I keep putting classic 80s films on only to find out that she's never seen them! [bushock]

Today's film is the karate kid, a masterpiece and essential viewing for anyone of my generation. It's so good that they remade it for this generation to enjoy!

DW has also missed out on the gremlins films! They're brilliant, but she was tragically deprived of them for multiple Christmases [busad]

I think her parents acted cruelly and have denied her her heritage as a child of the 80s.

Stupid auto correct!

whackamole · 07/04/2012 12:04

Jesus H - 7 pages of a thread about 80s films and no one mentions Back to the Future??!!

Travesty!

(PS - I remember Mac and Me! I preferred it to ET which I never liked)

I LOVE 80s films, Terminator, Indiana Jones, the aforementioned BTTF esp.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 07/04/2012 12:54

For the record, I did mention back to the future wacka a bit surprised that it hadn't come up earlier though Wink

I havn't seen many of the Disney films that people consider to be a 'normal' part of growing up.

My parents just didn't have the money to spend on videos and even if they did get them I probably would've been far too busy roaming the neighbourhood with my friends on our bikes to watch them.

BalloonTwister · 07/04/2012 13:37

I can't believe nobody's mentioned The Outsiders!

Patrick Swayze
Rob Lowe
Emilio Estevez
Matt Dillon
Tom Cruise
Ralph Macchio
C Thomas Howell

The original brat pack film surely?

ilikecandyandrunning · 07/04/2012 14:00

I LOVE jumpin jack flash!
And of course back to the future

Who remembers Daryl?!

SarahStrattonsEasterName · 07/04/2012 14:01

The Black Stallion. I must have seen it 7 or 8 times at the cinema.

ilikecandyandrunning · 07/04/2012 14:03

Crocodile Dundee! How have we forgotten that!

WishingRLwouldFuckOff · 07/04/2012 15:44

See I haven't seen rocky or rambo films. i was told by a meer child (18yo) this was a travesty. I have however seen most of the other films just not jaws or other horror films I think there are a number lurking in my dvd collection ready for me to inflict them on ds when he has the patience to sit still longer then a flee.

whackamole · 07/04/2012 15:44

Sorry LeMous didn't notice!

I've never seen The Sound of Music either. I don't like musicals.

justtryingtodomybest · 07/04/2012 17:26

What about Teenwolf?!

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 07/04/2012 18:33

Teen wolef [bugrin] rocks! Sorry for abandoning the 80s love in, I've relocated for the week and have no WiFi and a crappy data signal [busad]

Not sure if they've been mentioned, but what about the Eddie Murphy (when he was good Wink) fest that is Beverly Hills Cop (all of them) and Coming to America!

I watched BHC recently and i was Shock at the amount of swearing! I couldn't believe they used to show it on Saturday afternoons, edited of course!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 07/04/2012 19:18

no! not eddie murphy! or crocodile dundy!

toutpuissant · 07/04/2012 19:30

I finally saw all the Star Wars movies over the past month or so. It was great! I got to watch 25 years worth of movie making, or whatever it is, over the space of three weekends. Now working on the Harry Potter series, except after last night's episode my kids have announced that it's too scary and they won't watch anymore until they are older. Spoil sports.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 07/04/2012 19:37

Back to the future - fab
Doc Hollywood - good
Star Wars - seen all 6
No-one has mentioned coming to america, big, beverley hills cop all great films from the 80's. Three men and a baby (little lady), flashdance, where also fab. Never ending story was one of my favs with Labyrinth and flight of the navigator. We used to get videos to rent every weekend and I vividly remember the Airplane! and Naked gun films. One of the best 80's films for me has to be Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!

Did anyone ever see The Adventures of Baron Munchausen? Wierd but good!
For all the film geeks have a lool here there is a full list of 80's films.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 07/04/2012 19:37

lool look

keepingupwiththejoneses · 07/04/2012 19:38

I heard a while ago they are making a new ghostbusters!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 07/04/2012 19:47

Sorry "Three men and a baby" is a very crap remake of an excellent french movie: "3 hommes et un couffin" there is no comparison. But I wasn't going to bore you with all the great french movies made in the 80s Wink.

I did see "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" not as good as the book (the book is weird so good rendering).

Nobody mention "In the name of the rose" almost as good as the book this time!

will lool Grin at the list to refresh my memory! thanks keep the easter bunny as to keep awake [bugrin]

CaveMum · 07/04/2012 19:49

Ahem, keeping: have a look at my post of 19.07 this evening Wink

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 07/04/2012 20:03

The fly!

Silverado!

The never ending story!

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 07/04/2012 20:30

War games! Thank you for the reminder! I can't listen to people using throat mics without my brain saying "would you like to play a game?"

I had forgotten half of these films until reading this thread. Was that film Jewel of the Nile?

DH wants me to watch the Lost Boys with him. I hated that film the first time so have been resisting.

Neverending Story was on TV recently, DD was watching it. She asked me why he didn't use his mobile when he was being chased by the bullies [bugrin]

FrillyMilly · 07/04/2012 21:58

Even if you couldn't afford videos they were on tv a lot. Labyrinth used to terrify me though!!!

Can't believe no one has mentioned:
Beaches
Big
Splash

Or any of the classic horror films like nightmare on elm street, Friday the 13th, childs play.
