I keep putting classic 80s films on only to find out that she's never seen them! [bushock]

Today's film is the karate kid, a masterpiece and essential viewing for anyone of my generation. It's so good that they remade it for this generation to enjoy!

DW has also missed out on the gremlins films! They're brilliant, but she was tragically deprived of them for multiple Christmases [busad]

I think her parents acted cruelly and have denied her her heritage as a child of the 80s.

I had never seen short circuit Blush

Chubfuddler · 06/04/2012 21:20

wax on, wax off. Ffs.

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 06/04/2012 21:20

The thing is, if you watch these films now, they're shit. Honestly. I watched all the big 80s teeny ones as an adult - St Elmos fire, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller, Lost Boys. Yawnsome, to the last one. Didn't make it through any of them.

But equally shite 80s movies I saw in context (when I was young and fruity) I still love. Particularly the really bad ones Dirty Dancing.

Casmama · 06/04/2012 21:21

How can anyone not have seen the Karate Kid? It was on the tv (when we only had 4 channels) every second fucking week from the eighties until they did the remake!

Chubfuddler · 06/04/2012 21:21

They aren't shit. Really can't agree there.

bronze · 06/04/2012 21:22

Sue explains what I was trying to say much better. Agree completely

kickassangel · 06/04/2012 21:22

What's the goonies?

bronze · 06/04/2012 21:22

Casmama because we didn't have a tv in the 80s

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 21:22

See! The 80s was great! You could say shit in a kids film and no one thought it would mess us up and turn us into fucking foul mouthed wankers Wink

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 06/04/2012 21:22

Well unless you saw them for the first time as a 30 something Chubb, I wouldn't expect you to agree. That was my point.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 06/04/2012 21:22

DH tells me he has never seen The Wizard of Oz. Never. Now I know that's not an 80's film but it's been on TV every Christmas since before either of us were born. How can he have never seen it?

He has, however, seen something called BMX Bandits and insists it is the definitive film of the 80's/90's (I didn't really pay attention). I have never seen it.

Ghostbusters is the finest film ever made, although Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club are also very good.

HalfPastWine · 06/04/2012 21:23

[bushock] at AgentZigZag

The 80s was shite, that makes films from the 80s shite as well.

Go and wash your mouth out young lady!

Chubfuddler · 06/04/2012 21:23

You said if you watch them now they're shit. They're not.

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 06/04/2012 21:25

When I said 'now', I meant as an adult.

bronze · 06/04/2012 21:25

Chub if you see them now for the first time they are shit. I agree I also love dirty dancing as saw it as a child, all the ones I never saw til recently are shit

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 21:26

My thread, my rule is final.

80s films were and are awesome. Except lost boys. That was and still is dire.

I was born in 1985 and have never seen
*Dirty Dancing
*Pretty Woman (DHs actual secret favourite film)
*Gremlins
*Any Star Wars
*Love boat
*Jaws
*Bambi
*Karate Kid
*Muppets
*Ghostbuster
*Goonies
*Bigfoot and The Hendersons
*ET
and a bunch of other ones. dH and his family are aghast at this. My answer is that I was always playing out. I didn't watch movies, really, so missed them all.

FashionEaster · 06/04/2012 21:27

oops Blush

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 06/04/2012 21:28

Bigfoot and the Hendersons Grin. Actually, I've not seen that. Or Love Boat.

Jaws, though. How did you manage that? Not even the nur-nur, nur-nur bits?

LST · 06/04/2012 21:29

I've seen them all and I'm a 90's child Grin

Chubfuddler · 06/04/2012 21:29

You're just envious of Jason patric op.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 06/04/2012 21:29

Has anyone seen 'Mac and me'? Twas a low budget ripoff of ET that seemed to be funded by McDonald's. Soooo much product placement!

AgentZigzag · 06/04/2012 21:30

Grin at HalfPast.

Look, the 80s made me wear pedal pushers and a ra-ra skirt.

Although I suppose they could be balanced out by my ownership of fingerless gloves and luminous socks, which were the dogs.

I was at secondary school from 82-87, so that might colour my feelings on the decade Grin

Duckypoohs · 06/04/2012 21:31

How can you say the lost boys is dire
