLand · 03/05/2012 11:47

I had 'your dd is beautiful. She looks nothing like you' Grin

SparkyTGD · 03/05/2012 11:47

He is very very cute,

Perhaps a 'foot in mouth' moment, I do those sometimes Blush

Rude, though.

TheSockPuppet · 03/05/2012 11:50

She was really rude! A friend said to me when DS was about the same age 'are you not going to get those pinned back?' there was nothing wrong with his ears Angry, some people are just bloody rude sometimes.

seeker · 03/05/2012 11:51

I still remember someone glancing any my red haired baby and saying "what lovely hair. You wouldn't want it yourself, of course- but it is lovely"

I remember it every time I see her, 16 years later!

SparkyTGD · 03/05/2012 11:51

My DP gets that about DS "he's very handsome...He looks nothing like you!"

stealth boast alert

My DS is nice looking and he looks like me Grin

when I was young and slim and didn't have grey 'highlights' Grin

Nothing at all wrong with your sons ears.
My DD was not attractive as a baby. She looked like Chairman Mao.
when my Dad met her for the first time, she was about 4 weeks old. He called her wingnuts because her ears stuck out so much.
Thankfully they moved backwards or just laying on them moved them closer to her head. He still occasionally calls her that. She just gives him a withering look.

GeekCool · 03/05/2012 12:00

Just dropping in OP to say he is adorable! The picture of him in his highchair is lovely Grin . YANBU to be annoyed at what she said, but don't let it affect you.
