yada yada yada. I've seen the debates on here on fresh over frozen. I get that. But who the rubbery-fuck buys tinned veg??

Was strolling around the Co-Op today and clocked a a shelf of tinned peas/carrots/potatos.

Who the fuck would eat tinned peas?? The colour is so very wrong. I can't begin to imagine what the texture is like

tinned pulses are acceptable
i can't eat the rest though.

NettoSuperstar · 28/04/2012 20:23

Tinned spinach?
What is that like?
I love spinach, raw and cooked, but I imagine tinned to be unbearably soggy.

catinboots · 28/04/2012 20:24

WELL FUCK ME SIDEWAYS.

I was being unreasonable. Tinned veg is the way forward.

I stand corrected. And excited about my tinned and curries veg

Tinned sweetcorn is lovely.

Tinned new potatoes are revolting, take me back to my childhood and it's not a good memory.

Tinned mushy peas are the business.

Our crap camping meals consist of tinned chicken in sauce with a tin of sweetcorn and packet couscous. Nothing would convince me to resort to tinned potatoes!

TheArmadillo · 28/04/2012 20:26

Tinned spinach needs a lot of draining - I wouldn't serve it as a side dish, but I chuck it in curries so doesn't taste any different from chucking it in from fresh (plus it doesn't matter if a little of the water is left behind).

catinboots · 28/04/2012 20:26

Well what the fuck about tinned stew? I saw that in the Co-Op too..

Could I pass it off as homemade to DH??

OP posts:
DinahMoHum · 28/04/2012 20:26

i buy them sometimes, definitely sweetcorn. Niblets ftw

TheArmadillo · 28/04/2012 20:27

you could only pass it off as homemade if you are a really bad cook with a salt fetish.

boringnickname · 28/04/2012 20:29

I am soooo not a food snob of any description - i give my DD fruitshoots and im partial to a Muckdonalds but tinned veg - no no no no no no NO!!!!

It brings back boakful memories of my mother's diabolical cooking.

Tinned minced beef, tinned carrots and tinned peas

Fuck, i feel sick just thinking about it - and she was one of those mothers that thinks parenting is judged on how much food your child eats Hmm

Saying that i do have tinned chick peas, but they dont count

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 28/04/2012 20:29

Tinned - tomatoes, beans, corn, potatoes (only used in quick curry), loved tinned baby carrots cold out of the tin, peas (mushy, marrowfat, processed)

Can't stand tinned mushrooms - bleurgh.

Can't stand frozen peas & carrots - bleurgh. Anything else is 'ok' if in a dish, but not served as a stand alone vegetable - though I suffer politely through them if at someone else's house, I do have manners!! :)

mamalovesmojitos · 28/04/2012 20:29

I've never heard of tinned potatoes or tomatoes. I buy tinned sweetcorn to pad out tuna sometimes.

Happypiglet · 28/04/2012 20:30

TBH cat tinned meat products are not great... Quite salty but mix them with tinned veg and IMHO they are quite palatable.... !!!!
And I love Sainsburys tinned new potatoes ....

boringnickname · 28/04/2012 20:30

oh yeah, tinned sweetcorn is nice

bitofcheese · 28/04/2012 20:30

i like some tinned veg & i don't care what judgey types think :)

mamalovesmojitos · 28/04/2012 20:30

Oops, Blush or tinned carrots! I have heard of tinned tomatoes. I use them a lot Grin. I think they are tinned fruit though.

TheArmadillo · 28/04/2012 20:30

you've never heard of tinned tomatoes Confused seriously?

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 28/04/2012 20:30

catinboots - how jolly reasonable of you Grin

boringnickname · 28/04/2012 20:31

you have never heard of tinned tomatos? really??

TheArmadillo · 28/04/2012 20:31

x-post Grin that makes more sense.

I stocked up on tinned fruit today - I forget how cheap it is compared to fresh.

boringnickname · 28/04/2012 20:31

Tinned fruit? lol that reminds me of del boy serving up mandarins and evaporarted milkd at his posh dinner party :)

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 28/04/2012 20:32

Tinned fruit is lovely.... I love tinned peaches, tinned pineapple, fruit cocktail with those dodgy cherries....after 'one pot stew' as described earlier we always have tinned fruit salad with cold carton custard....!
(PS I can cook too!!!)

DartsAgain · 28/04/2012 20:34

I use tinned tomatoes, perfect for pasta sauces, etc.

Tinned sweetcorn sometimes (the creamed stuff) and tinned beans, eg red kidney beans, butter beans, borlotti beans, etc, as they're about as good as buying and soaking dried beans, but much quicker to use.

catinboots · 28/04/2012 20:35

Where do we stand on pies that need to be opened with a tin-opener??

Yep. I've seen them too. For real. In the same Co-Op..............
