I keep putting classic 80s films on only to find out that she's never seen them! [bushock]

Today's film is the karate kid, a masterpiece and essential viewing for anyone of my generation. It's so good that they remade it for this generation to enjoy!

DW has also missed out on the gremlins films! They're brilliant, but she was tragically deprived of them for multiple Christmases [busad]

I think her parents acted cruelly and have denied her her heritage as a child of the 80s.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 06/04/2012 22:05

Aw- you are taking me back now!

I am making it my mission in life to ensure that my dc are exposed to all the crap 80s films I love(d). So far, I have made them watch The Karate Kid, all the Star Wars films and Raiders of The Lost Ark- oh, and ET (where Dd1 sobbed like a baby and was traumatised and I felt a little bit bad Blush)

When they get to their teens I will force them to watch The Breakfast Club et al. But hey- by that time they will probably have a "remake" version out...

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 22:14

Yeah, I'm not keen on the whole remake thing. Especially if it involves the words Michael, Bay, transformers... [busad]

I'm just amazed that no one haS mentioned Girls Just want to have fun!

I have always thought it so apt that the stars of two of the greatest 80s teen movies ended up together...

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 22:17

Indiana Jones formed a huge part of my life. I wanted to be him. And Batman. At the same time.

Holy that belongs in a museum Batman!

I have seen most of the films mentioned, however my hubby gives me shard time for never watching tv series in 80's such as I have never seen, The A Team, The Littlest Hobo, Knightrider, you name I managed to miss most 80's tv series!

manicbmc · 06/04/2012 22:24

Thanks to my impeccable taste, we have most of these fine 80s films on dvd to enjoy. Apart from ET, which is the biggest pile of crap, ever.

I first saw it as there was a whole school trip to the local fleapit. It was appalling and I laughed at all the silly girls crying and making their mascara run. Hmm Grin

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 22:28

I used to have the littlest hobo theme song as my ringtone! Altogether now!

There's a voice that keeps on calling me...

Joolyjoolyjoo · 06/04/2012 22:43

And another one -Top Gun! None of the youngsters at my work have ever seen Top Gun!

eleanorwish · 06/04/2012 22:48

I used to love Battlestar Galactica the original series, I wasn't too keen on Buck Rogers. V terrified me, as did Salem's Lot (although I think that was late 70's)

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 22:49

You can be my wingman anytime!

That's right- I AM dangerous!

EmmaCate · 06/04/2012 22:57

On a recent Million Pound Drop the players did not know the film in which Darth reveals he's Luke's Dad. They lost all their money on the next question, which witnessed me saying 'Well I have no sympathy. They've never watched Star Wars.'

But Karate Kid? I'd focus on Ghostbusters for umbridge.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 23:06

The karate kid was on tv tonight, hence the focus. Don't knock it tho!
But yeah, Ghostbusters was great wasn't it. We used to run around with big sticks shouting "don't cross the streams!" [bugrin]

Here - you've forgotten the most important - The Princess Bride Grin

eleanorwish · 06/04/2012 23:09

BTW the Lost Boys was the best vampire film ever made. Who can forget Death by Stereo?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 06/04/2012 23:10

Don't worry, pigeon, my dc have that on DVD and watch it regularly Grin

(you killed my father. Prepare to die)

eleanorwish · 06/04/2012 23:11

and I know they're not kid's films, but what about Terminator, and Conan the Barbarian? Classics.

littlesue · 06/04/2012 23:14

This takes me back decades...showing my age now.

Seen everything - Star Wars, Star Trek (my brothers choice as had to share a TV), James Bond, Top Gun, Indiana Jones, Karate Kid (recent remake was shit - did no one tell the producer that Karate is Japanese and Jackie Chan is Chinese and with it set in China it was most likely Kung Fu), Breakfast Club (huge Simple Minds fan), ET, Goonies, Ghostbusters, Wonder Woman, Bionic Woman etc, etc.

The theme tune to Little Hobo is coming back to me now...

manicbmc · 06/04/2012 23:15

Princess Bride is pure brilliance. Grin

peeriebear · 06/04/2012 23:18

I like to screech "inconceivable!!" at the DDs whenever Wallace Shawn voices a character eg Rex in Toy Story :) I'm sure they will smother me in my sleep one day, he gets about a bit.
I never saw Star Wars as a kid, I first saw them at college.

PigeonPie · 06/04/2012 23:18

Joolyjoolyjoo - how old were your DC when they first saw it? I think mine need to see it, but they're only 6 and 4 and I'm not sure they'd get the full brilliance of it yet.

manicbmc · 06/04/2012 23:20

Peerie, you can get t shirts!

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 23:20

eleanor films for grownups are allowed. Otherwise we couldn't celebrate the montage!

eleanorwish · 06/04/2012 23:24

What about Rocky? And First Blood - the first and best Rambo film. Is it me or were the soundtracks of the films better too? 'The Eye of the Tiger'!
