Yes to great female characters. I was actually a bit dubious about BBT at the start as it seemed to be all clever geeky men and one pretty 'airhead' blonde woman, almost stopped watching for that reason. But I've been proved very very wrong as it's gone on, one of the thing I love is how the characters are not the usual stereotypes.

I'm thinking Friends = Nethuns, BBT = MN

They are each a product of their time but one thing that differs significantly is that the female characters on Friends lost development and got flatter while the female characters on BBT have really grown and become much rounder and more realistic.

I do love Friends but after having my eyes opened to the Ross subtext I think BBT is much cleverer, wittier and hasn't yet plateaued like Friends did.

I adore Bernadette turning into Howard's mother. Very clever and yet so, so obvious
