yada yada yada. I've seen the debates on here on fresh over frozen. I get that. But who the rubbery-fuck buys tinned veg??

Was strolling around the Co-Op today and clocked a a shelf of tinned peas/carrots/potatos.

Who the fuck would eat tinned peas?? The colour is so very wrong. I can't begin to imagine what the texture is like

I buy tinned sweetcorn, and used to buy mushy peas, but now I've made my own I won't go back.

I have tinned beans in stock, but also dried, it depends what I'm making, and if I have time as to what I use.

tethersend · 28/04/2012 20:09

Tinned sweetcorn good- tinned anything else bad.

Although tinned potatoes deep fried are amazing...

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 28/04/2012 20:10

I empty the whole tin into stews and casseroles - carrots, peas, sweet corn, mushrooms and tomatoes - juice and everything, tis lovely

mistressploppy · 28/04/2012 20:10

God bless the chick pea

Squeegle · 28/04/2012 20:10

what are you thinking of - you must be missing out with sweetcorn! tinned sweetcorn is the best.

Apparently tinned potatoes v good in a slow cooker - havent' tried out yet. I also buy tinned kidney beans with chilli, does this count? Have never bought tinned peas (yuk) or mushy peas (double yuk)

EverythingsNotRosie · 28/04/2012 20:10

I buy tinned fruit for myself and DD to have in yoghurt, we like berries but fresh are so expensive. But veg, apart from sweetcorn, no, unless we are going camping!

Kladdkaka · 28/04/2012 20:11

Tinned potatoes are lovely in a potato salad with sliced onion, garlic and mayo. We also buy them when we go camping.

And I'm very partial to a tinned mushroom. Dunno why, something about the texture. They're yummy. As are tinned baby sweetcorn.

Oh and tinned spinach is an essential ingredient of chicken saag.

Softlysoftly · 28/04/2012 20:11

Me! Dd loves tinned carrots, dh likes the peas straight from the can and I find the new potatoes and tomatoes easy for chucking in pasta/curries etc. I am a bit rubbish at sticking to meal plans so find I waste a lot of fresh, I use frozen onions and peppers and spinach for the same reason!

Meglet · 28/04/2012 20:11

Tinned potatoes are good in salads. Hearty winter salad with nice cheese, greens, bread, toms, bread and dressing in minutes.

Tinned sweetcorn for lasagne.

Birdsgottafly · 28/04/2012 20:11

The only peas that my chldren will eat are tinned Marrowfat.

I don't understand why people are bothered about tinned/frozen/prepared veg, tbh.

It all counts towards 'five a day'.

MariahScary · 28/04/2012 20:12

tinned sweetcorn, tomatoes, chickpeas are Ok and are regulars in our house.

I went to a friend's house for Sunday roast once when I was a kid and they served tinned carrots, peas and new potatoes. I was nearly sick.

ThatsYouThatIs · 28/04/2012 20:12

I buy tinned sweetcorn and mushy peas. Frozen sweetcorn isn't as nice as tinned. I like the idea of using tinned potatoes in a curry so I'll probably be buying some of them soon to try it out Grin

DressDownFriday · 28/04/2012 20:12

I buy tinned peas and green beans to add to mince when doing it in gravy (delicious with mash).

Tinned sweetcorn for salads.

Not really keen on other tinned veg.

RedRosie · 28/04/2012 20:12

It's for when the Zombies come.

I can't believe no-one has said this!

:-)

catinboots · 28/04/2012 20:13

I agree. Tinned sweetcorn/tomatoes/chickpeas etc are all good tinned. But they are ingredients in their own right.

But peas???

DinosaurRoar · 28/04/2012 20:14

I buy green giant tinned corn. For convienance, it lasts longer and tastes nice.

Never tried the potatoes, carrots or peas though...they don't look appetising...

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 28/04/2012 20:16

I love tinned veg. Tinned sweetcorn, carrots and peas are proper comfort food.

Also, anyone in the know, knows that tinned potatoes make the best crispy chips / fritters ever.

CherryCheesecake · 28/04/2012 20:16

I love tinned peas (garden), sweetcorn and new potatoes Grin

TheSameButDifferent · 28/04/2012 20:17

ooh I wonder if you can make bombay pots with those lovely sainsbury's tinned new potatoes. This thread has inspired me to go and buy tinned mushy peas.

MaureenMLove · 28/04/2012 20:17

Nowt wrong with tinned veg. We always have carrots, peas, sweetcorn and beans in the cupboard.

Great for bunging in a shepherds pie or a stew.

Happypiglet · 28/04/2012 20:19

See for camping I make 'one pot stew' which is a tin of mince (I know I will get foamed!) a tin of new potatoes and tins of carrots and peas all heated up in one giant saucepan. Can feed five for about £2.50! Tis delicious...so much so that my kids think it is a massive treat when I make it at home because I have run out of fresh stuff

notnowImreading · 28/04/2012 20:20

Tinned ratatouille makes a nice pasta bake

TheArmadillo · 28/04/2012 20:20

I use tinned spinach, sweetcorn, tomatoes, beans of various varieties.

I have used mushrooms before which are fine stirred into baked beans, but that's more cos no one else in this house will eat mushrooms and also mushy peas which again I like and no one else does. But wouldn't buy them on a regular basis.

I hate tinned new potatoes - used to be fed them as a child

Happypiglet · 28/04/2012 20:20

flamed

MaureenMLove · 28/04/2012 20:21

OH, I don't know, I rather like foamed! PMSL! Grin
