To think slippers are for old people?

I am 47. When I was younger no-one wore slippers once they were no longer kids. Suddenly in the last 5 years all my friends have slippers. Some of them even bring them when they visit friends so as be "more comfortable". FFS thats what my gran did when she is in her 70's and 80's!

Both DP and I are united on this. Slippers are for old people. We are not old and so thus will NOT have slippers.

So AIBU

(And I am being serious. Both DP and I do think this).

I need to wear slippers otherwise I can end up with chilblains, even in the summer. Pesky feet!

Have taken to wearing slippers and thermal socks this year, toasty warm.

TotemPole · 20/03/2012 17:55

lesley, yes, 5 lovely pairs.Grin

Jins · 20/03/2012 17:56

Being comfortable isn't an excuse.

One of the signs of aging is looking at a pair of shoes and saying "Oh they look comfortable"

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 17:56

"My name is shew and i admit to using a tartan rug when feeling desperate"

GrimmaTheNome · 20/03/2012 18:03

Slippers are for people who get cold feet. So:

1)Old people
2) people who have cold floors
3) people with poor circulation

I don't wear slippers all the time but need them in the kitchen. Silly big 'yeti feet' ones which stay on my feet when I have to run up and down stairs.

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 18:10

Actually I've come to the conclusion that I'm the old one who hasn't moved with the times. Slippers are now trendy. I'm stuck in the past and IABU.

I'll go and make dinner and think about what slippers I must rush out and buy before I am totally past it.

It hurts to realise that I am old before my time!

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 18:11

I think you must be right Shew Blush. The slippers from Fat Face didn't look TOO bad.

I HATE slippers and dressing gowns. Both are slovenly if worn after 8am! I like going bare foot in the house.

CurrySpice · 20/03/2012 18:14

I also have slippers but would never wear them when DP comes round.

Sexy they ain't!!

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 18:14

No indeed not lesley.

CurrySpice · 20/03/2012 18:15

Jins, if it makes you feel better I still have on my 5" spike heels in the house now. Done the school and brownie runs in them and will keep them on as I have parents' eveneing later

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 18:18

I'm amazed at how many people feel uncomfortable in their shoes! Why don't you all buy a pair that fit?

Op Yanbu!

garlicbutter · 20/03/2012 18:22

YANBU, Lesley.. I got my first slippers at age 55 and live in them now. Before that, however, I was buying loads of shoes that are basically trainers, only made of leather and office-acceptable. It all started with a pair of 4" heels that I wore non-stop, but were too tight on one foot and gave me CORNS [aaaghhh].

Corns + lousy circulation -> comfy footwear :(

I guess the Ugg generation will be spared the corns, at least.

CurrySpice · 20/03/2012 18:29

Sorry! Blush

garlicbutter · 20/03/2012 18:32

Oh, last Xmas, somebody gave me one of those fake fur half-cape things that old ladies like. I wear it when I'm chilly Blush

TuesdayNightClub · 20/03/2012 19:03

I wear slippers all the time (once to work, oops) including all summer. I have at least ten pairs and choose depending upon the occasion, outfit and weather.

I also have numerous blankets and a slammer that I turn round the wrong way and wear like a cape with sleeves. Amazing.

I'm in my 20s and have always been like this!

TuesdayNightClub · 20/03/2012 19:04

A slammer? I mean a slanket

mythical · 20/03/2012 19:05

i absolutely love my slippers, i even found a pair of suede mocassins i wore for work during pregnancy - they just looked like boat shoes. i do prefer slipper boots! i'm 22

BellaVita · 20/03/2012 19:14

I wear slippers!

I hate walking around cold floors in bare feet.

Although, I have a new carpet in my sitting room so I leave my slippers outside the sitting room door Hmm

Do I look like an old lady ?

ElizabethDarcy · 20/03/2012 19:17

Slippers are fab... I have 3 pairs... funky and gorgeous looking... I am much younger than you.... YABVVVVU ;)

ZuzuBailey · 20/03/2012 19:32

Our local council offers these

I'm not at that stage yet. I like my warm furry bunion-hiding ones.

echt · 20/03/2012 19:38

In warm weather I wear a pair of slip on Dr Marten's which are no lover good enough to wear out of doors. In the winter Uggs and fluffy socks, also never to be worn out of doors.

Bunbaker · 20/03/2012 19:48

I have always worn slippers. I get cold feet if I don't. I find shoes far too uncomfortable and "formal" to wear in the house. I can't relax in outdoor shoes.
