Or is it because BBT is now and Friends was then? IYKWIM.

The other thing that annoyed me was the one where Sheldon was obsessing about graphene... that really was a ballpit of total balls Grin

Sparklingbrook · 08/04/2012 18:32

I am ok with Star Trek but Dr Who just leaves me cold. Sad

Sheldon is supposed to be asexual, however, Jim Sheldon is openly gay.

My dh has his own spot on the couch. He also has a green lantern t shirt, which he wears over a long sleeved t shirt.
He has AS, too.
I'm married to Sheldon!

I loved Friends, and BBT now.

Dh has a Bazinga! teeshirt and DD has a soft kitty one Grin

HJisoffwork · 08/04/2012 19:43

Dh has the rock paper scissors lizard Spock one.

Schnitzle · 08/04/2012 19:56

I like both, but I'd compare Friends more to How I Met Your Mother.

:o

TBBT feels different.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 08/04/2012 20:09

Can anyone link to the thread that pulls apart friends from a feminist view point? Grin (mentioned earlier!)

HJisoffwork · 08/04/2012 20:13

There's a few dissecting different tv programmes. Think they are in feminism.

Hebiegebies · 08/04/2012 20:18

Just had a chat with dh about this, he thinks it's because the relationship between Leonard and Penny is more gripping than between Ross and Rachel!

I have to agree, BBT wins

twolittlemonkeys · 08/04/2012 20:18

Hmmm, I'm going to sit firmly on the fence.

I loved Friends. Had all the boxsets on DVD, watched them over and over. They got me through maternity leave and many many hours when I was parked on the sofa BFing one of my DC. However, a couple of years ago, in an urge to clear some clutter I decided I'd seen them too many times and sold them at a carboot, £25 for the complete set. I slightly regret it now.

However BBT is my new favourite. I love it. It really resonates with me as I married a nerd, and my DS1 is a mini Sheldon. He says exactly the same sort of things, is socially awkward in the same ways, doesn't understand his peers because he's too blimmin intelligent for his own good etc... (He does have Aspergers Syndrome). BBT makes me laugh out loud, even when I'm on my own. BBT also seems more realistic to me. As much as it entertained me, the Friends set-up just seemed highly unlikely.

On second thoughts, I'm not on the fence - I prefer BBT - I never was, and never will be one of the popular, pretty people. I can relate to BBT far more easily Grin

Mrsjay · 08/04/2012 20:19

I wonder if the racist thing is to do with raj and his accent ? it is very indian maybe thats why somebody thought it was racist , I fail to see why though as raj is indian from india Grin

I do have visions of Howards mother as wearing her hair rollers and a very large lady , Blush

Mrsjay · 08/04/2012 20:21

aww i wish i could link but cant , but i did like when sheldon hugged penny for getting him his leonard nimmoy napkin it was very sweet and i had a huge lump in my throat ,

twolittlemonkeys · 08/04/2012 20:23

Luegi good point about HIMYM. I love that too. Probably more than Friends. Hmmmm.... good job I don't have to choose eh? I can just watch them all and enjoy!

cocolepew I just bought DH a Bazinga t-shirt. He loves it. I want a rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock one though...

Kayano · 08/04/2012 20:24

I used this thread as inspiration and sang soft ktty to my baby to get her to sleep!

Worked amazingly well!

I don't like either. But i don't loath everything BBT stands for and represents as i do friends. I particularly hate speaking about something real and someone comparing it to friends. Or someone saying 'that's so pheobe'.

Since when was vacuousness interesting or watching privileged peoples imaginary angst funny. So infuriating. Actual grown ups actually watching it - words fail me.

thefurryone · 08/04/2012 20:34

Friends was good and very of its time. I enjoyed it and it got me through many a hangover because it was just so easy to watch. I always hated Ross though and could never understand why Rachel continued to go back for more, unlike most of the audience I was shouting 'stay on the plane during the final episode'. I love that MN was able to articulate why I felt this way Grin

BBT is great, very entertaining and I like that not everyone in it is Holywood perfect.

Agree that a better like for like comparison is HIMYM, which was very funny when it started but has now really gone down hill.

hormonesnomore · 08/04/2012 20:53

Oh, the Leonard Nimoy DNA episode is my very favourite - Jim Parsons is such a good comedy actor. But then David Schwimmer is too.

Imho TBBT is better than Friends and resonates with me as my ex has AS and is so like Sheldon (helps me to see the lighter side).

I love AFF - thanks for the link Sparkling - I haven't seen that one before, it's hilarious [bugrin]

ThatVikRinA22 · 08/04/2012 20:54

there are posters or poster dissecting AS as well. The ignorant appear to think that those with the condition equate to abusers and even rapists.

thank god for the hide thread button. can you hide whole topics? if so relationships is going along with the feminist section.

Mrsjay · 08/04/2012 20:59

I dont see what your mean about people d taking apart people with AS negativleyHmm nobody has mentioned anything about abuse , Im very confused ,

on a lighter note thanks for the link sparkling it is very sweet ,

fuzzpig · 08/04/2012 21:00

Mrsjay I think vicar means another thread, on the relationships section, not this one
