I keep putting classic 80s films on only to find out that she's never seen them! [bushock]

Today's film is the karate kid, a masterpiece and essential viewing for anyone of my generation. It's so good that they remade it for this generation to enjoy!

DW has also missed out on the gremlins films! They're brilliant, but she was tragically deprived of them for multiple Christmases [busad]

I think her parents acted cruelly and have denied her her heritage as a child of the 80s.

Sorry cave must have missed that one.

CheshireDing · 08/04/2012 05:19

My DH has never seen The Goonies, as he is 35 I do always wonder how it is possible to have NEVER seen it. It used to be on every Christmas.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 08/04/2012 07:31

I heard that they're going to make a goonies sequel, sort of 'son of goonies' thing! Not sure whether to be happy or not [buconfused]

frilly! Big! How could I forget! I spent about 2 years looking for that machine at fairs!

[buconfused]

I watched "Charlie and the chocolate factory" with DD1 (7) yesterday, she was well impressed! Especially with the look of the 70's computer! She went to bed singing "umpa lumpa" (sp.?) Grin
Can't wait to inflict the rest of the films on her.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 08/04/2012 07:38

Is big the one with tom hanks playing the giant piano?

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 08/04/2012 07:44

[bugrin] at your dd! The original Charlie is the best, jonny depp freaked me out in the remake.

Yep that's big! Fantastic film! I still love it now.

CaveMum · 08/04/2012 07:47

That's the one, LeMous

Other great Tom Hanks films from the 80s:

The Burbs (DH loves this film)
Dragnet (with the equally fab Dan Ackroyd)

Da da da da!

readyforthehills · 08/04/2012 08:01

readyforthehills · 08/04/2012 08:09

readyforthehills · 08/04/2012 08:10

If you want scary go watch the dark crystal...

CaveMum · 08/04/2012 08:20

Or Legend. That horned-monster/devil thing used to freak me out!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 08/04/2012 08:39

Oh! I loved the dark crystal!
and legend.

Can't watch anything scary with DD1 though (or if the mum dies or abandons her child)....

JosieZ · 08/04/2012 09:19

Labyrinth, Willow, Time Bandits, ET, the one with the little robot that developed feelings, forgotten the name. Gremlins too was great, there wre many movies that parents could watch and enjoy too.

(haven't read thread - too long now)

Thumbbunny · 08/04/2012 09:24

DS (4) loves the Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth, and Willow (1988 so another 80s classic!).

He also likes a film I remember watching in my childhood (much older than 80s then!) called Jack the Giant Killer. Barely available in the UK; I had to get a German/English version of it on DVD - of course it's terribly old fashioned now (1962) but he still watches it with glee! Just Googled it to get the year and see that a new version is being made, due out in 2013 - no reference to the older film though so probably completely different.

JosieZ · 08/04/2012 09:26

Of course the big change in the 80s was that videos came along.
We got a second hand one passed on to us in early 80s (I think) so any videos that the kids owned were watched and watched so we remember them all in detail.

JosieZ · 08/04/2012 09:28

The friendly robot film was Short Circuit.

Good movie (if you are under 10).

Chocamochalatte · 08/04/2012 09:29

How about Cocktail??

My three favourite films of the 80's, Dirty Dancing, Top Gun and Cocktail. [bugrin]

Happy Easter!

AnnieLobeseder · 08/04/2012 09:38

Glad to see Willow finally got a mention.

But I can't believe no one has mentioned Pump Up the Volume or Running on Empty yet. Mmmmmmmm, Riven Phoenix (we were crushed when he died) and Christian Slater (before he went weird and plastic surgeried himself beyond recognition)

CaveMum · 08/04/2012 17:16

Big is on Film4 right now [bugrin]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/04/2012 17:27

I've never seen at least 90% of these (teenager in the 80s).

Never seen

Any James Bond
Any Star Wars apart from the first one
Dirty Dancing
ET
Breakfast Club
Dirty Dancing
The Goonies
Ghostbusters
Lost Boys
The breakfast club
Stand by me
The goonies
Mannequin
Pretty in pink
Some kind of wonderful
Electric Dreams
The karate kid
Gremlins
Any Arnie or Stallone films
Ferris Bueller

Have never seen most Disney cartoons either, luckily the DCs are just as uninterested in films as me, DH buys them, they stay on the shelf gathering dust.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 08/04/2012 20:24

What? I missed big! Curse you dd for needing bath and bedtime! [busad]
