Or is it because BBT is now and Friends was then? IYKWIM.

I've already hidden relationships but feminism is worth hanging on to just ignore the odd loon.

The thread about Ross being an abuser was in AIBU and I linked it above with a reference to Showy's second post.

Mrsjay · 08/04/2012 21:02

oh ok i was a bit Confused

CaptainKirk · 08/04/2012 21:04

I'm really surprised at all the Brits that find this show funny. The humour is very American with lots of cultural references that I have to explain to my wife. I'm an ex-American so I get it.

HJisoffwork · 08/04/2012 21:05

Yes vicar go to customise you can hide most of MN

ThatVikRinA22 · 08/04/2012 21:06

customising coming up....

mrsjay - not this thread! this has been light relief!

Mrsjay · 08/04/2012 21:07

I think the humour translates really well , MY husband doesnt find it funny in the least he just doesnt get it at all ,

Sparklingbrook · 08/04/2012 21:07

I don't really notice that many specifically American references (though maybe having lived a couple of years in the US helps). You really do have to know your Trek, but that's universal, and surely its a bit hard for anyone without a PhD in a STEM subject (ok, maybe a masters would do) Wink

Mrsjay · 08/04/2012 21:07

thats ok vicar i probably wasnt reading properly Smile

CaptainKirk · 08/04/2012 21:09

Yeah, I have to explain most of the sci-fi and science jokes to my wife too. She is SOOOO not a geek.

CaptainKirk · 08/04/2012 21:11

Oh, I should also say that I always thought "Friends" was rubbish. I only watched it to see Jennifer Aniston's nipples poking through her shirt (as they did every single episode).

Mrsjay · 08/04/2012 21:16

explaining the geeky stuff is different to it being too american though , I sometimes have to ask my 14 yr old the batman references as i am a bit eh what , she enlightens me

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 08/04/2012 21:20

I love The Big Bang Theory, obviously Wink. I've watched every season so far and often pop on the repeats on E4 if there's nothing else on. Sheldon gets the best lines but I also love Raj and Howard's relationship, they're like an old married couple Grin. I hated Priya though and I'm glad she's gone - she was just too controlling over lovely Leonard I have a total crush on Johnny Galecki .

glenthebattleostrich · 08/04/2012 21:25

BBT is one of the best comedies ever, Friends is just not.

and I have a little bit of a crush on Raj

ThatVikRinA22 · 08/04/2012 21:28

i love the relationship between howard and raj....this weeks where he let him take the plastic cover off his new phone made me chuckle....

and i love that sheldon has found someone just like him in amy....i just love it!

warmandwooly · 08/04/2012 21:43

TBBT rules. I can relate to it far more than I could with Friends. I would like to see the day when people ask for a Howard haircut in the same way that the Rachel haircut was popular.

my2centsis · 08/04/2012 22:39

Yabu I wouldn't sit and watch repeats of bbt like I have with friends

IloveJudgeJudy · 08/04/2012 23:02

YANBU. Our whole family sits together and watches BBT, individually and together. It's one of the best DVD box sets we've got. We are a bit of a geeky Star Trek/Star Wars/sci fi loving family (most of us, anyway).

It's been great to find a series that we all enjoy watching. If I'm feeling a bit down, a watch of an episode or two really helps up my mood.

FreudianSlipper · 08/04/2012 23:12

yes it is much much funnier :)

though that is not hard, Friends you have seen one episode you have seen them all so unorginal and dull (and too much screaming)

CelstialNavigation · 08/04/2012 23:14

I don't think anything in Friends could match Amy Farrah Fowler dressed as a pretzel.

Innerdaemon · 08/04/2012 23:16

YABU. Nothing beats Friends, NOTHING!

MNHubbie · 08/04/2012 23:34

YANBU! We knew of the series for a while but have only started watching it from the beginning a few weeks back. It is brilliant and disturbing (I'm on the spectrum and our eldest is too (a little bit) while DS2 is Aspergers) as we keep being reminded of our own... oddities.

I adore that the science and comic references are all spot on too.

May I respectfully add a couple of other series into the mix that beat Friends too?

How I met you mother (which we started watching at the same time as BBT)
and
Boston Legal (the Lion in Winter meets Ally McBeal. The greatest lawyer in the world (played by William Shatner showing he can actually act when required to) is slowly losing his mind and while other abandon him his friendship to the morally ambiguous Alan Shore keeps him going. Hilarious and heart breaking at times).

Skillbo · 08/04/2012 23:46

I am quite open with dh about my Howard crush - agree it could be the voice but he does get some cracking lines!

In rl, he's just had a baby (well, his wife has) and raj has just got married to a former miss India...

Whatmeworry · 08/04/2012 23:50

BBT definitely - but then I am a science geek....
